1 CLASS VI SOCIAL STUDIES MONTH CHAPTER LEARNING OBJECTIVES LIFE SKILLS ACTIVITY AND ASSIGNMENTS Apr-May Ch-1 The Planet Earth and the Solar System To recall students about planets, satellite & other celestial bodies. Scientific & Critical -Prepare solar system in your notebook tabular representation of the planets with the number of satellites,rings rotation and revolution period etc. Prepare a diagram of the various phases of the Moon Ch 8- Studying the past -To enable how history changes over time -How is torrents divided history into two parts - archaeological source material and literary sources that tells us about history Prepare a collage on history around us. Ch 21-Our community life :unity in diversity -To enable how different parts of community are interlinked and interdependence -To know the community life its advantages and problems arising in the society and their solution Prepare a diagram showing the states with their popular dances and locate the states on the map also. Ch 2 - Representation of the earth -the movement of the earth - history and representation of the map -various components of the map Scientific and analytical diagram of the conventional symbols diagram of
2 directions along with their Cardinal Points July Ch 3- Locating places on the earth - the difference between the longitude and latitude -accessing Standard Time and longitude role in our life -heat zones of the earth -How to locate the places with the help of logitudes and latitudes scientific analytical diagram of heat zones of the earth - With the help of an Atlas find five countries: 1-through which the equator passes 2-which lie in the tropical zone but not on the equator 3- which lie in the temperate zone Ch 9-Life of early man - three main phases of stone age -Making students aware how early man lived and developed himself -Prepare model of the tools of the stone age Ch 10 - Development of Civilization -Development of human being in various fields with the help of Civilization -Indus valley civilization or the Harappan culture Map and Critical -Make a chart showing different aspects of the life of Neolithic man Ch 22-Democracy and -To enable how democracy prevails in the society -goals of the democracy - people's participation during election procedure -different levels of the & model of different levels of the Aug Ch 4-The motions of the earth -the difference between rotation and revolution - important terms like day,night,dusk, Dawn caused due to rotation of the Scientific diagram of the revolution of the earth -experiment showing the

Ch 11-The Iron Age civilization -To make the children aware about the new metal and its uses -To make the children understand about various achievements of vedic age Collect more information about Iron Age. Read the stories of Mahabharata and Ramayana to know more about the vedic Ch 12-Janapadas and mahajanapadas -Janapadas and mahajanapadas that existed around 600 BCE in India - important rulers like bimbisara, ajatshatru and their administration -How Magadha became a successful Empire map -Make a list of crafts which were in practice during the period of the Mughal rulers and are still being practiced in India Ch 13 -The Mauryan dynasty To initiate understanding about the great Mauryans & their administration - collect the pictures of all the 5 types of architectural monuments and classify them under the heads- 1. palaces 2. Stupas 3. caves 4. pillar 5. rock edicts - prepare a flowchart of varnas and ashrams Sept revision term 1 Oct Ch 5-The realms of the earth - the different realms of the earth like lithosphere Map Scientific -Shade and label different continents as

To collect the pictures showing the places of worship of various religions and name their religious scriptures. Dec Ch 7 -India: the land of monsoon climate -the natural vegetation and wildlife -the Seasons of India -how forest and wildlife can be conserved Awareness skill -Discussion about the seasons and their effects on the daily life. Ch 17-The era of Harsha To identify great accomplishment of ruler of ancient period and their generosity (special reference of Harsha) ability Map work- Extent of Harsha s empire,prayag, Pataliputra, Nalanda, Tampralipti, Thanesar Collect more information about Magha mela at Prayag and the pictures related Jan Ch 19-India and the outside world India's contact with the West,Central Asia, Sri Lanka South-east Asia, and China - List any 10 special features of Indian culture
