1 arxi: [math.ap] 3 Sep 18 Global Eistence of Strong Solutions to Compressible aier-stokes System with Degenerate Heat Conductiity in Unbounded Domains Kein LI, Xuanlin SHU, Xiaojing XU School of Mathematical Sciences, Beijing ormal Uniersity, Beijing 1875, P. R. China Abstract In one-dimensional unbounded domains, we proe global eistence of strong solutions to the compressible aier-stokes system for a iscous and heat conducting ideal polytropic gas, when the iscosity is constant and the heat conductiity κ depends on the temperature according to κ = κ β β >. ote that the conditions imposed on the initial data are the same as those of the constant heat conductiity case [Kazhikho, A. V. Siberian Math. J , 44-49] and can be arbitrarily large. Therefore, our result generalizes Kazhikho s result for the constant heat conductiity case to the degenerate and nonlinear one. Keywords: compressible aier-stokes system; degenerate heat conductiity; global strong solution; unbounded domains Math Subject Classification: 35Q35; Introduction The compressible aier-stokes system describing the one-dimensional motion of a iscous heat-conducting gas can be written in the Lagrange ariables in the following form see [5,] t = u, 1.1 u t +P = µ u, 1. e+ u +Pu = κ t +µuu, 1.3 where t > is time, R =,+ denotes the Lagrange mass coordinate, and the unknown functions >,u, >,e >, and P are, respectiely, the specific olume of the gas, fluid elocity, absolute temperature, internal energy, and pressure. In general, P,e, the iscosity µ, and heat conductiity κ are functions of and. In this paper, we consider ideal polytropic gas, that is, P and e satisfy P = R/, e = c + const., 1.4 Partially supported by Undergraduate Research Fund of BU 17-15, addresses: keinli98@163.com K. 2 where R specific gas constant and c heat capacity at constant olume are both positie constants. For µ and κ, we consider the case where µ and κ are proportional to possibly different powers of : where µ, κ > and γ,β are constants. µ = µ γ, κ = κ β, 1.5 The system is imposed on the initial condition,,u,,, =,u,,, 1.6 and three types of far-field and boundary conditions: 1 Cauchy problem = R, lim,t,u,t,,t = 1,,1, t > ; 1.7 boundary and far-field conditions for =,, u,t =,,t =, lim,t,u,t,,t = 1,,1, t > ; boundary and far-field conditions for =,, u,t =,,t = 1, lim,t,u,t,,t = 1,,1, t >. 1.9 According to the Chapman-Enskog epansion for the first leel of approimation in kinetic theory, the iscosity µ and heat conductiity κ are functions of temperature alone [6,7]. In particular, if the intermolecular potential aries as r a, with intermolecular distance r, then µ and κ are both proportional to the power a+4/a of the temperature, that is, 1.5 holds with γ = β = a+4/a. Indeed, for Mawellian molecules a = 4, the dependence is linear, while for elastic spheres a, the dependence is like 1/. For constant coefficients γ = β =, Kazhikho and Shelukhin [16] first obtained the global eistence of solutions in bounded domains for large initial data. From then on, significant progress has been made on the mathematical aspect of the initial and initial boundary alue problems, see [1 4, 8, 9, 14] and the references therein. For the Cauchy problem and the initial boundary alue problems and in unbounded domains, Kazhikho [15] also cf. [4, 8] obtains the global eistence of strong solutions. Much effort has been made to generalize this approach to other cases and in particular to models satisfying 1.5. Howeer, there are few results for the case that γ = β, partially because of the difficulty introduced in such relations, which lead to possible degeneracy and strong nonlinearity in iscosity and heat diffusion. As a first step in this direction, for bounded domain, Jenssen-Karper [1] proed the global eistence of weak solutions to under the assumption that γ = and β,3/. Later, for γ = and β,, Pan-Zhang [19] obtain the global strong solutions. Howeer, their methods depend heaily on the boundedness of the domain. In this paper, we will proe the global eistence of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem and the initial boundary alue problems and That is, our main result is as follows.
