ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES ON TUBE TYPE DOMAINS arxiv: v2 [math.fa] 23 Jan 2018 JENS GERLACH CHRISTENSEN Abstract. We use the author s revious work on atomic decomositions of Besov saces with sectrum on symmetric cones, to derive new atomic decomositions for Bergman saces on tube tye domains. It is related to work by Ricci and Taibleson who derived decomositions for classical Besov saces from atomic decomositions of Bergman saces on the uer half lane. Moreover, for this class of domains our method is an alternative to classical results by Coifman and Rochberg, and it works for a larger range of Bergman saces. 1. Introduction In this aer we suggest a new aroach to atomic decomositions for the Bergman saces on tube tye domains. Atomic decomositions have reviously been obtained for the uer half lane (unit disc) in [20, 8, 19], and for the unit ball [21, 7] as well as other bounded symmetric domains [10, 17]. These decomositions have tyically been attained by investigating oscillations of the Bergman kernel and in most cases the atoms are samles of the Bergman kernel. In the case of the unit ball such oscillations can be estimated for all arameters, but for higher rank saces it is more comlicated. The issue is connected to the question of boundedness of the Bergman rojection on bounded symmetric domains, which is still an oen roblem. Advances to answer this roblem have recently been made in the case of tube tye domains in [1, 11] and for general domains in [18]. In the case of tube tye domains over forward light cones the roblem is now solved [5]. In this aer we will concentrate on tube tye domains, and we use Fourier- Lalace extensions to transfer known atomic decomositions for Besov saces [6] to Bergman saces. This allows us to narrow the ga in the atomic decomositions from [10] in the case of tube tye domains. Moreover, these decomositions are for mixed norm Bergman saces which have not reviously been dealt with. We would like to mention that this work seems to be in the reverse direction of the aer [20] which uses atomic decomositions for the mixed norm Bergman saces on the uer half lane to get atomic decomositions for the Besov saces. See also [15] for related work for Bergman saces on the unit ball in relation to Besov saces on the Heisenberg grou. 2. Symmetric cones For an introduction to symmetric cones we refer to the book [13]. Let V be a Euclidean vector sace over the real numbers of finite dimension n. A subset Ω of 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification. 32A36,41A65. 1
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 2 V is a cone if λω Ω for all λ > 0. Assume Ω is oen and convex, and define the oen dual cone Ω by Ω = {y V (x,y) > 0 for all non-zero x Ω}. The cone Ω is called symmetric if Ω = Ω, and the automorhism grou G(Ω) = {g GL(V) gω = Ω} acts transitively on Ω. Notice that the grou G(Ω) is semisimle. Define the characteristic function of Ω by ϕ(x) = e (x,y) dy, Ω then ϕ(gx) = det(g) 1 ϕ(x). Also, f f(x)ϕ(x) dx (1) Ω defines a G(Ω)-invariant measure on Ω. The connected comonent G 0 (Ω) of G(Ω) has Iwasawa decomosition G 0 (Ω) = KAN where K = G 0 (Ω) O(V) is comact, A is abelian and N is nilotent. The unique fixed oint in Ω for the maing x logϕ(x) will be denoted e, and we note that K fixes e. The connected solvable subgrou H = AN of G 0 (Ω) acts simly transitively on Ω and the integral (1) thus also defines the left-haar measure on H. Denote by S(V) the sace of raidly decreasing smooth functions with toology induced by the semi-norms f k = su α k x V su α f(x) (1+ x ) k. Here α is a multi-index, α denotes usual artial derivatives of functions, and k 0 is an integer. For f S(V) the Fourier transform is defined by 1 f(w) = f(x)e i(x,w) dx for w V. (2π) n/2 The convolution of functions f,g S(V) satisfies V f g(x) = V f(y)g(x y)dy f g(w) = f(w)ĝ(w). The sace S (V) of temered distributions is the linear dual of S(V). For functions on V define τ x f(y) = f(y x), f (y) = f( y) and f (y) = f( y). Convolution of f S (V) and φ S(V) is defined by f φ(x) = f(τ x φ ). As usual, the Fourier transform extends to temered distributions by duality. The sace of raidly decreasing smooth functions with Fourier transform vanishing on Ω is denoted S Ω. It is a closed subsace of S(V) and will be equied with the subsace toology. The sace V can be equied with a Jordan algebra structure such that Ω is identified with the set of all squares. This gives rise to the notion of a determinant
