WEBSITEE BE FOR WHEN W PREPARE NWinter Weather ED r r ARRIVES Winter inspiress both joy and woe. Some people cannot wait for the cooler weather, snow, skiing and ice skating, curling up by a fire and the holiday spirit. Other people dislike the frigid temperatures, snow and ice that are often part of the season. Nevertheless and regardless of whether winter is among any of our favorite seasons, it did officially arrive back on December 21 and The Villages at Belvoir team wants all residents to know that we aree ready to tackle any winter weather that may come our way! For your reference so that you, too, may be prepared to tackle any winter weather, following is our Inclement Weather Policy as it pertains to snow. In general, our snoww plan calls for plowing of all roadways once 2 of snow has accumulated. The plow trucks will start working on clearing roadways bumper-to-bumper and curb-to-curb. Once the roadways have been cleared enough to allow for the safe passage of two vehicles, or cleared to their widest point, the plow trucks will spend more time on clearing parkingg spaces, dead ends, driveway entrances, and alleyways that are not obstructed by vehicles. Continued on Page 2

2 glass Page 2 BE WIN PREPAR RED FOR TER WEATH ER (Continued) Earth Friendly Tips LEMON POWER Remove Ink Stains Ink stains on the carpet? Make a paste of cream of tartar and lemon juice and dab it on the stain. Let it sit for five minutes or so, then clean with a damp cloth. (Be sure to testt first in a non-visible area of the carpet to make sure carpet is not damaged when using.) Buff Aluminumm and Brasss Lemon is an effective cleaning agent for aluminum and brass. Sprinkle cream of tartar on a wedge of lemon and rub it into the surface. Let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse and buff dry. If you don t have any cream of tartar, you can also try this trick with baking soda. Clean Glass Lemon juice makes an excellent glass cleaner and it will even give your glass an extra shine. Pour it into a spray bottle and spray directly onto glass. Rub with a soft cloth to dry. Rub newspaper over the area to get rid of any streaks. CLEAN GREEN! When plowing and clearing is required due to accumulation as previously noted, so that itt may be performed safely and effectively, we ask that all residents: Park all vehicles in your garage, driveway, or designated parking space Move any vehicles you mayy have parked on any roadway, dead end, or alleyway to your garage, driveway, or designated parking spot Not shovel your vehicle and/or parking spaces out until contractor has cleaned the roadways curb-to-curb or bumper-to-bumper. This will help you from having to duplicate your shoveling efforts. If you live in a Village with no garages or driveways and you need to utilize parking spaces or roadways, everyone is asked to please park on the same side of roadway when possible. It would be helpful upon returning home if you moved your vehicles into areas thatt have already been cleared by the contractor. Doing so will help speed up the plowing process within thee community by allowing the snow contractor access to all paved areas. Do not park in front of areas the contractor is using to pile snow. Please do not stop the contractor and request that they plow your individual space, as this will surely slow the process down. Make every effort not to shovel out cars and walks and place the snow back in roadways. This will prolong the cleanup process immensely. Instead, place shoveled snow in lawn areas and islands where possible. Please instruct children on the danger off playing in or around roadways especially during these types of events. Having them play in common grounds and back yardss away from roadways is thee safest approach. Depending on the amount of accumulation, shoveling of sidewalks by our team normally startss when snow accumulations have ended. Crews will work their way through the community clearing common sidewalks only (not sidewalks that lead from common sidewalks to front doors). The sidewalk crews will treat all areas they have cleared with calcium or potassium chloride. Please remember that as outlinedd in your Resident Responsibility Guide, that you are responsible for removing snow from the sidewalk that leads from your front door to the common area sidewalk as well as from your driveway/parking pad. To assist you with your efforts, a limited supply of sand and/or ice melt and loaner snow shovels will be available at the Self Help Center should you want to use the items. Interested residents may pick the items up at the Self Help Center during regular business hours when inclement weather happens. If your family has special needs and you requiree assistance with the snow removal process, please contact your Community Management Office before bad weather hits to discuss your request. Additionally, and as always, please remember that should you experiencee a maintenance emergency or power outage at any time, including when inclement weather occurs, please call our 24-hour emergency maintenance line at too report the emergency or outage.. We also want to remind residentss who have a Facebook account to Like The Villages at Belvoir on Facebook as we often use our page to provide updates on information important to residents, including when bad weather moves into the area. Simply search for The Villages at Belvoir and Like us to keep updated on news and events.

