5 DONAN TONI ANDREW CYRUS Block 16/8c Relinquishment Report 1 Introduction The UK block 16/8c is located in the southern part of the northern North Sea, in the South Viking Graben. The Initial Term was four years with a drill-or-drop decision after 2 years, i.e. 1 st April 9. The block is held by the time of relinquishment by Bayerngas Europe Limited after a company takeover effective by 2 nd September 9. The block contains an undeveloped oil and gas accumulation, discovered by well 16/8c-13, drilled by Marathon Oil in The well, although untested, encountered oil in at least two intervals in the Upper Jurassic sands that are equivalent in age to the reservoir interval for the adjacent /Miller/Kingfisher complex. The agreed work programme included the acquisition of km 2 new 3D seismic data and was designed to evaluate the extent of the suspended 16/8c-13 discovery, and, in addition, to identify potential at Upper Jurassic levels. The new data was integrated with older seismic and processed Multi Azimuth to maximize data quality. Prior to 1 st April 9 the Licencee had to commit to drilling one well to Top Sleipner (c m TVDSS) or relinquish the licence. An extension until the 30 th November was granted from DECC in April 9. 1 Introduction Page 1

6 2 Synopsis The UK authorities define the work programme for Traditional Licences (PL Block 16/8c) as a drill-or-drop consisting of two parts. Part one has to be fulfilled on or before the second anniversary of the Initial Term. The licence will then cease unless the licencees decide to continue with part two of the work programme, which has to be completed on or before expiry of the Initial Term, being a period of four years after the official date of award, i.e. for PL st April Since the mapped structures are not considered to be commercially attractive, Bayerngas Europe Limited decided to relinquish Licence PL 1470 (Block 16/8c) at the end of an eight months extension period. 2 Synopsis Page 2

7 3 Exploration Activities 3.1 Seismic acquisition The firm commitment of shooting km 2 of seismic data and to obtain and reprocess 300km 2 of seismic data to Pre Stack Time Migration has been carried out during part I of the licence. Seismic field data has been obtained for the /Miller 1985 vintage 3D and the BP Miller 1993 vintage 3D and all 3 data sets has been combined to one Multi-Azimuth (MAZ) processed data set. 3.2 Well(s) drilled No wells have been drilled on Block 16/8c during the Initial Term by the Licence. 3.3 Studies carried out A paleogeographic study of the Upper Jurassic depositional system in the greater /Kingfisher region was performed to predict the presence and quality of reservoir sands in the prospect area. The study was supported by in house and external special studies integrating elements like biostratigraphy, core view, comparison to field examples, petrophysics etc. A regional biostratigraphic analysis was performed to understand time correlation between the wells in the greater 16/8c area. The MAZ data has undergone several post stack data improvements for noise cancellation and spectral whitening. The data has also been spectrally decomposed and test of seismic inversion has been carried out. 3 Exploration Activities Page 3

8 Block 16/8c Relinquishment Report 4 Prospectivity Analysis The prospectivity has been evaluated using the MAZ data. Resulting from the evaluation one prospect mapped in addition to a more detailed mapping of the 16/8c-13 discovery (Fig. 4.1). Both structures are at Upper Jurassic level. Block 16/8c Relinquishment Report 4.1 Moby Discovery The Moby Discovery is located around the 16/8c-13 well northeast of the Kingfisher Field. 4.1.1 Trap type The Moby Discovery is a three-way dip closure with a fault seal on the western side.

9 Block 16/8c Relinquishment Report 4.1 Moby Discovery The Moby Discovery is located around the 16/8c-13 well northeast of the Kingfisher Field Trap type The Moby Discovery is a three-way dip closure with a fault seal on the western side. The structure represents a tilted fault block on the hanging wall side of a major north-south trending extensional fault (Fig. 4.2). The sealing potential of the fault is considered a minor risk as the structure proved hydrocarbons in the 16/8c-13 well. The Chance of Success for the Moby Discovery is therefore considered to be %. 4.2 Flipper Prospect The Flipper Prospect is located south of the Moby Discovery and east of the Kingfisher Field Trap type The Flipper Prospect is a four-way dip closure describing a pop-up feature on the footwall of a tilted fault block (Fig. 4.3). 11 4.2.2 Reservoir The reservoir interval consists of Upper Jurassic Formation turbidite lobes fringes, which are considered to be of lesser reservoir quality than that of the Moby Discovery as the Flipper Prospect is situated at a more distal position of the turbidite lobe system and on the northern tip of a paleohigh Source The Upper Jurassic Kimmeridge Clay Fm. is the most likely source rock for the Flipper Prospect Seal The caprock consist of shales from the Upper Jurassic Kimmeridge Clay Fm Chance of Success The Prospect Chance of Success is expected to be 40 %. 12 5 Reserves Summary Based on the re-evaluation of the licence the recoverable reserves for the Moby Discovery and Flipper Prospect are 4.9 and 2.2 MMBOE respectively.
