2 I. INTRODUCTION Bigvity theoy is n ltentive theoy of gvity tht descibes both mssless nd mssive gvitons [, ] fo eview, see []. The low-enegy modifiction fom Genel Reltivity GR is expected to explin mysteious components of the univese known s dk mtte nd dk enegy. Bigvity models genelly contin two Einstein Hilbet tems epesenting the two metics, s well s the mixing tem of the two metics, in ode to genete mss fo gviton. Recent developments in the study of bigvity o mssive gvity theoies [4 8] hve stemmed fom the discovey of the ppopite mss tem fo ghost-fee nonline bimetic ction. Moe ecently, Nojii, Odintsov, nd thei collbotos hve consideed extensions of the bigvity theoy [9 4] in which the pue Einstein Hilbet tems e eplced by the Lgngin of FR gvity o scl tenso theoies. These uthos hve studied models hving scl degees of feedom with view to esolving the cosmologicl poblems in the vey ely e, s well s in the pesent univese. In 04, Novello nd collbotos pesented new theoy of gvity, clled Geometic Scl Gvity GSG [8 ]. In this theoy, the dynmics of gvity is descibed by single scl field. A nomlized deivtive of the scl field expesses pt of the dynmicl metic, s well s the scl field itself. Novello nd his collbotos found specific fom of the scl field potentil fom which the Schwzschild spcetime is deived s n exct solution. These eseches lso discussed the exotic cosmology bsed on GSG [8 ]. The novel behvio of the scle fcto in the GSG cosmology povides vey inteesting supplementy pespective on the issue of the initil singulity []. On the othe hnd, GSG pedicts scl gvittionl wves [8, 6], which my conflict with ecent diect obsevtions of gvittionl wves fom blck hole biny [7]. Futhe, moe scl degees of feedom my be needed in ode to explin the gvittionl field ound spinning souce [, 8]. Theefoe, the simplest GSG model hs pcticl difficulty in descibing stophysicl pocesses. In this ppe, we popose GR GSG hybid model of gvity. Ou model consists of the dynmics of fundmentl metic tenso in GR nd n effective metic in GSG. This In cetin sense, mssive gvity is just bigvity in which one of the metics is non-dynmic. Fo the vious models of modified gvity nd thei cosmologicl menings, see [5 7]. See lso [4, 5].
3 theoy ntully possesses mssless mode fo the symmetic tenso field nd yields the Schwzschild solution exctly. Nevetheless, the cosmologicl solutions in the model e expected to be inteesting, becuse they my inheit novel chcteistics fom GSG solutions. In the next section, we define ou model. In Sec. III, we investigte spheiclly symmetic solution of the model in wek gvity. In Sec. IV, we exploe cosmologicl solutions fo ou model. We conside two cses: two metics independently coupled to coesponding mtte nd the cse in which the composite metic is consideed to be the physicl metic coupled to mtte. Finlly, we summize ou wok nd emk on the genel significnce of ou study in Sec. V. II. THE GR GSG HYBRID MODEL A. Bief eview of GSG Fist, we povide bief eview of GSG [8] to ende the pesent ppe self-contined. The effective metic q µν in GSG is descibed by scl field Φ s [ q µν = e Φ η µν e 4Φ VΦ e 4Φ VΦ ] µ Φ ν Φ,. w whee w η µν µ Φ ν Φ nd η µν is flt Minkowski metic with the signtue +++. The invese of the effective metic is then witten s [ ] q µν = e Φ η µν + e 4Φ VΦ η µρ η νσ ρ Φ σ Φ.. w Note tht detq = e 6Φ VΦ detη, q µν ν Φ = e 6Φ VΦη µν ν Φ.. We conside the following ction govening the dynmics of Φ with potentil VΦ: S GSG = Mq d 4 x detq VΦq µν µ Φ ν Φ,.4 whee M q is constnt with mss dimensions. The vition of the ction with espect to Φ is clculted s δs GSG = Mq d 4 x detq VΦ q ΦδΦ,.5

Theefoe, they employ We lso dopt this potentil in the pesent ppe. VΦ = 4 eφ e Φ..7 B. Constuction of hybid model The following Einstein Hilbet ction is exploited in ode to povide the dynmics of the metic tenso g µν : S GR g = M g d 4 x detgr g,.8 whee M g is constnt with mss dimensions nd R g is the Ricci scl constucted fom the metic tenso g. The vition of the ction.8 with espect to g yields δs GR g = M g whee R µν g denotes the Ricci tenso constucted fom g. d 4 x [ detg R g µν R gg ]δg µν µν,.9 Next, we conside the mixing tem of g nd the effective metic q. Fo simplicity, we dopt tht used in the miniml cse of the ghost-fee bigvity, which is expessed s follows [, 5, 9 4, 9, 0]: S mix g,q = m M 0 d 4 x [ detg t g q +det ] g q,.0 whee m nd M 0 e two constnts with mss dimensions. Note tht M 0 is implicitly consideedtobeofthesmeodesm g ndm q. Thetenso g q mens g q µ ρ g q ρ ν = g µρ q ρν. The vition of.0 is given by δs mix g,q = m M0 d 4 x detg [g µν t g q + g q µ ρg ρν + g q ν ρg ρµ ]δg µν

