DLEP - Physics motivation β-decays of exotic nuclei Dedicated effort for Detection of Low Energy Particles
Task & deliverables Detector and electronic developments for Low energy multi particle break-up studies Miguel Madurga, IEM-CSIC Algorithms for digital particle identification T. Persson, Goteborg (next talk) S. Wranne, Goteborg (poster)
β-decay experiments Segmented Si-Detectors Large Solid Angle detect all particles High Segmentation no summing ISOL beam Low energy isotope separated beam Can be stopped in C-foil Well-defined source
Detectors - monolithic Si telescope E E 64 detector elements á 7 mm readout channels multiplexed to 1 ADC. E stage 1 µm E stage 400 ± 15 µm 50 kev 256 detector elements á 9 mm 2 32 readout channels Solid Angle 20% of the DSSSD
Detector delivered August monolithic telescopes 128ch on 5x5cm 2 Area 64x 7mm 2, E 1µm, E 400 µm Side view with connectors
Electronics Challenge: Coincidence detection + high segmentation lots of electronics, small experiments getting more complicated. Aim: flexible, cost effective, standalone systems. Development under EURONS together with our associated company Mesytec. Hardware paid by the Wallenberg Foundation (Sweden)
Complete readout electronic 64 ch: PA + TFA + discriminator + A + trigger Analogue & multiplexed 16 channel cards, individually 0.5 litre optimized for detectors capacitance. Low power consumption (cards can be placed in vacuum). 4x 16ch cards
Complete readout electronic High quality 12 bit (4k) conversion with sliding scale ADC (DNL < 1%). 10 M samples / s per bus. Up to 512 channels can be converted Multi event buffer Supports different types of time stamping Connected frontend modules can be remote controled (gain, threshold, polarity). Multicast for event reset and timestamping start. MDI-2 VME sequencer and ADC handles 512 multiplexed channels
Monitor output 80 µs deadtime Incorporated into MIDAS daq system in combination with standard ADC s and TDC s. Cost-effective, ready-to-use compact system, 500 channels into one VME module. Outreach: now made comercially Present development together with TUM: Adapt to the LAPD read-out of the R3B calorimeter; Temperature & voltage control, logarithmic amplifiers for large dynamic range ( 30 MeV γ, 300 MeV protons).
