Trial Running of GFAS International Flood Network Please access to:
What is GFAS? Global Flood Alert System (GFAS) provides with global rainfall information based on the realtime product by Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) and disseminates alert information on heavy rainfall to specific basins which may bring flood. Global rainfall information by day Realtime product by TRMM
Which data is used? The real time 24 hours precipitation is obtained from the Website of TRMM, which is a joint mission between National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of USA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) designed to monitor and study tropical rainfall.
Visit IFNet homepage first Click here!
GFAS starts (1 day rainfall) Latest 1 day rainfall in the world is displayed on the initial page When scrolling, you can see
Estimated precipitation of probability You can see estimated precipitation of probability in 5 year return period (default). You can change the return period to 10 years by selecting from the pulldown menu here. (And then, click Display button.
Display 3 days rainfall You can select 1 day or 3 days for the duration of rainfall. Then, click here for display.
3 days rainfall in the world
1 day rainfall in the world You can select one area for display from 9 areas provided in advance. Then, click here (behind the menu) for display.
Provided areas
Area: Europe and North Africa Rainfall Estimated precipitation of probability
Area: Middle East
Area: Southern Africa
Area: South Asia
Area: East Asia
Area: Southeast Asia
Area: North and Central America
Area: South America
Area: Oceania
Rainfall in the past You can select the date, and see the same information from 10 days before. Then, click here (behind the menu) for display.
Heavy Rain Information After downloading real time precipitation data once a day, GFAS compares real time precipitation to estimated precipitation of probability in each grid in 5 years or 10 years of return period. If real time precipitation is over estimated precipitation of probability even in one of the grids within a registered river basin, the system disseminates heavy rain information (flood alert) by for a meteorological or disaster management organization registered beforehand. To see the information, click here.
Heavy Rain Information If heavy rainfall information was confirmed in a registered basin, the box for the basin is filled in yellow or red. This table is only a sample.
Download of digital data You can download the digital data of 1 day precipitation of the date currently displayed with a map. To download the data, click here.
Download of digital data Click here to start download. The file is archived in.zip format. When extracted it, you can find digit data with comma.
For detailed information You can get the detailed information by clicking here.