5 Page 5 STILL LOOKING FOR A NEW YEAR S RESOLUTION? If you are still trying to decide what you might set as your New Year s resolution for 2014, here are a few fun and creative ideas we thought you might enjoy: 1. Get your photo taken in five interesting places If you have got the travel bug and want to see a bit more of the world, why not make it a New Year s resolution to visit five interesting places you ve always wanted to see? Even better, make a visual record of the year by making sure you get a photo of yourself taken in each place. 2. Break a record Want to give your confidence a boost and work towards a new challenge? Then make this the year that you break a record! You could aim at breaking a personal fitness record or, if you want to aim a little higher, set your sights on a world one. With lots of diverse (and bizarre) records there for the taking, this may not be as difficult as you think. Perhaps you could burn off some calories with the world s longest kiss, the longest time spent bouncing on a bouncy castle or the fastest one-mile run completed wearing swim fins... Yes, these are all real world record titles if you fancy your chances! 3. Make a new friend a month Fact: friends are great for your health, and the more you have of them the better. So, why not make it a New Year s resolution to start collecting them? To expand your social circle, try to make one new friend a month by making a conscious effort to attend more social events (we host many each month), chat to strangers and get introductions to friends of friends. Making friends with people with different personalities and interests can be particularly beneficial in helping you to broaden your horizons, explore different sides of your personality and find new ways to get the most out of life. 4. Develop a positive relationship with your body Many traditional New Year s resolutions center around improving our bodies in some way, whether by taking up a diet or joining a gym. This year, make it your resolution to start to love the body you have instead. While this doesn t mean you cannot make changes to your diet and fitness regime if your health requires it, it does mean starting to love who you are in the process. Work on improving your body confidence by focusing on the things you do like rather than those you do not and show off your favorite features. 5. Learn something you never learned as a child You may lead a team, run a household, pay your own bills and parallel-park like a pro, but do you know how to do a handstand or ride a bike? For this New Year s resolution, maybe it is time to nurture your inner child and learn that thing that you never learned to do. Whether it is the number of days in each month, how to spell necessary correctly, how to ride a bike or swim, we all have something we never learned as a child that everyone else seems to know. 6. Try a new food each week Rather than cutting out foods from your diet as with so many New Year s resolutions, opt to add more foods in to your diet next year instead (bonus points if they re green!). Many of us don t eat a varied enough diet, so ensure you are getting all the nutrients your body needs as well as enhancing your enjoyment of food by making a resolution to try a new food each week. Try hitting the fruit and veg aisle first to sample some exotic fruit and vegetables you may have yet to try, such as dragon fruit or lychees. 7. Do something nice for others every day Many of our resolutions (these included) are inwardly focused, concentrating on ways to become thinner, healthier, wealthier people. However, while there is nothing wrong with improving yourself, it is worth remembering there is a whole world out there too. This year, why not make a resolution to focus outwards instead and help make the world a better place. Plan to do one nice thing a day for someone else; whether it s something small like giving a compliment, or something potentially life-saving like donating blood or sponsoring a child in need. By knowing you are making a difference, you will also indirectly boost your own happiness and sense of achievement. MAKE 2014 YOUR BEST YEAR EVER!

6 Page 6 Maintenance AND Safety Corner If you should ever experience a MAINTENANCE EMERGENCY at your home, please call our 24-hour Maintenance Linee Has Your Garba age Dispos sal Suddenly Stopped Workin ng? NO PROBLEM - RESETTING YOUR DISPOSAL IS EASY! Have you ever found yourself at the sink and when you flip the switch to run your garbage disposal, you hear nothing but the sound of running water? The problem may be that the disposal simply needs to be reset, but before you start working through the following troubleshooting steps, promise us that you will obey the cardinal rule of "Garbage Disposal Repair" Specifically, that you will NEVER PUT YOUR HAND IN THE HOPPER (DOWN THE DRAINN INTO THE DISPOSAL)! That being said, let's take a lookk at fixing this vitall piece of kitchen equipment. If your disposal will not turn on and it is NOT making a humming sound, then there is an electrical problem. Follow these simple steps to quickly troubleshoot and possibly fix your disposal: 1. This may seem obvious, but make sure the disposal is plugged in. 2. If it is plugged in, then locate and press the Reset Button found on the bottom of the unit (note that if the disposal has reset, the buttonn will have popped out). 3. If that does not work, check your electric breaker panel to see if the circuit breaker has tripped and has turned off. If it has, simply flip the breaker switch back to the On position 4. If the Reset Button is not popped out and the breaker has not tripped, then it's either a faulty switch or a faulty garbage disposal. If thiss is the case, please call our 24 Hour Maintenance Line and submit a work order so that one of our technicians can come to your home to determine what the problem is and fix the disposal. Reset button shown on disposal bottom WE LOV VE HEARING FROM Y YOU! Please remember to complete and return the green Rate Your Maintenance Card that is left behind each time one of our maintenance technicians completes a work order at your home. This green postcard invites you to provide your feedback on our service. We appreciate the time you take to complete and return your card as your responses continually help us to improve on the service we provide to you and your family at your home. You may return your completed cards by mailing them (the cards are postage paid no stamp necessary), dropping them off at your Community Management Office, or completing it right away and handing it to the technician before he or shee leaves your home. Thank you!
