Photovoltaic products from FERON: backsheets halogen-free neox CPC and CPPC halogen-based standardx TPC and TPT frontsheets halogen-based tranlux EC Mission protective shield: FERON backsheets The main purpose of a backsheet is to protect all the components of a solar module for its entire lifespan and to guarantee energy flow without losses. FERON backsheets optimally protect the active elements from environmental influences, particularly against moisture, UV radiation, the effects of chemicals, and mechanical damage. Of course, the opposite is also true, as the environment must also be protected against the active electric elements of the solar module. The crystal-clear alternative: FERON frontsheets W e have been producing ETFE-based frontsheets for crystalline and thin-layer modules for more than 15 years. Compared to the glass normally used, they are not only lighter but also easier to process. A high level of light transmission also gives the active solar layers a higher level of efficiency. The highlytransparent FERON frontsheets also do not show any alternation by weathering. They show long-term resistance to influences such as UV radiation and moisture. 4
5 Ideas that stick HelioX PV coating technologies HelioX PV inside T he HelioX PV inside technology provides perfect UV protection for the PET film of a FERON backsheet. It is an excellent adhesion promoter to encapsulants (e.g., EVA) with very high bonding strength, for which the use of hot melt adhesive films (e.g. PE/EVA layers) as an integrated component of the backsheets is omitted. In this way, even with vacuum lamination, the thickness of the backsheet is guaranteed to be even a decisive advantage which makes a noticeable difference in the safety and quality of the final product! HelioX PV outside The HelioX PV outside, especially designed for outdoor coatings, has outstanding weathering resistance for the protection of the inside of the PET film. Extensive tests have also shown that HelioX PV protects the PET film equally well against aggressive chemical substances such as ammonia, as well as mechanical damage, such as scratching. Perfect prerequisites for an improvement in quality and the safety of your solar module. HelioX PV adhesives The adhesive technology used in FERON HelioX PV adhesives provides excellent bonding of all layers in multi-layer PV backsheets. It withstands the high strain requirements and creates long-term and environmentally stable bonds with high temperature resistance. HelioX PV adhesives already comply with the new PV standards for frontsheets and backsheets as well as the ageing requirements before and after the damp heat test. 5

During production, two of FERON s coating systems are applied to the high-performance PET film for electric insulation. Waiving the use of Tedlar or other halogen-based films makes the often problematic lamination process unnecessary. Due to their one-layer construction, CPC backsheets no longer have any physical weak spots as can occur with lamination bonds. The color can be selected individually and recycling is safe and poses no problems. The new HelioX PV backsheets neox CPPC by FERON are innovative film laminates made of two high-performance PET films, which are laminated together and coated with HelioX PV inside und HelioX PV outside for a maximum increase in durability. The color of the backsheets can be selected individually and reprocessing poses no problems. 9 Not ALL good things come in threes HelioX PV backsheets standardx TPC D ue to their high durability level and reliable processing qualities, most photovoltaic backsheets are still based on a two-layer Tedlar construction combined with a PET film (TPT). FERON has replaced the entire inner Tedlar film with the HelioX PV inside coating especially designed for this use, so that only the high-performance PET film and the one remaining Tedlar layer must be laminated together. The HelioX PV coating optimally protects against UV radiation and the material has outstanding adhesive qualities and bonding strength toward the encapsulants. The omission of the Tedlar layer is not a compromise, but a benefit! We offer these 2-film sheets to customers that don t completely want to forego the traditional Tedlar technology. 10 What is dear to some HelioX PV backsheets standardx TPT Of course, upon request, we also offer the classic 3-film sheet based on a high-performance PET film between two layers of Tedlar. A proven technology that the branch has trusted for more than 25 years. Manufacturers that use HelioX PV backsheets standardx TPT can be assured that the PET film is reliably protected against degradation by weathering with this design. An additional coating of Tedlar films to reinforce the durability is not necessary. 11 Way ahead of the game for 15 years HelioX PV frontsheets translux EC Our highly transparent HelioX PV translux EC frontsheets are sturdy and have excellent weathering- and UV-resistance. Also against external influences such as hail, fire, or chemicals, translux EC frontsheets provide outstanding protection. In addition, they are very tear- and impact-resistant and are given a practical easy-clean effect. It is not surprising that translux EC products have been used successfully in the PV market for more than 15 years! 12 Better than the norm F ERON HelioX PV sheets meet the IEC test norm safety requirements /-2 and , and the quality standard in accordance with IEC The sheets themselves and solar modules with our sheets have been certified by a variety of institutes. This also applies to the company of FERON, which is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO norm 9001:2008. Climatic tests To test the durability of the films under extreme climatic conditions, a damp heat test, lasting 4,500 hours at 85 C and 85% humidity (IEC 61215, procedure 10.13) was conducted. The corresponding test modules made of glass, encapsulant and HelioX PV sheets showed no visible or functional signs of adverse effects. More details about the test series and certifications can be found in the technical data sheets. Further information about safety and environmental compatibility can be found in our safety information. Even the more intensive 48 hour pressure cooker test at 121 C and 1.21 bar with 100 % humidity caused no visible or technical signs of impairment. For the weathering test, the HelioX PV sheets were subjected to more than 8,000 hours of simulated weathering with xenon light radiation. The samples were also subjected to a color and gloss assessment as well as an adhesion test. No visible signs of change occurred. 12
13 Physical monitoring The mechanical stress to the HelioX PV sheets is very high both during manufacture of solar modules and in operation. Tensile strength and tear resistance as well as elongation at break and the adhesion to encapsulant must be guaranteed to meet the future requirements to backsheets and guarantee a long lifespan. They are tested before and after the accelerated ageing process. The shrinkage rate of HelioX PV sheets is 1 to 1.5% in machine direction after 30 minutes and 1% in the transverse direction at an assumed 150 C in the lamination process. This minimizes possible problems caused by high tension levels. HelioX PV sheets have excellent bonding properties with junction box adhesives and to encapsulants, as the T-peel test confirms. The level was 2 (junction box adhesive) and 3 (encapsulant) N/mm even after 1,000 hours in the damp heat test. Corresponding tests have also shown that the scratch and abrasion resistance of our sheets more than meet the high demands in terms of potential external damage during the course of their usage or installation. The effectiveness of the water vapour permeability of our HelioX PV sheets are demonstrated in a water vapour transmission rate test (WVTR) at 38 C and 90% humidity. Electric testing By creating an electric arcing to cause a dielectric breakdown on the sheet, the reliability of the quality and material strength of the sheets was verified, with a breakdown voltage of more than 20 kv. HelioX PV sheets are continuously tested by corresponding test institutes for their resistance to partial discharges. With no ill effects, the sheets can withstand a local electrical breakdown with a system voltage of more than 1,000 V. This fulfills the current technical requirements in their entirety and provides a high level of safety in terms of outside shielding and module safety. Chemical resistance Because frontsheets and backsheets are exposed to chemical aggressors, e.g. surface cleaning, the HelioX PV sheets are tested for the effects caused by a variety of chemicals. A piece of cloth soaked in isopropanol, MEK or acetone leaves behind no sign of damage to the surface of the sheets, even after repeated rubbing. During the course of assessments conducted at testing institutes, the 28 day test of HelioX PV samples in a defined environment containing ammonia also caused no negative effects, which is why the sheets are also suitable for use in agricultural and sewage treatment-related applications. 13
