8 3 Work Programme Summary Nexen Petroleum U.K. Ltd and partners have fully completed the license work programme: The Licensee shall obtain 210 km² of 3D seismic data. This commitment was fulfilled through the acquisition of 500 km² of the PGS 2011 Geostreamer data. Seismic: Maps of the interpreted 3D seismic data (Section 10) define the prospect geometry. The PGS 2011 Geostreamer seismic data has improved resolution which shows higher frequency data in the shallower section and contains more low frequency data than previous seismic datasets. Multiples appear to have been attenuated more effectively in this dataset. Near, mid and far angle stacks are also available to aid interpretation of possible AVO response related to hydrocarbon presence. Wells: No wells were drilled within the licence area. February

10 5 Prospectivity Update Blocks 9/5b and 10/1b are located in the Central Viking Graben approximately 170 km East of the Shetland Isles. Brief summary of prospectivity presented in original licence application: Palaeogene Play - Horace Prospect: The reservoir is considered to be Upper Palaeocene age sandstones, as proven in well 9/5a-3, with a structural trapping configuration. Well 9/5a-3 also identified a Lower Eocene shale sequence that acts as a top seal for the prospect. Charge is considered proven in the area by the Nuggets and Frigg gas accumulations and by oil shows in well 9/5a-3. - Socrates Prospect: The Socrates Prospect is within the basinward extension of the Upper Palaeocene channel system tested by the 9/5a-3 well. The trapping mechanism is a stratigraphic structure at P50 with the upside case reliant on separation from both the feeder channel (Horace Prospect) and the adjacent Frigg fan. Charge is considered proven in the area by the Nuggets and Frigg gas accumulations and by oil shows in well 9/5a-3. Upper Jurassic Play - Styx Prospect: The Styx prospect is defined as a large structural closure on the BCU depth map with a Volgian / Kimmeridgian turbidite sand reservoir. The prospect has a potential upside with a stratigraphic component. Mid - Lower Jurassic Play - Hugin Prospect: The Hugin prospect targets Brent / Dunlin shoreface sands of Mid - Lower Jurassic age within a combination trap. February

11 Review of prospectivity from completion of the Work Programme: Nexen Petroleum U.K. Ltd, as operator of the licence, has reviewed the prospectivity in the P.1762 licence area. Risking& remaining prospectivity No amplitude response observed over the interpreted prospect, which in most Eocene discoveries in the region is a key indicator for hydrocarbon presence. Charge and containment are perceived to be the main risks with migration modelling suggesting the Horace Prospect would be charged first and in the event of stratigraphic trapping, the seal may be breached against the larger fan to the southeast. No amplitude response. Reservoir presence and containment are considered the main risks. Imaging of the reservoir was poor and well penetrations are limited. Faulting across structure increases containment risk with a large gas accumulation overlying the Frigg Field suggesting a breached seal. Potential HPHT reservoir section. 14 8 Conclusions On the basis of the post-award assessment, the prospectivity potential falls below this organisations commercial threshold. Following discussions with the Joint Venture, Nexen Petroleum U.K. Limited and partners agreed to relinquish the P.1762 license at the end of the Initial Term. February
