Methods to calculate scalar twoloo vertex diagrams J. FLEISCHER Fakultät für Physik, Universität Bielefeld D3365 Bielefeld, Germany M. TENTYUKOV Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, 4980 Dubna, Moscow Region, Russian Federation. arxiv:heh/98044v 4 Feb 998 Abstract We resent a review of the BielefeldDubna activities on multiloo calculations. In the first contribution of the above authors in these roceedings, we have introduced our system for the automation of evaluation of Feynman diagrams, called DIANA (DIagram ANAlyser). In this contribution methods for the evaluation of scalar twoloo integrals will be discussed. Exansion of threeoint functions in terms of external momenta squared Taylor series exansions in terms of one external momentum squared, q say, were considered in [], Padé aroximants were introduced in [] and in Ref. [3] it was demonstrated that this aroach can be used to calculate Feynman diagrams on their cut by analytic continuation. The Taylor coefficients are exressed in terms of bubble diagrams, i.e. diagrams with external momenta equal zero, which makes their evaluation relatively easy. In the case under consideration we have two indeendent external momenta in d = 4 ε dimensions. The general exansion of (any loo) scalar 3oint function with its momentum sace reresentation C(, ) can be written as C(, ) = l,m,n=0 a lmn ( )l ( )m ( ) n () where the coefficients a lmn are to be determined from the given diagram. For many alications it suffices to confine to the case = = 0, which is e.g. hysically realized in the case of the Higgs decay into two hotons (H γγ) with and the momenta of the hotons. In this case only the coefficients a 00n are needed. In the twoloo case we consider the scalar integral (k 3 = k k, see also Fig. ) C(m,, m 6 ;, ) = (iπ ) d 4 k d 4 k ((k + ) m )((k+) m )((k+) m 3 )((kt+) m 4 )(k m 5 )(k 3 m 6 ). () k t in line 4 (with mass m 4 ) deends on the toology: for the lanar diagram we have k t = k while for the nonlanar we have k t = k 3. With obvious abbreviations for the scalar roagators: c i the i th scalar roagator of () with = = 0, we can quite generally write for the n th Taylor coefficient [4]: (iπ ) a 00n = n n + d 4 k d 4 k F n Suorted by Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie under PH/057BI9P 9. c c c 3 c 4 c 5 c 6. 2 k + k k + k k + k k + k + k k k k k + k + k + k + m 3 k + k + m m k + t m 4 k k t = k k t = k generic Figure : Planar and nonlanar scalar vertex diagrams and their kinematics The numerator F n can be written as F n = n ν=0 c (n ν) c ν 3 For the lanar diagram (k t = k ) we have [ ν+ν ] A n νν (k, k ) = n ν =0 µ=max(0,ν+ν n) c (n ν ) c ν 4 A n νν (k, k, k t ). (4) a nµ νν (k ) n (ν+ν )+µ (k ) µ (k k ) ν+ν µ. (5) The coefficients a nµ νν are mass indeendent and have been calculated with FORM u to order ε (d = 4 ε) and stored for the first 30 Taylor coefficients, i.e. they are given in terms of rational numbers. Finally all remaining integrals can be reduced by recursion [5] to bubbleintegrals of the tye d d k d d k V αβγ ({m}) = (k m )α (k m )β ((k k ) m, (6) 3 )γ or to factorizing oneloo integrals.the genuine twoloo bubble integrals are reduced by means of recurrence relations to V ({m}). This can be done numerically for the arbitrary mass case or also analytically for secial cases like e.g. only one nonzero mass. For details see [4],[5]. To erform the recursion numerically, it is imortant to use the multile recision FORTRAN by D.Bailey ([6]) since tremendeous cancellations occur in this case. We have resented one aroach for the calculation of the Taylor exansion of Feynman diagrams in some detail, others were worked out in Refs. [7],[8]. The latter one is articularly suited for rogramming in terms of a formulae maniulating language like FORM. The method of analytic continuation We assume the Taylor exansion of a scalar diagram to be given in the form C(,,...) = m=0 a my m f(y) and the function on the r.h.s. has a cut for y y 0. If the diagram has a threshold at 4m it is suggestive to introduce y = q /4m with q = ( ) as adequate variable with y 0 =. The method of evaluation of the original series consists in a first ste in a conformal maing of the cut lane into the unit circle and secondly the reexansion of the function under consideration into a ower series w.r.t. the new conformal variable. A variable often used is ω = y/y 0 + y/y 0. (7) By this conformal transformation, the ylane, cut from y 0 to +, is maed into the unit circle (see Fig.) and the cut itself is maed on its boundary, the uer semicircle corresonding to the uer side
