A NOTE ON p-adic INVARIANT INTEGRAL IN THE RINGS OF p-adic INTEGERS ariv:math/ v1 [math.nt] 5 Jun 2006 Taekyun Kim Jangjeon Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Physics, Hapcheon-Dong Hapcheon-Gun Kyungnam, , S. Korea tkim@kongju.ac.kr/ tkim64@hanmail.net Abstract. In [2], I constructed the p-adic q-integral I q (f) on. In this paper, we consider the properties of lim q 1 I q (f) = I 1 (f). Finally we give the some applications of I 1 (f) and integral equations for I 1 (f). These properties are useful and worthwhile to study Euler numbers and polynomials. 1. Introduction Let p be a fixed odd prime. Throughout, Q p and C p will respectively denote the rings of p-adic integers, the fields of p-adic numbers and the completion of of the algebraic closure of Q p. For d a fixed positive integer with (p, d) = 1, let = d = lim N Z/dp N, 1 =, = 0<a<dp (a,p)=1 a + dp, a + dp N = {x x a (mod dp N )}, where a Z lies in 0 a < dp N, (cf. [1], [2]) Mathematics Subject Classification. 11S80. Key words and phrases. p-adic invariant integral, q-volkenborn integral. 1 Typeset by AMS-TE
2 The p-adic absolute value in C p is normalized so that p p = 1 p. Let q be variously considered as an indeterminate a complex number q C, or a p-adic number q C p. If q C p, we assume q 1 p < 1 for x p 1. Throughout this paper, we use the following notation : [x] q = [x : q] = 1 qx 1 q = 1 + q + q2 + + q x 1. We say that f is uniformly differentiable function at a point a and denote this property by f UD( ) if the difference quotients f(x) f(y) F f (x, y) =, x y have a limit l = f (a) as (x, y) (a, a), cf. [1, 2]. For f UD( ), let us start with the expression 1 [p N ] q 0 j<p N q i f(j) = 0 j<p N f(j)µ q (j + p N ), cf. [1, 2], representing q-analogue of Riemann sums for f. The integral of f on will be defined as limit (n ) of these sums, when it exists. An invariant p-adic q-integral of a function f UD( ) on is defined by I q (f) = f(x)dµ q (x) = f(x)dµ q (x) = lim N 1 [p N ] q Note that if f n f in UD( ); then f n (x)dµ q (x) f(x)dµ q (x). The classical Euler polynomials are defined by F(t, x) = 2 e t + 1 ext = E n (x) tn n!. 0 j<p N f(j)q j, see [2]. Note that E n = E n (0) are called n-th Euler numbers. In [3], an analogue of Bernoulli t number is defined by we t 1 = B n(w) tn n!, where w is the element of locally constant functions space [3]. For f UD( ), we define a p-adic invariant integral on as follows: I 1 (f) = lim I q(f) = f(x)dµ 1 (x). q 1 The purpose of this paper is to give the integral equations related to I 1 (f) and to investigate some properties for I 1 (f). From these integral equations, we derive the interesting formuae related to Euler numbers.
3 2. p-adic invariant integrals on For f UD( ), the p-adic q-integral was defined by (1) 1 I q (f) = lim q x f(x) = lim f(x)µ N [p N q (x+p N ) = f(x)dµ q (x), ] q N 0 x<p N 0 x<p N representing p-adic q-analogue of Riemann integral for f (see [2]). In the meaning of fermionic, we now define I 1 (f)-integral as (2) I 1 (f) = lim I q(f) = lim f(x)dµ q (x) = f(x)dµ 1 (x). q 1 q 1 From (2), we derive the below Eq.(3): p N 1 (3) I 1 (f) = f(x)dµ 1 (x) = lim ( 1) x f(x). Z N p Let f 1 (x) = f(x + 1). Then we note that x=0 p N 1 I 1 (f 1 ) = lim f(x)( 1) x + 2f(0) = I 1 (f) + 2f(0). N x=0 Therefore we obtain the below theorem: Theorem 1. For f UD( ), we have (4) I 1 (f 1 ) + I 1 (f) = 2f(0), where f 1 (x) is translation with f 1 (x) = f(x + 1). From Theorem 1, we can derive the below theorem: Theorem 2. For f UD( ), n N, we have where f n (x) = f(x + n). n 1 I 1 (f n ) + ( 1) n 1 I 1 (f) = 2 f(x)( 1) n 1 x, x=0
4 By using Theorem 1 and Theorem 2, we can consider the new extension of Euler numbers and polynomials. If we take f(x) = λ x e xt, (λ ), then we have (5) 2 λe t + 1 = λ x e xt dµ 1 (x). Define the new extension of Euler numbers as follows: (6) 2 λe t + 1 = E n (λ) tn n!. By (5) and (6), we obtain the below theorm: Theorem 3. ( Witt s formula ) For n N, we have λ x x n dµ 1 (x) = E n (λ), λ, where E n (λ) are called analog of Euler numbers. By using I 1 -integral, we define the new extension of classical Euler polynomials as follows: (7) From (7), we can derive the below: (8) E n (λ : x) = k=0 where f is odd positive integer. By (8), we easily see that λ y (x + y) n dµ 1 (y) = E n (λ : x). n ( f 1 n )E n (λ)x n k = f n ( 1) a λ a E n (λ f : x + a ), k f a=0 (9) 2e xt λe t + 1 = e (x+y)t dµ 1 (y) = 2 f 1 a=0 ( 1)a λ a e (x+a)t. λ f e ft + 1
5 Remark 1. In [3], it was known that (9-1) lim w q 1 y e (x+y)t dµ q (t) = text we t 1 = m=0 B m (w) tm m!, where B m (w) are called an analogue of Bernoulli numbers. In the viewpoint of (9-1), we gave the new extension (E n (λ)) of classical Euler number. Remark 2. From using multivariate p-adic invariant integral for I 1 (f), we can easily derive the Euler polynomials of higher order as follows: ( ) r e Z xt λ y 1+ +y r e (y 1+ +y r 2 )t dµ 1 (y 1 ) dµ 1 (y r ) = e xt. p λe t + 1 From this, we can define the extension of classical Euler polynomials of order r as follows: ( ) r 2 λe t e xt = E n (r) (λ : x). + 1 Let χ be the Dirichlet s character with conductor f(= odd) N and let us take f(x) = χ(x)e tx. From Theorem 2, we derive the below formula: (10) e tx χ(x)dµ 1 (x) = 2 f 1 a=0 eta ( 1) a χ(a) e ft. + 1 The generalized Euler numbers attached to χ were defined by (11) 2 f 1 a=0 eta ( 1) a χ(a) e ft + 1 = t n E n,χ, cf. [4]. n! From (10) and (11), we derive the below Witt s formula for the generalized Euler numbers attache to χ as follows: Theorem 4. Let f be an odd positive integer and let χ be the Dirichlet s character with conductor f. Then we have x n χ(x)dµ 1 (x) = E n,χ.
