2 Geography Paper 1 Preparation Independent organisation Folders to be handed in for monitoring by 12 th September Create a Paper 1 Geography Folder with 4 main sections 1. Tectonics 2. Coasts 3. Water 4. Energy Within each section you need these sub-sections 1. PLC 2. Notes 3. Exam questions Tectonics Task 1: Research and revision Glossary to be handed in, by 12 th September With reference to Enquiry question 1.1 and 1.2 create a key word glossary with definitions for all subject specific terminology. Internet research is crucial for this task but do not cut and paste. Ensure you understand all key terms. (2 hours minimum) Task 2: Research and extended writing Answer (average of 1 page) to be handed in and assessed against levelled mark scheme, by 12 th September Describe the characteristics and explain the causes of tsunamis (10) (2 hours minimum research plus 30 minutes writing time)

Geological characteristics - Permeable/ impermeable, resistance Task 2: Interpret and extended writing - Answer (average of 1 page) to be handed in by 12 th September Describe the physical and human features of the coast shown in the photograph. 4 AS Geography Summer Transition Work 2016 You will be studying Edexcel 9GEO, this is a new specification which will be assessed after two years through 3 exam papers and one piece of coursework. Your summer work focuses on Paper 1. Paper 1 Written examination: 2 hours and 15 minutes 30% of the qualification Tectonic Processes and Hazards Coastal Landscapes and Change The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security examination includes 12-mark and 20-mark extended writing questions. Calculators may be used. Paper 2 Written examination: 2 hours and 15 minutes 30% of the qualification Globalisation Regenerating Places Superpowers Global Development and Connections examination includes 12-mark and 20-mark extended writing questions. Calculators may be used. Paper 3 Written examination: 2 hours and 15 minutes 20% of the qualification The synoptic investigation will be based on a geographical issue within a place-based context that links to the three synoptic themes and is rooted in two or more of the compulsory content areas. An externally-assessed written examination comprising three sections. A resource booklet will contain information about the geographical issue. examination includes 8-mark, 18-mark and 24-mark extended writing questions. Calculators may be used. Paper 4 Coursework: Independent Investigation Non-examined assessment 20% of the qualification The student defines a question or issue for investigation, relating to the compulsory or optional content. The topic may relate to any aspect of geography contained within the specification The student s investigation will incorporate fieldwork data (collected individually or as part of a group) and own research and/or secondary data The investigation report is internally assessed and externally moderated. The student will produce a written report of words.
