rxiv:mth/ v1 [mth.ds] Aug 006 Anlysis of D chotic system Gheorghe Tign, Dumitru Opriş Astrct A D nonliner chotic system, clled the T system, is nlyzed in this pper. Horseshoe chos is investigted vi the heteroclinic Shilnikov method constructing heteroclinic connections etween the sddle equilirium points of the system. Prtilly numericl computtions re crried out to support the nlyticl results. 1 Introduction One of the first exmples of continuous dynmicl system of dimension three, whose numericl simultions disply the property of sensitivity to initil conditions, is the Lorenz system [5]: ẋ = y x), ẏ = cx y xz, ż = z +xy, 1) where,, c re positive rel prmeters. Physicl reliztion of the Lorenz system is the Ryleigh- Benrd experiment. The system ws derived from the hydrodynmicl Nvier-Stokes equtions to crete dynmicl model for meteorology. Trying to trnsform the Lorenz system from stle stte to chotic one concept known s nticontrol of chos or chotifiction, [4] ), Chen in [] introduces D polynomil system of type Lorenz) known s the Chen system. Vnecek nd Celikovsky in [19], chrcterize generlized Lorenz system y condition on its liner prt mtrix J = ij ): 1 1 > 0. Lü in [6] oserves tht while the clssicl Lorenz system elongs to this clss, the Chen system stisfies dul condition 1 1 < 0, systems tht stisfy such condition re clled dul systems to the Lorenz system) nd introduces new system tht ridges the gp etween the Chen system nd Lorenz system, stisfying 1 1 = 0. A nonliner system rising from nucler spin genertor nd compred with the Lorenz system is studied in [1]. Nonliner dynmics is met in mny res from Ecology [16] to Physics [7]. From the point of view of the potentil pplictions, systems with sensitivity to the initil conditions cn e used in secure communictions[1], [15]. Of the pioneering ppers which proposed to use the chotic systems in communictions re the ppers of Pecor nd Crrol [10], [11]. Consequently, n pproprite chotic system cn e chosen from ctlogue of chotic systems to optimize some desirle fctors, ide suggested in [15]. These some ides led us to study new D polynomil differentil system given y: ẋ = y x), ẏ = c )x xz, ż = z +xy, ) Deprtment of Mthemtics, Politehnic University of Timisor, P-t Victoriei, Nr., 00006, Timisor, Timis, Romni, emil: gheorghe.tign@mt.upt.ro Deprtment of Mthemtics, West University of Timisor, B-dul V. 2 with,,c rel prmeters nd 0. Cll it the T system. Some results regrding the T system re lredy presented in [17] nd [18]. Compred with the Lü system introduced in [6], the system T llows lrger possiility in choosing the prmeters of the system nd, therefore, it displys more complex dynmics. The pper is orgnized s follows. In the second Section we give some detils of the equiliri. In Section, we py ttention to the chos in the system T nd, using method of type Shilnikov, we prove tht the system displys horseshoe chos. This implies tht the system possesses strnge chotic ttrctor. Not ny strnge dynmics is choticl s it is pointed out, for exmple, in [8], where is presented scenrio for -dimensionl dynmic system to possesses strnge nonchotic ehvior. The equilirium points of the system T Strightforwrd computtions led us to the following result: Proposition.1. If c ) > 0, the system T possesses three equilirium isolted points: O0,0,0),E 1 c ), c c ), ),E c ), c c ), ), nd for 0, c ) 0 it hs only one isolted equilirium point, O0,0,0). As reported in [17], we hve: Theorem.1. For 0 the following sttements re true: ) If > 0, > 0,c ), then O0,0,0) is symptoticlly stle, ) If < 0) or < 0) or > 0,c > ), then O0,0,0) is unstle. Theorem.. If + > 0,c ) > 0, +c c) > 0), the equilirium points E 1, ± c ),± c c ), ) re symptoticlly stle. Chos in the T system vi the heteroclinic Shilnikov method Computing the Lypunov exponents with the softwre Dynmics [9] for the prmeter vector,,c) =.1,0.6,0) nd the initil conditions 0.1, 0.,0.), we get tht λ 1 = 0.7 > 0, λ = 0.00 nd λ =.07. So the system T displys chotic chrcteristics. In the following, using the Shilnikov heteroclinic method, we show tht the system T presents chos of horseshoe type. We will employ the following result: Theorem.1. [14, 1]) If D given system ẋ = Fx) hs two equilirium points E 1, E, of type sddle-focus, i.e. the eigenvlues of the Jcoi mtrix ssocited to the system in these points re γ k R nd α k ±iβ k C, k = 1,, such tht nd the Shilnikov inequlity) α 1 α > 0 or γ 1 γ > 0 ) γ k > α k,k = 1,, 4) nd if the system hs heteroclinic orit connecting the equilirium points E 1 nd E, then the Poincré mp defined on trnsversl section of the flow in neighorhood of the heteroclinic orit presents chos of horseshoe type.
