2 A N f = twisted determination of te b-quark mass, f B and f Bs. Introduction Te study of pysical processes involving te b quark are of utmost importance for accurate tests of te Standard Model (SM and for searcing New Pysics (NP effects. In spite of te great success of te SM in describing te observed processes, te SM presents te unsatisfactory aspect of aving several parameters wit unpredicted values. In te quark sector only, tese are te six quark masses and te four parameters of te Cabibbo-Kobayasi-Maskawa (CKM matrix. Quark masses are naturally expected to be of te order of te Higgs boson s vacuum expectation value (VEV, but, except for te top mass, tey are found to be several orders of magnitude smaller tan expected. Furtermore quark masses sow a ierarcy wose origin is not understood. In order to unravel tese aspects we need accurate values of te quark masses tat can be calculated using Lattice QCD. Oter pysical quantities of interest are te decay constants tat allow us to extract te CKM elements using experimental results, and also to probe NP. In particular, in B-pysics, te teoretical predictions for te two NP-sensitive processes B τν and B 0 s µ + µ require a precise knowledge of te pseudoscalar (PS decay constants f B and f Bs, respectively. In tis contribution we report te results for te b quark mass m b and for te f B and f Bs decay constants (as well as for teir ratio f Bs / f B obtained adopting Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist [] and using te gauge configurations produced by European Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC wit N f = 2++ dynamical sea quarks [2]. In order to deal wit eavy mesons on te lattice we used smeared interpolating operators and we performed an extrapolation in te eavy quark mass from te carm to te b-quark region, using te ratio metod of ref. [3]. Furter details of te analysis procedure can be found in refs. [4, 5, 6]. 2. Simulation details and lattice set up We ave used te N f = gauge configurations generated by ETMC [2] at tree values of te lattice spacing corresponding to β = {.90,.95, 2.0}. Subsets of well-separated trajectories were selected to avoid autocorrelations. Bare quark masses are cosen so tat te pion mass, extrapolated to te continuum and infinite volume limits, range from 20 to 440 MeV. In [7] we ave determined te lattice spacing a and te pysical ligt m u/d and strange m s quark masses. Since tose results were not available at te time of te present analysis, we ave used te following preliminary results: a = {0.0886(27,0.085(2,0.069(} fm, m u/d = 3.7( GeV and m s = 00(3 MeV in te MS sceme at 2 GeV. In te calculation of PS eavy-ligt meson masses we used smeared and optimized interpolating fields as described in [4] in order to keep te noise-to-signal ratio under control. Te optimal fields are a linear superposition of smeared and local fields and are determined by tuning te coefficients of te combination numerically. Te smearing tecnique and te optimal fields reduce te overlap of te interpolating field wit te excited states and allow to extract meson masses at relatively small Euclidean time. For te decay constants we used only te smearing tecnique because all te sink/source combinations of smeared and local fields necessary for te optimal operators were not available. Te results for f B and f Bs will be updated once tese data will be produced. 2