3 Theorem 1.1 Suppose that and that the initial data,u, satisfy γ =, β >, 1.1 1,u, 1 H 1, inf >, inf >, 1.11 and are compatible with 1.8, 1.9. Then there eists a unique global strong solution, u, with positie, t and, t to the initial-boundary-alue problem , or , or satisfying for any T >, 1, u, 1 L,T;H 1, t L,T;L L,T;H 1, u t, t, t, u, L,T. 1.1 Remark 1.1 Our Theorem 1.1 can be regarded as a natural generalization of Kazhikho s result [15] where he considered the constant iscosity case γ = β = to the degenerate and nonlinear one that γ =,β >. Remark 1. Although for γ = β =, the large-time behaior of the strong solution to the initial-boundary-alue problem , or , or has been proed just recently see [1, 11, 17], their methods cannot be applied directly to our case due to the the degeneracy and nonlinearity of the heat conductiity since β >. It is interesting to study the large-time behaior of the strong solutions for β >. This will be left for future. We now comment on the analysis of this paper. Compared with the constant iscosity case γ = β = [15], the main difficulty comes from thedegeneracy and nonlinearity of the heat conductiity due to the fact that β >. The key obserations are as follows: First, we modify slightly the idea due to Kazhikho [15] to proe the lower and upper bounds of. et, multiplying the energy equation 1.3 by 1 p + and noticing that the domains {,t < 1/} remain bounded for all t [,T] see.15, we find that the temperature is indeed bounded from below see Lemma.3 which lays a firm foundation for our further analysis. Finally, to obtain the higher order estimates, we will modify some ideas due to Li-Liang [17] to obtain the estimates on the L,T-norms of both u t and u see Lemma.6 which are crucial for further estimates on the upper bound of the temperature.the whole procedure will be carried out in the net section. Proof of Theorem 1.1 We first state the local eistence lemma which can be proed by using the principle of compressed mappings c.f. [13, 18, 1]. Lemma.1 Under the conditions of Theorem 1.1, there eists some T > such that the initial-boundary-alue problem , or , or has a unique strong solution,u, with positie,t and,t satisfying 1.1.
4 Then, to finish the proof of Theorem 1.1, it only remains to obtain a priori estimates see.1,.14,.4,.7,.35 below the constants in which depend only on T and the data of the problem. The estimates make it possible to continue the local solution to the whole interal [,T]. et, without loss of generality, we assume that µ = κ = R = c = 1. We modify slightly the idea due to Kazhikho [15] to proe the lower and upper bounds of. Lemma. There eists a positie constant C such that C 1,t C,.1 where and in what follows C denotes a generic positie constant depending only on T,β, 1,u, 1 H 1, inf, and inf. Proof. First, using 1.1, 1., and 1.4, we rewrite 1.3 as t + β u = + u.. Multiplying 1.1 by 1 1, 1. by u, and. by 1 1, and adding them altogether, we obtain u /+ log 1+ log 1 t + u + uu = u +u which together with 1.7 or 1.8 or 1.9 yields u T sup + log 1+ log 1 d+ Wsds e,.3 t T, where and e Wt β + u, td,.4 u + log 1+ log 1 d. et, for any, denoting = [], we hae by.3 +1 which together with Jensen s inequality yields α 1 +1 log 1+ log 1d e,.5,td α,α 1 where < α 1 < α are two roots of log 1 = e. +1,td α,.6
5 Moreoer, it follows from.5 that for any t >, there eists some b t [, +1] such that log 1+ log 1b t,t e, which implies α 1 b t,t α, α 1 b t,t α..7 Letting σ u = log t, we write 1. as Integrating.8 oer [,] [,t] leads to which gies where and t uy,t u dy = log log ds Thus, it follows from.9 that Since we hae u t = σ..8 t σ, sds, { t },t = D,tY tep ds,.9 { } D,t ep uy,t u ydy, { t } Y t ep σ, sds. t,τ,t = D,tY t 1+ D,τY τ dτ uy,t u ydy 1/ +1 1/ u dy + udy C, C 1 D,t C,.11 where and in what follows, C is a constant independent of. Moreoer, integrating.1 with respect to oer [, +1] gies 1 Y t which yields +1,td = +1 t,τ D,t 1+ D,τY τ dτ d, C 1 1 t Y t C +C 1 dτ,.1 Y τ
6 where we hae used.6,.11, and the following simple fact: +1,τD,t d C D,τ Applying Grönwall s inequality to.1 gies +1 C 1 1 Y t C, d C. which together with.1 and.11 implies that for,t [, +1] [,T], C 1,t C +C Then, direct computation gies β+1,t β+1 b t,t = β+1 d b t = β +1 β/ d β +1 b t +1 t CW 1/ t ma [,+1] 1/,t, ma [,+1] β 1/ +1 1/ d d which together with.7 yields that for any t >, ma,t C [,+1] 1+Wt ma [,+1],t,tdt..13. Putting this into.13 and using Grönwall s inequality yields that ma,t C,,t [,+1] [,T] which combined with.13 and the fact that C is independent of gies.1. The proof of Lemma. is finished. ow we are in a position to obtain the lower bound of the temperature. Lemma.3 There eists a positie constant C such that for all,t [,T], Proof. First, denoting by,t C > t = {,t > }, and < 1/t = {,t < 1/},
7 we get by.3 e <1/t log 1d+ log 1d >t log 1/ < 1/t +1 log > t log 1/ < 1/t + > t, which shows that for any t [,T], < 1/t + > t e log et, forp >, multiplying. by 1 p + with 1 + ma{ 1,} and integrating oer, we obtain 1 1 p+1 + p+1 d u + t 1 p + d u 1 p + d 1 u 1 p + d+ 1 1 p + d 1 u p 1 p + d+c 1 p+1 + d p+1, where in the last inequality we hae used.15. Thus, we hae 1 + p L 1 p+1 + L p+1 t C 1 + p L p+1, with C independent of p. This in particular implies that there eists some positie constant C independent of p such that 1 L + C..16 p+1 sup t T Using.15, letting p in.16 shows sup t T 1 + L C, which proes.14 and finishes the proof of Lemma.3. For further uses, we need the following estimates on the L,T-norm of u. Lemma.4 There eists a positie constant C such that T u + 1 ddt C..17
8 Proof. First, by.3, we hae T T ma 1+β dt C C C C C 1 T T T T T ma 1+β + dt+c β + ddt+c >t >t >t ma 1+β β ddt+c β+ d 1/ ma 1+β dt+c where in the fourth inequality we hae used sup d C sup t T t T 1/ T due to.3. Combining.18,.3, and.1 yields which implies T T T ma dt C 1/ β d dt+c 1/ β d dt+c β ddt+c,.18 log 1d C,.19 ma 1+β dt C,. ma 1+ 1+β dt C..1 et, integrating the momentum equation 1. multiplied by u with respect to oer, after integrating by parts, we obtain 1 u u d + t d = u d 1 1u = u d d C 1 d+c 1 d+ 1 u d C d+c +C 1 d+ 1 u > d Cma +C + 1 u d, where in the last inequality we hae used.19,.3, and.1. Combining this with.1 gies T u ddt C..