We will show tht our system T given y ẋ = y x), ẏ = c )x xz, ż = z +xy, 5) fulfills the conditions from the ove theorem. The equilirium points of the system T re: E 1, ± c ),± c c ), ) for c ) > 0. The chrcteristic polynomil ssocited to the Jcoi mtrix of the system T in these points is: Denoting λ = µ +)/, 6) leds to: f λ) = λ +λ +)+cλ+c ) = 0 6) where µ +pµ+q = 0, 7) p = c 1 1 8) nd q = c 1 c. 9) Denote = q ) + p ). Then, if > 0, Eq. 7) hs negtive solution, α1, together with pir of complex solutions, α ±iα, where So, if > 0, the three roots of Eq. 6) re: λ 1 = + α 1 = q + + q, α = 1 q + + q ), α = q + q ). +α 1, λ = + with λ 1 < 0. From the first two Eqs. of 5) one gets y = x+ ẋ, +α +iα, λ = + z = ẏ c )x x = ẍ+ẋ, nd using the lst Eq. of 5) we get ẍ+ẋ ) d dt x + ẍ+ẋ x + x +xẋ c ) = 0, or, equivlently x + c +α iα, 10) x... x ++)xẍ ẋẍ ẋ +xẋ+ x 4 +x ẋ c )x = 0. 11) We oserve tht if xt) is determined, then we cn find yt),zt). Therefore, we hve to find function φt) such tht xt) = φt) to stisfy Eq. 11) nd φt) c ) for t +,
φt) c ) for t or,inversely φt) c ) for t +, φt) c ) for t. We cn define, without loosing the generlity, tht the direction from E 1 to E corresponds to t, nd from E to E 1 corresponds to t. Consider φt) of the following form φt) = x 0 + n e nαt, with α rel numer nd x 0 = c ). Identifying the coefficients of e nαt in 11) we get: where = x 0 [ α +α +)+cα+c ) ] 1 = 0, 1) 1 α +α c )+6 x ) 0 f α)x +αx 0 1, 1) 0 = 1 fα)x 0 4 x 0 1 +αx 0 1) + [ + 1 fα)x 0 α +α +5α +α c+ +1 x 0 0] +9αx 1, nd for n fnα)x 0 with i,j,p,q 1. n = 1 fnα)x 0 ijpq + ijpq ) + 1 fnα)x 0 i+j=n i+j=n α j ij ) i j + [ α +)j ij ) ] +αj c )+6 x 0 +αjx 0 i j, 14) 15) f nα) = nα) +nα) +)+cnα+c ), 16) ijpq = 4x 0 ijpq = αx 0 i+j+p=n i+j+p=n i j p + p i j p +α i+j+p+q=n i+j+p+q=n i j p q, 17) p i j p q, 18) In orderto cn e implemented on the computer, we put the sums 17) nd 18) in the following forms: n ijpq = 4x 0 i n i 1 n ijpq = αx 0 +α n n j n i j + n i 1 i i n i 1 i n i j 1 j p=1 n i 1 n i j 1 j p=1 n i j) j n i j )+ p p n i j p )). p n i j p ), 19) 0) 4
Assume 1 0. If not, we oserve inductively tht ll coefficients n,n, re zero. Hence, from 1), we get α +α +)+cα+c ) = 0 1) tht is α is the negtive root ofchrcteristicpolynomil 6). Becuse Eq. 6) hs single negtive solution for > 0, we get tht f nα) = nα) +nα) +)+cnα+c ) 0,n > 1. ) Consequently, the coefficients n re completely determined y,,c,α nd 1, nd they re of the following form: n = gn) n 1,n > 1 ) where the terms gn) re known functions. So the corresponding rnch of the heteroclinic orit for t > 0 is determined. In similr mnner, consider the cse t < 0 nd φt) = x 0 + n e nβt, with β rel, nd find β = α nd n = n,n > 0. Consequently, the heteroclinic orit φt) is given y: x 0 + n e nαt for t > 0 φt) = 0 for t = 0 4) x 0 n e nαt for t < 0 Following method presented in [1] one cn show tht φt) is uniformly convergent. So we hve the following result tht chrcterizes the chos in the system T: Theorem.. If > 0 nd α 1 +α < +), then the system T hs heteroclinic orit given y 4), which connects the equilirium points E 1,E, so the chos is of horseshoe type. Let us prtilly illustrte the prticulr cse =.1, = 0.6, c = 0. Then λ 1 = α =.49, λ = i,λ = i, = > 0,x 0 =.84. Oservethttheequilirium pointse 1,E resddle-focus. Imposingtht φt) toe t lestcontinue, fromφ0 ) = φ0 + ) = 0, we find the eqution x n = 0, n > 1. 5) Solving this eqution, we oserve tht the first coefficient is 1 =.051 for ny n > 10. Remrk.1. Numericl series 4) which descries the heteroclinic orit etween E 1 nd E, is rpidly convergent. For exmple, considering the first ten terms of the series, for t = 10 we get φt) = x n e nαt =.84, for t = 10, φt) = x 0 10 n e nαt =.84 nd for t = 0, φt) = x n e nαt = So the equilirium points E 1, E nd O re found with n pproximtion of four exct decimls ecuse x 0 = c ) =.84. 5
4 Conclusions In this pper we investigted new chotic system. For some prmeter vectors, the system presents the property of dependence to initil conditions which is necessry condition for system to e chotic. The system possesses three equilirium points, the origin O0, 0, 0) nd nother two points E 1,. The chos of horseshoe type ws nlyzed using the heteroclinic Shilnikov method, constructing heteroclinic connection etween the sddle-focus equilirium points E 1 nd E. 5 Acknowledgements The work of G.T. ws supported through reserch fellowship offered y the Romnin Government y CNBSS nd prtilly through Europen Community Mrie Curie Fellowship, in the frmework of the CTS, contrct numer HPMT-CT The uthors re grteful to Prof. M.S.
