7 Indian Standard SPECIFICATION FOR WALLET, LEATHER IS : FOREWORD 0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 24 March 1987, after the draft finalized by the Travel Requisites Sectional Committee had been approved by the Consumer Products and Medical Instruments Division Council. 0.2 In the preparation of this standard due weightage has been given to the proper type of materials to be used and prevalent trade practices being followed by the manufacturers in this field. 0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : *. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. 1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard covers requirements for leather wallet. 2. SHAPE, DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS 2.1 The wallet shall be manufactured to the shape, design and dimensions as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier. A typical design is, however, shown in Fig A deviation of &Z s percent shall be allowed on all dimensions in Fig MATERIALS 3.1 Body - Suitable vegetable, chrome or combination tanned sheep, cow or young buffalo leather shall be used for the manufacture of the wallet. 3.2 Sewing Thread - Cotton sewing thread conforming to variety No. 5, 14 or 19 of IS : t shall b e used for stitching the wallet. *Rules for rounding off numerical values ( mid ). tspecification for cotton sewing threads ( second 3 reuision ).

9 IS: WORKMANSHIP AND FINISH 4.1 The stitching shall be single row stitch with 28 to 32 stitches per decimetre of even tension. The loose ends of the thread shall be trimmed. 4.2 The wallet shall be soundly constructed and finished smooth without any constructional defects. 4.3 In respect of appearance, general workmanship and finish, the wallet shall conform to the sample previously approved by the buyer. 5. SAMPLING 5.1 Unless otherwise agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier, the procedure given in 1s : 2500 ( Part 1 )-1973 shall be followed for sampling. The sampling plan and the inspection level as given in 5.2 and 5.3 shall be followed. 5.2 The scale of sampling shall correspond to Inspection Level III given in Table 1 of IS : 2500 ( Part 1 )-1973* for all the requirements mentioned in this specification. 5.3 The sampling plan shall correspond to AQL plans of 4 0 percent given in Table 2 of IS : 2500 ( Part 1 )-1973*. 6. MARKING 6.1 Each wallet shall be legibly marked with the manufacturer s name or trade-mark and batch number Each wallet may also be marked with the Standard Mark. NOTE - The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Blrreau of Indian Standards Act 1986 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The Standard Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the asurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by BIS and operated bv the producer. Standard marked products are also continuously checked by BIS for conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence for the use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards. 7.