3 A N f = twisted determination of te b-quark mass, f B and f Bs Renormalized quark masses µ are obtained from te bare ones µ using te renormalization constant (RC Z µ = ZP calculated in te RI-MOM sceme wit two metods, labelled as M and M2 (see ref. [8], wic differ by O(a 2 effects. Te difference in te results obtained in te continuum limit is used to estimate te systematic uncertainty related to te RC Z P. 3. Te b-quark mass Te b-quark mass is calculated using te ratio metod of ref. [3]. Te first step consists in considering an appropriate sequence of eavy-quark masses ( µ (, µ(2,..., µ(n wit fixed ratio λ between any two successive values µ (n = λ µ (n. Te ratio λ is cosen in suc a way tat after a finite number of steps te eavy-ligt PS meson mass assumes te experimental value M B = GeV. Te Heavy Quark Effective Teory (HQET suggests te following asymptotic beaviour lim µ pole ( M l µ pole = constant, (3. were M l is te eavy-ligt PS meson mass and µ pole is te eavy-quark pole mass. Te latter is related to te (renormalized eavy-quark mass µ, given in te MS sceme, by µ pole = ρ( µ,ν µ (ν wit ν being te renormalization scale. Te function ρ( µ,ν is known up to N 3 LO in perturbation teory (PT. Tus we defined te ratios y( µ,λ;,a 2 as y( µ,λ;,a 2 = M l( µ (n µ (npole µ (n pole M l ( µ (n (n = λ M l( µ M l ( µ (n /λ ρ( µ (n /λ,ν ρ( µ (n,ν, (3.2 were is te ligt quark mass. We calculated te ciral and continuum extrapolation y( µ y( µ,λ; µ u/d,a 2 = 0 by performing a simultaneous fit in te ligt quark mass and in te lattice spacing for eac value of µ. We considered a linear dependence on and a 2, accounting for te automatic O(a improvement of te twisted mass action at maximal twist. Te result of te fit at te largest value of te eavy-quark mass is reported in fig. (a. Using eq. (3. te ratio y( µ as an exactly known static limit, namely: lim µ y( µ =, so tat te dependence of te ratio y( µ on te eavy-quark mass µ can be written as y( µ = + η µ + η 2 µ 2. (3.3 Te corresponding fit of te lattice data is presented in fig. (b. Finally te value for te b-quark mass is computed from te cain equation y( µ (2 y( µ(3...y( µ(k+ = λ K M,u/d( µ (K+ M,u/d ( µ ( [ ( ρ( µ,ν ] ρ( µ (K+, (3.4,ν were te values for λ, K and µ ( are cosen in suc a way tat M,u/d ( µ (K+ is equal to te experimental value of te B meson mass. In eq. (3.4 te quantity M,u/d ( µ ( is te result of te combined ciral and continuum fit of te PS meson mass evaluated at te reference eavy quark mass µ (. We found ( µ(,λ,k = (.4 GeV,.644,0 from wic te b-quark mass µ b = 3

Te vertical line represents te location of te inverse b-quark mass / µ b. λ K µ (, in te MS sceme at ν = 2 GeV, resulted to be µ b = 5.22(0GeV, were te error comes from te statistical uncertainties of te lattice data, te fitting error and te statistical uncertainties on te lattice spacing and te renormalization constant of te metod M. Using te set of RCs from te metod M2 we obtained a result for µ b lower by 3%. We took te average of te two results and we considered alf of te difference as te systematic uncertainty due to te RCs. Evolving from 2GeV to m b using Λ N f =4 QCD = 296MeV (see [4] and references terein, we obtain m b (m b = 4.29(8(5(9GeV = 4.29(3GeV, (3.5 were te first error is te statistical+fitting error, te second and te tird ones are te systematic uncertainties on te renormalization constants and lattice spacing, respectively. Te estimate of te latter uncertainty is still preliminary. Te total error is te sum in quadrature of te uncertainties. Our result (3.5 is well compatible wit te one found wit N f = 2 [4, 9], indicating tat te effect of te strange and carm sea quarks is not visible at te present level of accuracy. 4. Decay constants We used a similar strategy for te calculation of te decay constant f Bs and te ratio f Bs / f B, from wic we obtained f B. We considered te HQET predictions: lim µ pole f s µ pole = constant and lim µ pole ( f s/ f l = constant, were f s ( f l is te eavy-strange(ligt PS meson decay constant. We defined te ratios z d ( µ,λ;,a 2 = λ f l( µ,,a 2 f l ( µ /λ,,a 2 Cstat A (ν, µ /λ ρ( µ,ν /2 CA stat, (4. 