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 3 (x). We only need the fact that the determinant is related to the characteristic function ϕ by ϕ(x) = ϕ(e) (x) n/r, where R denotes the rank of the cone. If x = ge we have (x) = (ge) = Det(g) R/n. (2) 3. Besov saces related to symmetric cones The cone Ω can be identified as a Riemannian manifold Ω = G 0 (Ω)/K where K is the comact grou fixing e. The Riemannian metric in this case is defined by u,v y = (g 1 u,g 1 v) for u,v tangent vectors to Ω at y = ge. Denote the balls of radius δ centered at x by B δ (x). For δ > 0 and λ 2 the oints {x j } are called a (δ,λ)-lattice if (1) {B δ (x j )} are disjoint, and (2) {B λδ (x j )} cover Ω. We nowfix a(δ,λ)-lattice {x j }with δ = 1/2and λ = 2. Then therearefunctions ψ j S Ω, such that 0 ψ j 1, su( ψ j ) B 2 (x j ), ψj is one on B 1/2 (x j ) and ψ j j = 1 on Ω. Using this decomosition of the cone, the Besov sace norm for 1 < and R is defined in [1] by f B = j (x j ) f ψ j q The Besov sace B consists of the equivalence classes of temered distributions f in (S Ω ) {f S (V) su( f) Ω}/S Ω for which f Bs <. Define the index q, = +n/r 1 (n/r ) 1 if n/r > and set q, = if n/r. The following results from [1] states when the Besov saces are included in the sace of temered distributions S (V). Lemma 3.1. Let > 0, 1 < and 1 q < q,. Then for every f B the series j f ψ j converges in the sace S (V), and the corresondence 1/q. f +S Ω f = j f ψ j is continuous, injective and does not deend on the articular choice of {ψ j }. The main result from [6] is that the quasiregular reresentation of the grou H V can be used to obtain atomic decomositions for these Besov saces. We summarize the result in Theorem 3.2. Let ψ in S Ω be such that ψ is comactly suorted. Then there is an index set I, a set {(h i,x i )} i I H V, a Banach sequence sace b (I), a set of continuous functionals {c i : B C} i I, and a constant C > 0 such that (1) f(x) = i I c 1 i(f) ψ(h 1 det(hi) i (x x i )) with convergence in norm in B (2) c i (f) b C f B
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 4 (3) if {λ i } b then f(x) = i λ i 1 det(hi ) ψ(h 1 i (x x i )) is in B and f B C {λ i } b. Remark 3.3. At this stage it is aroriate to describe the sequence of oints {(h i,x i )} i I and the sequence sace b in some detail. For this one chooses a covering {U i } i I of the sace Ω V. This covering is chosen such that each U i is a translate of a fixed relatively comact neighbourhood U of {e} {0} by some element (h i,x i ) of the semidirect roduct H V. Moreover, the sets U i have the finite overlaing roerty, that is, there is an N such that each set U i overla at most N others. A sequence {λ i } is in b if ( q/ 1/q {λ i } b := λ i 1 Ui (x,t) dt) (x) qn/(2r) n/r dx Ω V i I is finite. If = q this is a n/(2r) n/r -weighted l -sace. 4. Bergman saces on tube tye domains. In this section we introduce the Bergman saces on the tube tye domains, and describe the isomorhism between a range of Besov saces and Bergman saces. Let T = {z = x + iy x V,y Ω} be the tube tye domain related to the symmetric cone Ω. For 1 < and > 0 define the weighted Lebesgue sace on the tube tye domain to consist of the equivalence classes of measurable functions on Ω for which the norm ( ( ) q/ 1/q F L := F(x+iy) dx) n/r (y)dy L Ω V is finite. Here dx and dy denote the usual Lebesgue measures on V and Ω. The mixed norm BergmansaceA on Ω consistsofthe holomorhicfunctions in L. It is well-known that this is a reroducing kernel Banach sace, that is, for every z T the maing F F(z) is continuous from A to C. The secial case = q = 2 and = n/r is the usual Bergman sace and the reroducing kernel in this case is ( ) 2n/r z w B(z,w) = B n/r (z,w) = c(), i which will be called the Bergman kernel. Following [1] we now define the Fourier-Lalace extensions of elements in the Besov saces. This extension only works for Besov saces which can be naturally imbedded in the usual sace of temered distributions. This introduces a restriction in the range of indices that can be used. We summarize the results from [1] that we need. Define the Fourier-Lalace extension of a temered distribution f whose Fourier transform f is suorted on Ω by Ef = f(w)e iz w dw
