Introduction In [Aharonov and Bohm, 1959] the authors gave a new physical meaning to electromagnetic potentials, in the context of Quantum Mechanics. A electron beam is splited in two paths in a region outside a thin solenoid (where H = A = 0) with a non-zero magnetic flux Φ = H ds = A dx.

A electron beam is splited in two paths in a region outside a thin solenoid (where H = A = 0) with a non-zero magnetic flux Φ = H ds = A dx. In the QM context, a relative phase difference φ is acquired by paths with the same start and end points that pass in opposite sides of the solenoid, to be φ = qφ c = 2πα.
In the QM context, a relative phase difference φ is acquired by paths with the same start and end points that pass in opposite sides of the solenoid, to be φ = qφ c = 2πα. This effect will exist, even though there are no magnetic fields acting in the regions where the electron beam passes, suggesting that A has a certain physical significance. [Chambers, 1960] confirmed experimentally the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect.
Introduction Analogues AB effect can be found in various areas of Physics.
Introduction Analogues AB effect can be found in various areas of Physics. In [Berry et. al, 1980] it is shown that if we have gravity waves on water in a locally irrotational fluid flow with a vortex in the center, it will experience an analogue AB effect. In this case, instead of A, we will have: v 0 = 0, where v 0 is the background flow velocity.
Draining Bathtub Vortex [Unruh, 1981] has presented a new way to see gravitation effects by studying analogue models in fluid dynamics. Starting with some conditions, as inviscid fluid, irrotational, and barotropic flows, the movement of these fluids is divided in two parts: background flow (v 0 ) + perturbations in the flow (δv = ψ). The potential perturbation ψ obeys the Klein-Fock-Gordon (KFG) equation, with an effective metric g µν that mimics curved spacetimes. 1 ( ) µ g g µν ν ψ = 0. (1) g
Draining Bathtub Vortex The model for a rotating black hole analogue was first developed by [Visser, 1998]. In this model, g µν are given implicitly by the infinitesimal interval ds 2 = g µν dx µ dx ν : ( ds 2 = c 2 sd t 2 dr + Dd t ) 2 ( rd r φ Cd t ) 2, (2) r where c 2 s = a g h (a g being the gravitational acceleration and h the height of fluid far from the scattering center). The constants C and D are circulation and draining rates, respectively. The background has the profile: v 0 = D r ˆr + C r ˆ φ. (3)
Draining Bathtub Vortex Setting c s = 1, we provide the change of the coordinates and d t dt = d t D rf dr d φ dφ = d φ CD r 3 f dr, with f = 1 D 2 /r 2. Then, Eq. (2) is rewrite as: ds 2 = (1 D2 + C 2 ) dt 2 f 1 dr 2 2Cdφdt r 2 dφ 2. (4) r 2 In this system of coordinates, it is easy found that the event horizon is located at r h = D and the ergo-region is within r e = C 2 + D 2.
Solutions to the KFG Equation To solve Eq. (1), we use the ansatz ψ(t, r, φ) = R mω (r)e i(mφ ωt) / r, (5) being ω the angular frequency of monochromatic planar waves. The equation to R mω is [ ( d 2 R mω + ω Cm dr 2 r 2 ) 2 f (m 2 r 2 with dr = dr/f, so that when r, r r. ) ] 14 5D2 + 4r 2 R mω = 0, (6)
Solutions to the KFG Equation The exact solution to Eq. (6) for m 0 is given in terms of Heun functions [Vieira and Bezerra, 2014], whose properties are not well known yet. However, it is possible to find analytic solutions to Eq. (6) for a slowly rotating acoustic hole (C/r small). In this regime, the solutions we seek far from the horizon and close to it are given by: πωr /2 [A (in) m e i(ν+1/2)π/2 H ν (2) (ωr )+ ] R mω +A (out) m e i(ν+1/2)π/2 H ν (1) (ωr ), r r h, exp [ i ( (7) ω mc/d 2) ] r, r rh, with A (in/out) m being constants and H ν (1/2) (x) the Hankel functions.
Partial-Wave Method The partial-wave method in two spatial dimensions is summarized in [Lapidus, 1982]. This method consists in writing the solution of Eq. (1) in a series form: ψ(t, r, φ) = e iωt + m= R mω (r)e imφ / r. (8) Far away from the scatter center, the wave function can be expressed as ψ(t, r, φ) = e iωt ( e iωx + f ω (φ)e iωr / r ), (9) where f ω (φ) is the scattering amplitude, and it was considered a plane wave propagating in the +x direction.
