2 West of Moray Shetland Firth Area What is it? Roknowledge West of Shetland is a rock physics interpretation study and database designed to provide a visual look-up reference of rock physics relationships and the seismic behaviour of rocks. A powerful tool which provides a regional perspective of the rock and fluid properties, explaining in situ trends and expected seismic responses at reservoir level. Useful for both recognised plays, and also new ventures in under explored areas Includes the analysis of wells across quads 204, 205, 206, 207, 213 and 214. All wells include measured shear data. Roknowledge is a joint venture combining high quality conditioned well information provided by IHS Global, with the leading rock physics expertise of Ikon Science. Developed to reduce exploration and drilling uncertainty, this tool addresses the growing need for a convenient and interactive resource of quantitative interpretation solutions for the modern seismic interpreter, petrophysicist, geologist and reservoir geophysicist. With Roknowledge, interpreters can concentrate on seismic modelling rather than log inconsistencies, thereby saving time and cost

4 The West of Shetland context Oil and gas has been found in clastic reservoirs of Eocene, Palaeocene, Cretaceous and Jurassic age and in fractured basement of Devonian /Carboniferous age in the West of Shetland area. The majority of discoveries have been in Palaeocene age reservoirs. Except for the Foinaven/Schiehallion and Clair field areas the density of drilling is sparse and significant exploration success has been limited. A notable exception being the Laggan field discovery. Apart from the basement ridge complex which contains the Clair and Victory fields the prospectivity in the Tertiary is in a westerly dipping monoclinal sequence which shows little structure. Successful prospects tend to be in combination structural/stratigraphic plays which rely on pinchout or facies changes up dip to the east as seen at Laggan. Most of the wells targeting Tertiary prospects were drilled on amplitude or AVO anomalies. Roughly three quarters of these wells failed to find hydrocarbons. Analysis of West of Shetland drilling results has been discussed in various papers by Loizou (2003, 2005 & 2007). Loizou attributes these failures to be the result of poorly understood amplitude anomalies due to lithology rather than hydrocarbons, AVO artifacts and spurious DHIs. For those engaged in prospecting and exploration West of Shetland, acquisition of the Roknowledge study shall provide significant advantages, such as de risking new wells and post drill analysis of dry wells. A thorough appraisal of AVO anomalies shall be presented using detailed analysis of the rock properties and their corresponding seismic response. The study will provide regional trends for rock properties which will significantly reduce uncertainty by constraining rock physics modelling and allowing AVO anomalies to be better understood and interpreted.

7 Next step Further to the success of the Roknowledge Moray Firth study Ikon Science in partnership with IHS Global is developing a strategic regional play assessment on new and existing plays in the.