5 A N f = twisted determination of te b-quark mass, f B and f Bs were te factor CA stat (ν, µ, known up to N 2 LO in PT, provides te matcing between te decay constant in QCD and its static-ligt counterpart in HQET (te arbitrary renormalization scale ν of HQET cancels out in te ratio. From eqs. ( we form te double ratio ζ ( µ,λ;, µ s,a 2 = z s( µ,λ;, µ s,a 2 z d ( µ,λ;,a 2. (4.3 By construction te ratios z d, z s and ζ ave an exactly known static limit equal to unity. Tey exibit a smoot ciral and continuum beavior, as sown in fig. 2 at our largest eavy-quark mass. As mentioned before, in tis case we couldn t use te optimized interpolating operators, so tat we considered data up to te mass µ (5, because te signals for bot te PS meson masses and te decay constants corresponding to eavier values of µ were too noisy. f s (µ (5 /fs (µ ( =.90, V=32 3 x64 =.90, V=24 3 x48 =.95, V=32 3 x64 =.95, V=24 3 x48 =2.0, V=48 3 x96 Continuum Limit (GeV (a z s (µ (5 /zd (µ ( =.90, V=32 3 x64 =.90, V=24 3 x48 =.95, V=32 3 x64 =.95, V=24 3 x48 =2.0, V=48 3 x96 Continuum Limit (GeV (b Figure 2: Ciral and continuum fit of te ratio of te decay constant (a and of te double ratio (b for our largest values of te eavy-quark mass as a function of. A linear fit bot in and a 2 as been adopted. Te results for f Bs and f Bs / f B are determined from te cain equations z s ( µ (2 z s( µ (3... z s( µ (K+ = λ K/2 f s( µ (K+ CA stat f s ( µ ( (ν, µ ( CA stat (ν, µ (K+ ρ( µ(k+,ν ρ( µ (, (4.4,ν ζ ( µ (2 ζ ( µ(3... ζ ( µ(k+ = λ K/2 f s( µ (K+ / f u/d ( µ (K+ f s ( µ ( / f u/d( µ (, (4.5 were µ (, λ and K are te values found in te b-quark mass analysis and z s( µ (n and ζ ( µ(n are calculated after te ciral and continuum extrapolations. For te decay constant ratio f s / f l eavy meson ciral perturbation teory (HMCPT predicts at NLO a linear+logaritmic dependence on te ligt quark mass. We took advantage of te fact tat te double ratio of te decay constants R f = [( f s / f l /( f sl / f ll ] (4.6 exibits a large cancellation of te ciral logs. Tus we extrapolated te quantity (4.6 to te ciral and continuum limits, and by using te result f K / f π =.93(6 from [0] we extracted te ratio 5
6 A N f = twisted determination of te b-quark mass, f B and f Bs f Bs / f B. For te ciral extrapolation we used eiter a linear fit or te one suggested by combining SU(2 CPT and HMCPT, namely: Lin.: R f = a ( + b ( + D ( [ HMCPT: R f = a (2 + b (2 + a2, [ 3(+3ĝ ] ( ] 2B0 log 2B0 + D (2 (4π f 0 2 (4π f 0 2 a2, (4.7 were ĝ = 0.6(7 (see [4] and references terein. (4.7. fig. 3, were it can clearly be seen tat te two values of R f at te pysical pion point are compatible witin te errors. We took teir average as our final result and we considered alf of teir difference as a systematic uncertainty. Finally we performed a fit of te ratio (4.2 and of te te double ratio (4.3 using te same functional form as in eq. (3.3 in te inverse eavy-quark mass. Te results are illustrated in fig. 4. At te pysical point in te isospin symmetric limit we obtain z s (µ z s /z d /µ (GeV - (a /µ (GeV - (b Figure 4: Heavy quark mass dependence of te ratio z s and of te double ratio z s /z d. Te systematic uncertainty due to te RCs turns out to be negligible. Our results ( obtained wit N f = are consistent wit te FLAG averages [] corresponding to bot N f = 2 and N f = 2 +. Notice te remarkable results for te double ratios (4.8 and (4.9, wic imply tat SU(3 breaking effects in te ratio of PS meson decay constants are te same in te ligt, carm and bottom sectors witin a percent accuracy.
