WHAT HAVE WE DONE? Selection of tree species. Decision was pinus sylvestris. Autumn We exchanged e- mail addresses with our colleagues in Croatia. Autumn 2011: We contacted Climatology Department in Norway to get historic information about precipitation and temperature. Autumn 2011: We tested our equipments. Winter 2012: We sent a letter to our collaboration partners in Croatia. Our pupils wrote about themselves and added some pictures.
WHAT HAVE WE DONE? Spring 2012: Our pupils got six samples of trees. Sanded the samples, to get the rings sharp. We counted the rings and found the birth of the tree. We compared the sample and the historic climatology information. We made two graphs in excel (skeleton plot), one for the early season and one for late season.
PICTURES Trym is paying close attention while Ståle drills out the tree core. A tree core being extracted from the drill.
PICTURES Six tree cores have been collected. A tree core has been glued to the mould and sanded. This tree dates back to 1965.
PICTURES Benjamin is measuring the height of his tree. Two students are measuring the circumference of a tree.
SKELETON PLOT Year
Autumn 2012 We are planning the trip to Karlovac october. The students have written a project report. The students have made a presentation for our visit in Karlovac. Visited our friends in Karlovac. Delivered our samples to Andreas.
CHALLENGES Missing data from the Climatology Department in Norway. We had to use information from other weather stations. Consuming much time, specially making the reports.
Croatia (1. oct. 5. oct. 2012) In front of the school

Zagreb
2013 Got a feedback from Andreas about our samples. Some of our samples were good Andreas could not make any crossdating of our trees, so he did not expect any clear climate signal. Maybe some of our trees react on temperatur and others on precipitation. Age of our trees.
Autum 2013 We have started on a new school. Secondary school here at Dalen. Our Croatian friends visited us in Høydalsmo yesterday.
17. September 2013 visit from Croatia All our pupils together with our croatian friends.

Mladen tries to get the fish out of the net. He suceeded.
Eidsborg stave church. From the 13th. Century. Built of pine.
Rui. With view to Dalen and the lake, Bandak.
Conclusion Interesting project. Learned how to work as a scientist. Maybe we should have collected more samples. Got new friends from another country. Fantastic trip to Croatia. Hope to stay in touch with our Croatian friends.
