2 CECW-EG DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Washington, D,C EP Pamphlet No March 1994 Engineering and Design COOPERATION WITH STATE GEOLOGICAL SURVEYS 1. Purpose. The purpose of this pamphlet is to encourage U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) cooperation and coordination with State Geological Surveys. 2. AD~licabili~. This pamphlet applies to HQUSACE/OCE elements, major subordinate commands, districts, laboratories, and field operating activities. 3. Reference. EM , Geotechnical Investigations 4. Background. The Liaison Committee of the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) met with USACE officials at HQUSACE on 15 September Members of the AASG met with HQUSACE persomel again on 29 November The purpose of the meetings was to review and update the potential for cooperation and coordination between USACE tid State Geological Surveys. Of special interest were opportunities for cooperativelyfinded projects where state surveys could provide basic geologic and topographic information to USACE project offices. 5. Discussion. All USACE offices should be cognizant of the location, points of contact, and resources of State Geological Surveys in USACE project areas. In accordance with the guidance contained in EM , Geotechnical Investigations, every effort should be made to utilize the resources of these State Geological Surveys. 6. Points of Contact for State Geological Survev Offices. Appendix A provides a list of State Geological Surveys (or equivalent offices) for the 50 states and Puerto Rico.
