2 L I M I T E D E D I T I O N S T H E N E W A M E L S The LIMITED EDITIONS series was created by AMELS a world leader in custom yacht building exclusively for people to whom time is a precious a commodity. When you acquire a LIMITED EDITIONS yacht, therefore, you save time by entrusting AMELS with the conceptual design, structure, engineering, and basic outfitting critical but time-consuming functions performed by top experts. Of course, those experts are prepared to modify certain aspects of your yacht according to your tastes and desires, within reasonable limits. The result is that a LIMITED EDITIONS yacht is delivered as much as two years earlier than a fully customized one, yet it possesses the quality, performance, finish, and individuality all Amels clients have come to expect. LIMITED EDITIONS grew out of the 1991 acquisition of Amels by the Damen Shipyards Group of more than 30 shipyards generating more than one billion euros in annual turnover. This brought immeasurable advantages to AMELS, including new levels of technology sharing, improved infrastructure, a deep pool of design and engineering talent, solid financial security, and a new marketing energy. The first LIMITED EDITIONS yacht, the 52-meter AMELS 171, was introduced in September It was sculpted with fluidity and flair by the noted British artist Tim Heywood, and offered a stylishly eclectic interior by Italian architect Laura Sessa. Within less than one year three AMELS 171s were sold. AMELS is pleased here to reveal preliminary details of the second in the ground-breaking LIMITED EDITIONS Series, the meter AMELS 212. This stunning achievement brings Tim Heywood together with the equally renowned British designer Andrew Winch, who has styled a remarkably adaptable interior to suit a wide variety of tastes.

The design was realized by Heywood and Winch, who are longtime colleagues since working at the side of Jon Bannenberg. They are today at the top of their individual creative power and they share a well-reasoned philosophy based on originality and attention to detail. Working together without a specific client in mind but intimately familiar with what every client desires they have styled a yacht of unique dynamism, charisma, and timelessness, confident that it will be attractive to discerning clients seeking the good life. From her 200-square-meter sun deck to her zero-speed stabilization the LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 is a formidable, go-anywhere yacht designed to thrill the most demanding owner. Powered by Caterpillar diesels, her top speed is an unusually high 17 knots; with 155,000 liters of fuel her range is 5,000 nautical miles. She will carry a new low-noise electric bow thruster to assure silent running, and she is being built in a green manner to guard the environment. The shipyard is constructing the LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 to Lloyd s Register Class and in compliance with the MCA Large Commercial Yacht Code (LY2) under Cayman Islands registry.

She has a character that Heywood describes as strong and athletic, yet feminine and sleek, qualities that are equally appealing to men and women, and that represent Heywood s finest efforts at shaping a universally attractive vessel. A great deal of attention has been paid by Heywood and the Amels naval architects to assure owners that every aspect of their elected lifestyle is available with ease and in perfectly satisfying architectural surroundings. The LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 has a 100-square-meter watersports store with sufficient room to stow four personal watercraft, diving gear, and two 8.5-meter tenders. Large side-opening hatches and substantial beam cranes make tender deployment as simple as pushing a button. Emphasis has been given to outdoor living, dining, and lounging in optionally protected areas. The sun deck features a hot tub, wet-feet bar, jet-stream pool, enclosed sky gym, and alfresco dining for twelve. The bridge level has an equally large afterdeck with dining for twelve as well, adjoining the dramatic sky lounge. Forward of the wheelhouse is a cozy breakfast nook with sun beds. In or out of the breeze, alfresco life aboard is pure joy.

