7 What IGAC Does Activities The IGAC community identifies issues in fundamental and sustainability research that require synthesis and integration of research across disciplines and/or geographical boundaries and facilitates their implementation. National/Regional Working Groups IGAC sponsors national/regional working groups that aim to facilitate the coordination of research both within the nation/region and between the nation/region and the international atmospheric chemistry community. Events IGAC co-sponsors small, focused meetings, workshops, and conferences that kick-start new directions in atmospheric chemistry research or support planning, data analysis/synthesis, or assessments related to current IGAC Activities or IGAC s Vision. IGAC also holds a biennial open science conference that is the primary mechanism for dissemination of scientific information across the IGAC community. Communications/Networking This covers a myriad of activities including a newsletter (mailed to over 3,000 researchers around the world), webpage, and miscellaneous networking activities conducted throughout the year.

17 IGAC s Response to Future Earth Recognizing the linkages and benefits of both disciplinary and multi-disciplinary aspects of this challenge. Seeking to nurture and evolve fundamental science to address the duality of disciplinary and multi-disciplinary work. Underpinning scientific research on the impacts of changing atmospheric composition (e.g. climate, air quality) for evidencebased policy within a global sustainability framework. Acknowledging a need for national/international funding and organizational structures that accelerate the development of a multi-disciplinary approach. Accepting the need for IGAC to evolve within a new structure.
