3 1 Purpose These bluesign criteria define requirements for bluesign approved articles and chemical products for industrial use which are placed on the market. The communication of bluesign trademarks and rights of use are described in the Communication Guidelines and the bilateral trademark agreements and are not subject of this document. 2 Scope of bluesign approved trademark The trademark bluesign approved in terms of this document applies to chemical products for industrial use in the textile and leather industry and related industries (e.g. accessory manufacturing) textile articles for industrial use at all processing levels (man-made fibers, yarns, raw fabrics, dyed, finished, coated fabrics etc.) finished leather articles for industrial use accessories Definitions.1 Chemical product A commercial product which can be a chemical substance or a mixture..2 A company that places under own trade name chemical products such as auxiliaries, dyestuffs and other chemical products for production of textiles, leather and accessories on the market. A chemical supplier may be a manufacturer, a formulator or a rebrander of chemical products. A producer of chemical products who directly uses the produced chemicals for down-stream processing of articles will also fall under the category chemical supplier.. Rebrander A company that purchases chemical products from a chemical supplier and distributes them under own brand name.. A company that produces textile articles (all processing levels) leather and accessories.. A company selling textile articles (all processing levels), finished leather articles and accessories for use in textile and leather industry that are sourced from a sub-supplier. A converter does not have any installed chemical or physical finishing steps. Original products are sold without any change with exception of make-up/packaging bluesign criteria for bluesign approved articles and chemical products for industrial use v2.0 April 01, 201
4 Requirements for chemical suppliers, manufacturers and converters.1 A chemical supplier must follow the bluesign criteria for production sites Annex: be a bluesign system partner with the right to use the bluesign approved trademark have successfully applied for homologation of chemical products.2 A manufacturer must follow the bluesign criteria for production sites and related annex documents be a bluesign system partner with the right to use the bluesign approved trademark have successfully applied for certification of articles. A converter must Follow the bluesign criteria for converters be a bluesign system partner with the right to use the bluesign approved trademark have successfully applied for registration of articles Requirements for chemical products and articles.1 Chemical products A bluesign approved chemical product must comply with the bluesign criteria for chemical assessment (Homologation) be rated blue or grey be registered in the bluesign bluefinder.2 Articles A bluesign approved article must be conform to the chemicals management requirements (compare bluesign criteria for production sites Supplement: Chemicals management for manufacturer) comply with the BSSL consumer safety limits be registered in the bluesign blueguide bluesign criteria for bluesign approved articles and chemical products for industrial use v2.0 April 01, 201
5 6 System integrity s, manufacturers and converters are regularly audited, with re-audits/re-screenings carried out no later than every three years. If non-conformity is detected or if the relevant organizational and technical procedures change significantly, a follow-up inspection may be necessary. bluesign technologies reserves the right to test sample chemical products and articles. A bluesign system partner is required to support these tests with information and reference samples. 7 Validity This document comes into effect from April 01, 201. This document is subject to changes.
