1 EMMANUEL HUGOT List of Publications PUBLICATIONS, REFEERED JOURNALS Over the last ten years, on top of the time spent in the deposit of patents (requiring secret) and the time spent in prototypes development, this work also led to the publication of 16 refereed papers and 43 SPIE conference proceedings, for a total of >500 citations. Note that this criterion is not relevant in this field: the goal is not to produce the breakthrough paper but the breakthrough operational system. The ideas and work presented in the first papers led to systems that are now used routinely during observations years after. The five highlighted publications represent the most impacting work. SAXO, the extreme AO system of SPHERE (I) System overview and global laboratory performance, Journal of Astronomical Optics, Instrumentation and Systems (JATIS), (2016) This is a consortium paper on the SPHERE extreme adaptive optics system, including the description of the active toric mirror we delivered and installed on sky, based on the 2008 theoretical paper listed below. This is the first time that an adaptive optics system is combined with an active mirror in its core, for means of high drifts compensations due to thermal and hygrometric variations on-site. Challita, detailing the 4-years effort led in the frame of OPTICON for the emergence of a brand new type of freeform active mirror. The paper describes the work done from the design to the realisation, assembly and performance characterisation. This unique device has been exposed on the Dutch Pavilion at the SPIE 2016 exhibit, in front of 3000 attendees. 1

2 [10] Laslandes M., Hugot E. et al, Mirror actively deformed and regulated for applications in space, Optical Engineering, special edition Space Optics (2013) This paper is closing a 3-years R&D action (MADRAS) undertaken together with the THALES group, detailing the development of a space deformable mirror, validated up to TRL4. Built in a technology transfer spirit, this activity helped the THALES group to win the CNES call for tender for the next generation of space active telescopes, currently under realisation. Stress polishing of supersmooth aspherics for VLT-SPHERE planet finder, Astronomy & Astrophysics 538 (2012) This paper is a Research note detailing the fabrication results of the SPHERE super-polished off-axis mirrors. It closes a 5-years development in manufacturing and testing of off-axis mirrors dedicated to high contrast imaging applications. These realisations are now used on sky at the core of SPHERE. Following this, NASA contracted the LAM for the realisation of three additional super polished off axis mirrors for their High contrast imaging platform STScI), which we delivered in [13] Hugot E. et al, Stress polishing of thin shells for adaptive secondary mirrors.