9 Finally, if β 1, we hae T T 1 ddt C β ddt C..3 If β,1, for < α < 1, multiplying. by α 1 α α + and integration by parts gies 1 α >t >t β+α u d+ α 1 α α + d + α 1 α = 1 α α α +d t α α α + u + d 1 α α α +d + 1 α t β +Cα d+c >t >t β+α d β+α d u d+c +Cma >t d, which together with.,.1,.19,.15, and Gronwall s inequality yields T β+α ddt Cα. In particular, combining this where we choose α = 1 β,1,.3, and. proes.17. The proof of Lemma.4 is completed. Lemma.5 There eists a positie constant C such that T sup d+ ddt C..4 t T Proof. Rewriting momentum equation 1. as due to = u t + t t =, t,.5 we multiply.5 by to get [ 1 ] = u t + t = = u t u t ulog t + 3 [ulog t ] + u
1 Integrating.6 oer [,T] and using.17, one has [ 1 ] T sup t T u d+ 3 ddt T C + ddt C + 1 T T 3 ddt+c 1 ddt C + 1 T 3 ddt. This in particular implies.4 due to the following simply fact: ud 1 d+c. 4 Thus, the proof of Lemma.5 is finished. Lemma.6 There eists a positie constant C such that T sup u d+ u +u t ddt C..7 t T Proof. First, we rewrite the momentum equation 1. as u t u = u +..8 Multiplying both sides of.8 by u, and integrating the resultant equality in oer, one has 1 d u u dt d+ d u u d + u d + u d.9 1 u 4 d+c u + + d. Direct computation yields that for any δ >, u + + d C ma u +ma d+ d Cma u +Cma + +C + d δ u d+cδ u d+c +C d, where in the last inequality we hae used ma u u d δ u d+cδ 1/ 1/ u d u d u d,.3.31
11 and ma + = ma y + y,tdy y dy C >t d. Putting.3 into.9 and choosing δ suitably small yields d u u dt d+ d.3 C u d+c +C 1 β d. et, motiated by [17], we integrate. multiplied by + ma{,} oer to get 1 + d β + >t d oticing that = Cma β d C u + d+ >t >t t u +d + d+ u d. β d+ we deduce from.33 that 1 +d +C β d t β C +C d+cma t β d+c β d t β d, + d+cma u d..33 Adding this multiplied by C 1 C 1 to.3 together with Gronwall s inequality gies T sup u + + d+ u +β ddt C,.34 t T which together with.8,.9, and.3 yields.7 and finishes the proof of Lemma.6. Lemma.7 There eists a positie constant C such that T d+ sup t T t + ddt C..35
1 Proof. First, multiplying. by β t and integrating the resultant equality oer yields β t d+ β+1 t u d = β β β t u t d+ d β = β t d+ β t u d β = β d+ β t u d t = 1 β t β t u d+ d = 1 β d 1 β u t d+ β t u d, which gies β td+ 1 β d t = 1 β u β+1 t u β t u d d+ d d+ Cma u β/ 3β/4 1 β t d +C β+ u d+c β u 4 d C β d β d+cma β+ + β u + 1 β t d+c C β d β d+ 1 β td+cma β+ +u 4 +C due to.34. et, it follows from.31 and.34 that T ma u4 dt C, which together with.36, the Gronwall inequality, and.34 leads to where we hae used.36 d+ T sup β β t ddt C,.37 t T ma β+ C +C β d..38 Combining.38 with.37 implies that for all,t [,T],,t C..39
13 Then, combining.14 and.37 leads to Finally, it follows from. that β +β β 1 β = T sup d+ t ddt C..4 t T = β u + u + t, which together with.14,.39,.4,.34, and.31 gies T T ddt C C +C C +C T 4 + +u4 +u + t ddt ma T +u dt ddt+ 1 T ddt. Combining this with.4 gies.35 and finished the proof of Lemma.7. References [1] Amoso, A. A., Zlotnik, A. A.
