1 Earth Science Earth Science explores Earth s structure, interacting systems, and place in the universe. The course covers concepts and processes found in: Astronomy Earth s place in and interaction with space Geology physical structure and dynamic processes Meteorology atmosphere, weather and climate Oceanography oceans and marine life All OWA courses are semester courses, with a.5 credit value. Earth Science has a part A and part B section (Unit 7 indicates the beginning of part B) when both sections are successfully completed, 1.0 credit is awarded. Any questions should be directed to OWA Registrar: Grading Scale A % A % A % B % B % B % C % C % C % D % D % D % F % Assignment Weighting per Unit With Projects Lessons: 15% Quizzes: 25% Projects: 30% Tests: 30% Assignment Weighting per Unit Without Projects Lessons: 21% Quizzes: 36% Tests: 43% Course Requirements 1. Keep up with your daily lesson plan. If you fall a day behind, work extra hard to catch up the next day. 2. Use this syllabus as a resource to keep track of when you will have quizzes, projects, or tests. Several projects will require that you do research, so you may want to allow time to visit a library or search the Internet. 3. You must pass the 80% threshold for each lesson before you can go on to the next lesson. If you are stuck, you may send a message to your teacher or call to talk to a Science teacher. 1

2 Resources Academy Support Glossary and Credits If you need help you may send a message to your teacher using the messaging system or call to speak with a teacher on the phone. Each unit contains a Glossary and Credits section with important formulas and definitions. This is a useful section to read and study.