Partial-Wave Method With the Eqs. (8), (9) and the asymptotic expression of R mω for r r h in Eq. (7), we find: f ω (φ) = (2πiω) 1/2 + m= The phase shifts δ m are given by [Dolan and Oliveira, 2013]: and A (in) m = ( 1) m ( 2πiω) 1/2. (e 2iδm 1)e imφ. (10) e 2iδm = i( 1) m A (out) m /A (in) m, (11)
Phase shifts In the case m = 0, Eq. (6) has a simple solution in terms of Bessel function: R mω (r) = A rj iωd (ωr f). (12) We find that A = e ωdπ/2 and δ m=0 = iπωd/2. For large values of m ω C 2 + D 2, it is used the Born approximation (in two spatial dimensions see [Adhikari and Hussein, 2008]). As shown in [Dolan, Oliveira and Crispino, 2011], these values of δ m are: δ m απ 2 sgn(m) + 3π(α2 + β 2 ) 8 m 5απ(α2 + β 2 ) 8m 2 sgn(m), (13) being sgn(m) the signal function of m and α = ωc, β = ωd.
Semi-classical interpretation: Geodesics Analysis Via geodesics analysis [Dolan and Oliveira, 2013], we find the deflection angle Θ of null geodesics: Θ( b) = 3π(C2 + D 2 ) 4 b 2 5πC(C2 + D 2 ) 2 b 3 + O( b 4 ), (14) where b = L/E (L and E are constants corresponding to angular momentum and energy of phonons, respectively). Eq. (14) is related to Eq. (13) by the semi-classical relation with m/ω b. Θ( b) = d(2δ m )/dm
Semi-classical interpretation: Geodesics Analysis Via geodesics analysis [Dolan and Oliveira, 2013], we find the deflection angle Θ of null geodesics: Θ( b) = 3π(C2 + D 2 ) 4 b 2 5πC(C2 + D 2 ) 2 b 3 + O( b 4 ), (14) where b = L/E (L and E are constants corresponding to angular momentum and energy of phonons, respectively). Eq. (14) is related to Eq. (13) by the semi-classical relation Θ( b) = d(2δ m )/dm with m/ω b. Then, the last two terms of Eq. (13) are associated to phonon deflection (symmetric and asymmetric). The first one is due to a relative time difference accrued by geodesics passing on opposite sides of the vortex [Dolan, Oliveira and Crispino, 2011].
Analogue AB Effect - αβ Effect In [Lapidus, 1982, Adhikari and Hussein, 2008] we find the expression for the scattering cross section : dσ dφ = f ω(φ) 2. (15) To low frequency scattering, it is enough to take only the first term of (13): δ m = απ 2 sgn(m) and δ m=0 = iπβ/2. With them we get the scattering cross section of the αβ effect: dσ αβ dφ = π [ α cos(φ/2) ] 2 2ω sin(φ/2) β + O(ω 2 ). (16)
Analogue AB Effect - αβ Effect We compare the scattering cross section of the αβ effect, given by (16), with to the AB effect [Aharonov and Bohm, 1959]: dσ AB dφ = 1 sin 2 (π α) 2πω sin 2 (φ/2), (17) where α = e Φ/ch, Φ is the magnetic flux. With β = 0 (only vortex) both effects are very similar; they are symmetric by φ φ, but in the αβ effect, dσ αβ dφ = 0 to φ 180. As we increase the draining rate, we see that both effects begin to become more different to each other.
Analogue AB Effect - αβ Effect 3 2 α = 0.5 (AB) β = 0, α = 0.5 (αβ) β = 0.5, α = 0.5 (αβ) 1 log 10 [(ω)dσ/dφ] φ Figure: Analysis of differential scattering cross section of the AB effect and αβ effect, with α = α = 0.5.
Analogue AB Effect - αβ Effect Figure: The left plot shows the AB effect near an infinitesimal solenoid, and the right plot shows the αβ effect near a draining vortex with β = 1 and α = 0.5, illustrating wave front intersection along a seam. (Extracted from [Dolan and Oliveira, 2013].)
Remarks We have discussed about the AB effect in a draining bathtub vortex. It was found analytically δ m=0 and δ m using the Born approximation for larges values of m. In the low-frequency regime, we found the scattering cross section to the αβ effect and compared it with the original AB effect.
