4 Term 4 Course Selection Advice () and (Introduction to ) are the first 2 Mechanical courses. Both are prerequisites for later courses in the ME curriculum, so it s important to take them as soon as possible If you are behind in the schedule, it is best to delay PEP 201 ( Students) and/or the Term 4 course If you are ahead in the Study Plan, and want to take a Term 5 course, the best choices are E 344 (Materials Processing), E243 (Probability and Statistics) or the Term 5 course Stevens Institute of Technology

5 Co requisite: MA 221 Includes review of matrix operations, Cramer s rule, row reduction of matrices; inverse of a matrix, eigenvalues and eigenvectors; systems of linear algebraic equations; matrix methods for linear systems of differential equations, normal form, homogeneous constant coefficient systems, complex eigenvalues, nonhomogeneous systems, the matrix exponential; double and triple integrals; polar, cylindrical and spherical coordinates; surface and line integrals; integral theorems of Green, Gauss and Stokes. 6 PEP 201 PEP 201 Students Prerequisites: MA 116 or 124, PEP 112 Covers simple harmonic motion, oscillations and waves; wave particle dualism; the Schrödinger equation and its interpretation; wave functions; the Heisenberg uncertainty principle; quantum mechanical tunneling and application; quantum mechanics of a particle in a "box," the hydrogen atom; electronic spin; properties of many electron atoms; atomic spectra; principles of lasers and applications; electrons in solids; conductors and semi conductors; the n p junction and the transistor; properties of atomic nuclei; radioactivity; fusion and fission. 7 Prerequisite: E 245, E 231 This course continues the experiential sequence in design. Design projects are in, and lectures address, the area of Electronics and Instrumentation. Core design themes are further developed. Design spine core Stevens Institute of Technology

8 Prerequisites: E 126, PEP 112, MA 116 or 124 Covers particle kinematics and kinetics, systems of particles, work energy, impulse and momentum, rigid body kinematics, relative motion, Coriolis acceleration, rigid body kinetics, direct and oblique impact, eccentric impact. 9 Introduction to Prerequisites: CH 115, PEP 111, MA 116 or 124 Covers concepts of energy, heat and work; thermodynamic properties of substances and property relationships, phase change; First and Second Laws for closed and open systems including steady and transient processes and cycles; using entropy; representative applications including vapor and gas power and refrigeration cycles.