Note tht possible dditionl ction fo mtte fields S mtte will be consideed lte, in Sec. IV. The equtions of motion deived fom S cn be expessed s [ Mg R g µν ] R gg µν m M0 [g µν t g q + g q µ ρg ρν + ] g q ν ρg ρµ = 0,. nd M q VΦ q Φ+ m M 0 detg [τ + detq V ] dv ε+ gµχ µ = 0,.4 dφ whee τ 4det g q t g q,.5 ε det g q Ω g q µ ρg ρν µ Φ ν Φ,.6 χ µ e 4Φ V Ω g q µ ρg ρν g q ν ρg ρµ + Ω g q λ ρg ρσ λ Φ σ Φq µν ν Φ,.7 with Ω q µν µ Φ ν Φ = e 6Φ Vw, g µ χµ detg µ detgχ µ..8 Hee, we hve used [8] [ δq µν = δ [e Φ η µν e 4Φ V [ = q µν + 4 V dφ Ω + e 4Φ V Ω ]] e 4Φ Vw µφ ν Φ dv µ Φ ν Φ ] δφ, [ e 6Φ V Ω µφ ν Φ λ Φ λ δφ µ δφ ν Φ µ Φ ν δφ ]..9
6 6 III. STATIC SPHERICAL SOLUTIONS In this section, we conside sttic vcuum solutions with the spheiclly symmetic nstz. Fist, we conside the flt metic in spheicl coodintes η µν dx µ dx ν = dt +dr +R dω.. whee dω is the line element on unit sphee. Becuse the spheicl symmety enfoces the fct tht the GSG scl field Φ hs only dil-coodinte dependence, i.e., Φ = ΦR, the effective line element ds q becomes ds q q µν dx µ dx ν = e Φ dt + e6φ VΦ dr +e Φ R dω.. Now, conveting the dil coodinte to e Φ R, we find ds q = q µν dx µ dx ν = q µν dx µ dx ν = Bdt +Hd + dω,. whee B = e Φ, H = e4φ dφ..4 VΦ d Next, we impose the bidigonl spheiclly symmetic nstz [], i.e., g is lso digonl nd ssumed to be ds g = g µνdx µ dx ν = Ddt + d + γdω..5 Fom these ssumptions, the quntities defined in.5,.6,.7 e expessed s τ = 4 HB B γ D D + H +, ε = HB γ γ D H, χ µ = 0,.6 nd.4 becomes B H B + m M0 γ HB Mq [ D HB 4 γ HB B D + +B B γ D + H + γ ] HB D H = 0,.7 whee the pime indictes the deivtive with espect to. B B Fom these field equtions, one cn find tht the Schwzschild metic is obtined s n exct solution, i.e., B = D = = M, γ =,. whee M is n bity constnt. Unfotuntely, it is difficult to obtin genel solutions of the field equtions explicitly, becuse of thei sevee nonlineity. Theefoe, we petub the metic ound the Minkowski spce to the fist ode. Then, the field equtions.7,.8,.9,.0 give n symptotic solution in vcuum hving whee µ is given by B = M D = M = M e µm +e µ ζm,. +O,.4,.5,.6 +e µ µl 0 M + ζm +O γ = +e µ µg 0 M + g +ζm +O µ = +ζm M 0 ζm g +M q nd ζ is constnt. The othe coefficients e detemined to be,.7 l 0 = ζ5ζ +M4 g M g M q M4 q M gζm g +M q, g 0 = ζm g M q M g, g = ζm g M q ζm g +M q..8
8 8 Hence, H is clculted s H = M e µm µ +highe odes in M,M nd e µ..9 Inteestingly, we note tht q 00 q = B H = µm e µ 0 in the smll mss limit µ 0, up to this ode. In the sme mnne, we lso find tht g 00 g vnishes in the smll mss limit µ 0, up to this ode. These symptotic behvios show diffeent cse fom the bigvity theoy with two tenso fields [, ]. In this section, we hve found tht the sttic spheicl solution of ou model is vey simil to the GR solution. In the next section, we conside the cosmology bsed on ou model. IV. COSMOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS A. Cosmology with two metics In this section, we ttempt to study the cosmologicl solution fo ou hybid model. We expect new nd inteesting scle-fcto behvio, s GSG is known to give non-stndd evolution of the scle fcto [0]. We fist ssume the totl ction s S +S mtte, whee S mtte = d 4 x detgl g g,ϕ g + d 4 x detql q q,ϕ q. 4. This fom is known s the sfest nd most inteesting choice in bigvity theoies fo cosmology [, ]. It is often efeed to s twin mtte model. Of couse, this ssumption involves the oiginl Hssn-Rosen theoy [] fo L q = 0. Now, the field equtions including mtte e [ Mg R g µν ] R gg µν m M0 [g µν t g q + g q µ ρg ρν + ] g q ν ρg ρµ = T g µν, 4. whee detgl g g g ρµ g σν, 4. detg g ρσ T µν

