More study is required to show definitively that domestic harvesting will not degrade marten habitat prior to any consideration of allowing domestic harvest within areas identified as critical habitat. Maternal den sites are protected from disturbance under the Endangered Species Act. NOTE: Critical Habitat and Core Areas for Marten may have harvesting restrictions in the future regardless of silviculture treatments in the area Silviculture can occur in all areas; however treatments must be outside of critical periods for caribou (calving/post-calving) in the core areas.