y ω Figure : Conformal maing of the y = q /4m tcomlex lane into the ωlane. of the cut. The origin goes into the oint ω = 0. After conformal transformation it is suggestive to imrove the convergence of the new series w.r.t. ω by alying the Padé method [9],[0]. A convenient technique for the evaluation of Padé aroximations is the εalgorithm of [9] which allows one to evaluate the Padé aroximants recursively. Many interesting examles for the efficiency of this method have been worked out in the meantime and we refer to the literatur for massive diagrams to [3], [], [3] e.g. 3 Twoloo vertex diagrams with zero thresholds Concerning the vertex diagrams, there are many different toologies contributing to a 3oint function in the SM. For our urose of demonstrating the method, we confine ourselves to the lanar case shown in Fig. 3a. Fig. 3c,d resents infrared divergent diagrams. k + m 3 k k + k k k + k + m m 5 m 4 m 6 m a) generic b) c) d) Figure 3: Planar diagrams with zero thresholds. a) generic; b) IR finite diagram; c),d) IR divergent diagrams. As a tyical (and very comlicated case) we consider here Fig. 3b with equal nonzero masses [4]. There are two massless cuts so that we shall have the double logarithm in the exansion. After summing u four contributions we see that the double and single oles in ε cancel as well as the scale arameter µ, with the result (x = q /M ) F(q, M ) = M 4 n=0 j=0 f jn ln j ( x)x n M 4 { f0 (x) + f (x)ln( x) + f (x)ln ( x) }, (8) where the f jn are now given in terms of rational numbers and ζ(). f (x) can be summed analytically, 3
Table : Results for timelike q for diagram 3b. q /M [/] [5/5] Re Im Re Im yielding f (x) = ( ln + x iπθ( + x) ) /x. (9) Thus, we have to Padé aroximate f 0 and f only. Close to the second threshold at q = M the convergence is indeed excellent (see Table ) [4]. It should be noted that for the hysical alication we have in mind, i.e. Z b b, this is just the case of interest. It is worthwhile to note the shar increase for low q due to ln ( q /M ). The infrared divergent diagrams (Fig. 3c,d) have been successfully considered in [5]. 4 The Differential Equation Method We saw that to obtain the exansion of a diagram one has to go through a rather combersome machinery. The more coefficients are asked for, the more efforts and machine resourses are required. Thus it is very desirable to have analytic exressions for exansion coefficients whenever ossible. This can be done with the aid of the Differential Equation Method (DEM) [6] if only one nonzero mass occurs. The DEM allows one to get results for massive diagrams by reducing the roblem to diagrams with simler structure. Let us introduce a grahical notation for the scalar roagators (in euclidean sacetime) (q ) α = α, (q + m ) α = α m α and m refer to the index and mass of a line. Then one can derive the following recurrence relation for a massive triangle [6] α α 3 (D α α α 3 ) = m α α α 3 α +α ( α + α 3 α α + α 3 (m + m ) α α + α + α 3 ) α + (α α 3 ) along with some other grahical relations (see details in [6]). Using this technique we analysed in [7] the class of 3oint twoloo massive grahs. As an examle for the diagram of Fig.3c we get (D 4)J 5c = 4m m (0) In the r.h.s. of (0) the last two terms can be combined, resulting in dj/dm while for the second term we roceed in turn as 4
(D 4) = + () Thus we are left with simle diagrams (these can be done comletely by Feynman arameters) and the derivative of the initial diagram w.r.t. m. The solution of the corresonding differential equation in terms of a series obtained from an integral reresentation reads J 5c = Γ ( + ε) (q ) (m ) ε n= ( x) n Γ (n) Γ(n + ) [ ε ( ) ln(x) + S (n ) 3 ε S (n ) 5 S (n ) + 4S (n )S (n) ζ() ln(x)s (n ) + ln (x) ], where S l (n) = n k l A similar formula was obtained for the diagram of Fig.3d (see [7]). 5 Large mass exansion versus small momentum exansion If there are two or more different masses involved the coefficients a lmn in () are not just numbers any more but comlicated functions of mass ratios. If one of the masses is large, e.g. if the diagram contains a to, one can try to erform a large mass (LM, see [8]) exansion rather than a small momentum exansion. Let us consider the diagram with m = m = m to, m = m = m 5 = 0 and m 6 = m W (see e.g. [9]). There are again three subgrahs to be exanded. By direct evaluation we find that there are induced oles of the order /ǫ 3 in subgrahs while in the sum they cancel which serves as a good check. For this articular diagram the result of the LM exansion looks like dia = n= A n = ( b (0) n + b () n L + b () n L + b (3) n L 3)( ) n m () to with L = log(m to/µ ) and b (i) n s being known functions of q, m W and µ. The considered diagram is evaluated numerically at µ = m to = 80, m W = 80, q = 90. It turns out that also here again it is extremely useful to imrove the convergence of the LM exansions by alying Padé aroximants. U to a normalization factor 6π we obtain for the diagram (9.996,7.957), m 4 to taking into account terms u to n=0 in (). The Taylor exansion with 8 coefficients yields a recision of ar. 0 decimals the reason for which is that q is far below the threshold. The advantage of the LM exansion, however, is that it is easier to rogram and for many uroses the achieved recision is high enough. 5
6 Conclusion Any involved calculation in field theory nessesarily consists of two arts: )automatic generation of Feynman diagrams and source codes and )techniques of evaluating scalar Feynman diagrams. In our contributions we resented both and the methods have a standard that soon imortant alications can be considered. References [] A.I. Davydychev and J.B. Tausk, Nucl. Phys., B397 (993) 3. [] D.J.
