Big troubles (1) November 25, 2013: Half of the wire for lightning protection dropped The operation stopped for 1 week Removed by the antenna group 6

Big troubles (2): Unexpected heavy snow on Feb Snow accumulated more than 1 meter! Remove snow, snow, snow, snow Feb. 18: Snow removed, but the main reflector was distorted. Beam size at 43 GHz: 51 Feb. 20 & 25: Removed snow in the back-structure Operation stopped or affected for ~10 days 7

Other troubles, problems Spurious from PANDA (AD converter) (continued) Originated from the AD chips New PANDA (called Octad-a) without spurious: Mounted for IF 13, 14 (SAM 45: A13,14) Unstable nature of the new system (PANDA + SAM45) (continued) Number of troubles decreased, but sometimes it happens. Please continue to follow the instructions in the website of zobs (Use of arrays with pairs, etc). 8

Other troubles, problems Low Tsys (& intensity) mainly at A13,14,15,16 of SAM45: 10-30% Inappropriate timing to change the ATT values Due to the computer replacement in July 2013 Mailed to observers & To be fixed in this summer (zobs) Intensity difference: S100+AOS vs. TZ1+SAM45 Tested with simultaneous observations % (tentative) stronger in TZ1+SAM45 (T mb ) We continue to pursue this difference. We ask observations of standard sources. 9

New receivers, etc. Start of FOREST test observations Next Minamidani-san s talk and poster No. 5 Legacy observations: Galactic plane survey & Galaxies Start of Z45 test observations (PI: Nakamura-san) (with the new sw-box; COSMOS and zobs modifications) Mizuno-san s talk and posters No CCS mapping; HC 5 N 13 C species; Test of polarization observations New data of standard sources 12 CO, 13 CO: W3, TMC-1, Orion IRc2, IRC+10216, S140, NGC

Calibration issues From the UM last year Standard sources: Additional data released TZ1-S100: Continuing, sorry for the slow progress Efficiency: It takes time to release. Measurement in good condition, remeasure, analysis, examination, discussion Database of old data Reduced calibrated data are released in the web. We ask observers to provide such files. Pipeline analysis: Possible with Nostar & CASA 11

From the questionnaires Based on their achievement reports additional observational time allocated to 24 projects (due to trouble, bad weather, etc.) Remote observations from Mitaka: Good! Zobs: grid mapping & obspoint necessary Manual: Difficult, Old Replace all PANDA to new one Continuum analysis software did not work Due to the computer replacement. Under investigation. 12

Others Remote observations (2nd year) From Mitaka (ALMA building) Open for observations with the SAM45 spectrometers For experienced users 3 projects Summer schools Summer school for radioastronomy (NRO) Sept , 2013; Number of students: 12 June 2-6, 2014; Number of students: 12 Summer school (Joetsu University of Education) June 6-7, 2014 Summer school (University of Tokyo) June 6-7,

Plan for the next season (Dec June 2015) The 33rd open use: Deadlines (fixed to date) Category Deadline (2014) 15:00 JST [06:00 UT] General Proposal: 1st period September 1 General Proposal: 2nd period December 10 Short Program December 22 Education Program September 1 (& December 10)* Back-up Program September 15 * Depending on the results of the 1st call. Web page will be revised soon. Please Use a revised cover sheet Cut & paste results of the time estimator (explain input parameters, and refer the output results) Check the list of legacy projects in the 45m Open use : Internal use = about 2100 : 1900 hrs 14

Instruments & software Roughly the same system as the last season FOREST (4 beam receiver) is not released To concentrate on the new developments and to decrease loads: BEARS and AC45 will be decomissioned. We would like to ask your understanding. 15

Instruments & software (2) Antenna poster No. 3 AZ rail reconstruction: Until Oct. 11, 2014 Beam transmission system improvement (2 yrs) poster No. 8 Subreflector DCPA replacement (2 yrs) Beam SW & R-sky panels improvement 16

Instruments & software (3) PANDA spurious The AD chips are the origin of the spurious. We introduce new PANDAs (called Octad-a). In December, 4 IFs will be in good condition. Until March, we try all 16 IFs to be in good condition (Risk: replacement during the open-use). Remote observations (3rd yr) From Mitaka, NAOJ (ALMA building) Open to experienced users Open for observations with the SAM45 spectrometers Please contact Umemoto-san at Mitaka in advance (~ 10 days) (cc: to Takano) 17

Standard sources Others If possible, please observe to check the system & to calibrate intensity AOS Easy troubles will be repaired, but it may be difficult to repair in the case of severe troubles. Possible decrease of number of the spectrometers Helpdesk ToO, Change of observations, Inquiries, 18

Others Taurus: Close to the Sun after the middle of April Additional observational time is hard to allocate for General Proposal: 2nd period Sometimes the control room is in disorder some garbage (including the remains left after a meal and refreshments, and gum) So we request the observers to 19

About the 45m assistant Same as before, but policy or scope of the assistant was documented. NRO recommends that observers learn basic operations with technical support from the NRO assistant so that they can conduct observations by themselves. 1 hr break Occasionally work at the main building Uploaded in the 45m website: 20