10 G E N E R A L A R R A N G E M E N T T H E N E W L I F E S T Y L E The LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 General Arrangement has been planned with regal spaciousness and total contentment in mind for owners and guests to enjoy the ideal lifestyle afloat. The full-width owners suite with de luxe bath, dressing room, and office is set forward on the main deck for absolute privacy. The large main galley is amidships, linked to the saloon and window-surrounded main dining room. Below, on the accommodations deck, are four large guest suites. The two aft are planned as full doubles; the two forward are offered either as large twin-berthed suites, or by removal of a central bulkhead a third, full-beam VIP suite. Forward are 120-square-meter quarters for 15 to 18 crew in 10 cabins (a unique four-person staff cabin is on the tank deck). A central elevator serves guests between the lower deck and sun deck, in parallel with a spiral staircase serving all decks. A dedicated stairway allows crew to move independently from tank to bridge deck. External stairways aft give guests access to all levels, from the swim platform to sun deck. Among the most unusual features of the AMELS 212 are a number of very large plush outdoor lounge sofas and the pair of magnificent VIP suites set comfortably amidships on the bridge deck. Each of these has a balcon Parisien that opens the interior to fresh sea air and unlimited sea views.

Indeed, in designing for exclusive appeal to knowledgeable clients Andrew Winch s philosophy dovetails ideally with Tim Heywood s. As Winch so clearly expresses it: I design first what I think is beautiful, so that clients will respond to it. I want them to embrace what I have drawn, to feel excited by it, and to recognize instantly that they can live happily in the saloon or in the master suite just as I have created it. Like a high-fashion designer who knows generally what the market wants, but who does not yet know who his clients are, Winch used the design of the LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 as a golden opportunity for originality, dynamism, and above all flexibility. I wrote my own brief, he says, for something individual that cannot be found anywhere else. It is strong yet moderate to appeal to many tastes.

14 F L E X I B I L I T Y T H E N E W T H E M E Within the existing architecture as seen by Heywood and Amels, Andrew Winch s interior design is in absolute keeping with the LIMITED EDITIONS guiding philosophy: reduce production time to deliver to clients the yacht they desire in a much shorter time. While that architecture is essentially fixed, the key word here is flexibility, as the LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 style can be adjusted in significant ways to meet any client s taste. Winch s basic design comes alive in its many details, but it is unified throughout the central luxury areas by an array of interconnecting overhead arches that run fore-and-aft as well as athwartship, and which surround their respective spaces to suggest anything from a cathedral to a comforting cocoon, depending upon the style chosen by the client. Still, Winch s layout and shaping allow for other wider client choices to convert the preset general arrangement into a personal, private home afloat. Within a framework of such artistic adaptability, Winch sees his design as encouraging clients to choose among a wide variety of moods and materials. But each client has a wide choice of that wood the design readily accepts and adapts to various tones, grains, and finishes that can range from dark and formal to light and casual; from high-gloss markassa to pale oak or golden maple; from pristine varnish to distressed façades. Winch happily reminds clients, however, that the almost boundless adaptability of his design remains well within the spirit of the LIMITED EDITIONS time-saving philosophy. Once a client has made the critical choice of wood, the overall design allows for that wood to be accommodated and installed without the necessity of any additional drawing time and cost. Of course beyond wood, the design leaves wide stylistic leeway for clients to further customize their lifestyle by choosing furniture, carpets, lighting, and other personal elements. Once the choices are made Amels will do the rest, and in short order.

This is surely exemplified by the shape, structure, and internal-external reality of the two wonderful bridge-deck VIP suites. Heywood has surrounded them by full-height windows for magnificent views and the enjoyment of every warm possibility of a sunny day. Winch has prescribed the alluring French balconies, which give guests the option of facing the world outside in comfort, and he has also suggested a Matisse-like mural to add color to life below. But that color can be provided by each client s artistic choice, according to that client s own taste and passion. Surely, then, the power of imagination to create a fine, ultimately splendid, private yacht does not belong to Andrew Winch and Tim Heywood alone. The concept of the LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 212 invites and encourages clients to liberate their own imaginations from any mundane inhibition, and to participate fully in designing what Le Corbusier called a machine for living in, one that is totally worthy of their desires.

The exterior is designed by Tim Heywood. The interior is by Andrew Winch. It consists of three accommodations decks and a large sundeck. The general arrangement allows great variety in the use of the yacht, providing luxury owner and guest accommodations, dining, large outdoor areas, generous stowage for watersports and diving equipment, whirlpool bath, swimming pool, gymnasium at sundeck and much more.
