6 1 8 / 1 0 / M A N A A K I W H E N U A L A N D C A R E R E S E A R C H 6 The 4 functions of IPBES IPBES was established with four agreed functions: Assessment Deliver global, regional, methodological and thematic assessments on biodiversity and ecosystem services Policy support tools Capacity building Knowledge generation - Identify policy relevant tools/methodologies, - facilitate their use, and catalyse their further development Identify and meeting priority capacity needs of IPBES members, experts, stakeholders Identify and communicate gaps in knowledge

It involves analysing, synthesising and critically judging available information. Confidence terms are assigned to key messages (Executive summaries and summary for policy makers)
