3 Geospatial Big Data Geospatial Data has always been Big Data Big Data Analytics for geospatial data is available to allow users to analyze massive volumes of geospatial data ESA/ESRIN "Big Data from Space" event addressed challenges posed by policies for dissemination, data search, sharing, transfer, mining, analysis, fusion and visualization The European EarthServer project provides access to 100+ terabytes of multi-source, multi-dimensional spatiotemporal data using standards from and W3C to provide "Big Earth Data Analytics GEO/GEOSS
4 Geospatial Big Data The next flood of Big Data comes from mobile devices. Human as a sensor Mobile and static sensors Social sensors GIS moves into the cloud Bring processing to the data We download the earth too many times Accessing the Cloud using Services WPS WCPS - WCS Big processing of streaming spatial data
5 Geospatial Big Data Web processing Services The Web Processing Service (WPS) Interface Standard provides rules for standardizing how inputs and outputs (requests and responses) for geospatial processing services. The standard also defines how a client can request the execution of a process, and how the output from the process is handled. The data required by the WPS can be delivered across a network or they can be available at the server. TerraDue used WPS to develop a Cloud Service that allows the dynamic deployment of algorithms on a Hadoop framework EC imarine FP7
6 Standards are like parachutes they work best when they're open. Mary McRae, OASIS