Then, ds q becomes ds q = q µν dx µ dx ν = e6φ VΦ dt +e Φ dx. 4.7 If coodinte tnsfomtion is pefomed such tht dt = Nt e 6Φ VΦdt, new expession is ttined: ds q = q µν dx µ dx ν = q µν dx µ dx ν = Nt dt +e Φt dx = Nt dt +bt dx, 4.8 whee the scle fcto fo q is defined s bt e Φt. We gin conside the bidigonl nstz nd ssume tht g tkes the fom ds g = g µνdx µ dx ν = ct dt +t dx, 4.9 whee t is the scle fcto fo g. Note tht the metic is the usul flt Fiedmnn Lemîte Robetson Wlke metic fo ct =. If we set ct = t, we obtin the confoml fom of this metic. fluid We futhe ssume tht ech enegy-momentum tenso is given in the fom of pefect T µν g = ρ g +p g u µ g uν g +p gg µν, T µν q = ρ q +p q u µ q uν q +p qq µν, 4.0 whee u µ g nd u µ q e the fou-velocities tht stisfy g µν u µ gu ν g = nd q µν u µ qu ν q =, espectively. Futhe, using 4. nd 4.9 gin to eliminte ȧ nd ḃ, we obtin n lgebic eqution incopoting, b, N/c, ρ g, p g, ρ q, nd p q. Simple nsätze fo the equtions of stte ρ q +ḃ b ρ q +p q = p g = ω g ρ g, p q = ω q ρ q 4.4 whee ω g nd ω q e constnts, give the dependence on scle fctos, i.e., ρ g = ρ g0 0 whee ρ g0, ρ q0, 0, nd b 0 e constnts. +ωg +ωq b0, ρq = ρ q0 b, 4.5 Using ll of the nsätze, the N/c given by 4.0 cn be expessed s n function of nd b. Then, we cn obtin the time-development of nd b by solving the diffeentil equtions 4., 4.9, nd 4.0. Figue shows the esults of numeicl clcultions. Hee, we set M g = M q = M 0 fo simplicity. We lso set c = so tht the pmete t becomes the stndd cosmologicl time. The initil vlue of t is set to = 0 =. We egd the mtte s dust ω g = 0. In these clcultions, we set ρ q = 0 fo simplicity. This is becuse b soon becomes lge, s N/c is lge when is smll: then, ρ q /b +ωq becomes smll. The eltive evolution of the two scle fctos cn be clely seen if the solutions e plotted on n,b-plne s shown in Figs. nd 4. The ows in the figues indicte the nomlized vecto ȧ ȧ,ḃ = 4.6 +ḃ +N /c,n/c,

Becuse the vlue of N/c is negtive o lmost zeo t t =, cosmic cceletion is fesible fo lge vlue of b/ nd fo lge vlue of M g m /ρ g0, which is confimed by the numeicl clcultions. A subtle point to note is tht q 00 = N vnishes t cetin points fo sufficiently lge b nd m : in othe wods, thee e deteminnt singulities []. As we hold tht q is

In this subsection, we hve found tht the of the physicl g cn exhibit cceleted expnsion if m nd the initil vlue of b/ e sufficiently lge, even if thee is no exotic mtte. It is woth noting tht the expnsion deceletes in the ely stges. The cceletion occus subsequently nd ends in the lte stges. B. Cosmology with composite metic Next, we conside model with composite metic, simil to the bigvity models poposed in [4, 5]. The ction fo mtte is now ssumed to be descibed with the composite metic G µν = α g µν +αβg µρ g q ρ ν +β q µν, 4.8 whee α nd β e constnts. The composite line element fo cosmology is given by ds G = G µνdx µ dx ν = αc+βn dt +α+βb dx C dt +A dx, 4.9 whee we use the sme symbols fo the components of the two metics s in the pevious subsection. Figue 5 shows the esults of numeicl clcultions fo the composite metic model. Hee, we set M g = M q = M 0 fo simplicity. We lso set c = so s to mke the pmete t the stndd cosmologicl time.