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 5 for z T. For 1 q < q, the Besov sace can be indentified with a sace of such distributions, and therefore we can define Ẽf = E j f ψ j for f B. Define the index q, = min(, ) +n/r 1 n/r 1 when n > R and set q, = when n = 1. Notice that 2 < q, q, so when 1 q < q, all elements of the Besov sace B can be identified with temered distributions whose Fourier-Lalace extensions are in the Bergman sace A. We have Theorem 4.1. If > n/r 1, 1 < and 1 q < q,, then the maing Ẽ : B A is an isomorhism. Moreover, in both S (V) and B. lim F(x+iy) = f(x) y 0 5. Atomic decomosition of Bergman saces In this section we merge the results from [6] and [1] to obtain atomic decomositions for Bergman saces on the tube tye domains. This will give an alternate aroach to the atomic decomositions found in [10]. This new aroach allows for a large class of atoms, and moreover, through the Paley-Wiener theorem the decay roerties of these atoms are quite well known. Note, that the decomosition from [10] uses samles of the Bergman kernel, but the Bergman kernel is not among the ossible atoms with the new aroach. The aer [20] goes in the oosite direction and uses [10] to obtain atomic decomositions the Besov saces. It would of course be interesting to investigate how to comletely align the two methods and to determine exactly which atoms can be moved from the Besov setting and to the Bergman setting. In this aer we are clearly only dealing with a subset of ossible atoms. Let F A decomosed as then f = Ẽ 1 F is in B with equivalent norms and can be f(x) = 1 c i (f) det(hi ) ψ(h 1 i (x x i )). i I Since ψ S 0 with comactly suorted Fourier transform is in every Besov sace, we get ψ i (z) := Ẽ(ψ(h 1 i ( x i )))(z) = Ẽψ(h 1 (z x i )). This results in the following atomic decomositions. Theorem 5.1. Let > n/r 1, 1 < and 1 q < q,. There is a sequence {d i } of functionals and atoms {ψ i } arameterized by aroriate {(h i,x i )} H V such that (1) if F A then F(z) = 1 d i (F) det(hi ) ψ i(z). i I
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 6 where d i (F) = c i (Ẽ 1 F) satisfy that {d i (F)} b (2) and if {d i } b, then is in A and F A F(z) = i I d i 1 det(hi ) ψ i(z). C {d i } b. C F A, Remark 5.2. Notice that for the case of cones of rank 2 (for examle the forward light cones) this theorem can be extended to the larger range 1 q < q, which is the entire range of q for which Lalace extensions can be defined. See [5]. 6. Comarison with revious results and some oen roblems To demonstrate how this work extendeds the range of Bergman saces for which atomic decomositions can be found, we now comare our atomic decomositions toclassicalresultsdueto CoifmanandRochberg[10] inthe secialcaseoftube tye domains. Their results only work for rank one saces, but with minor modifications this issue can be addressed via the Forelli-Rudin estimates from Theorem 4.1 in [12] orcorollaryii.4 in [4]. The latterresultwasused in [3] tocorrectandgeneralizethe atomic decomositions of Coifman and Rochberg to also include two non-symmetric domains. We first summarize the atomic decomsitions from [10, 3]. Let V be an oen convexcone in R m and let F be av-valued Hermitian form onc n. The oen subset of of elements (z,w) in C m C n for which Im(z) F(w,w) V is called a Siegel domain of tye II. The domain is called symmetric if it is also a symmetric sace. Let D be a symmetric Siegel domain of tye II and let B denote the associated Bergman kernel. Coifman and Rochberg use a arametrization of Bergman saces that differs from the one used earlier in this aer. In their notation the Bergman sace à r consists of holomorhic functions for which the following norm is bounded F à r = F(z) B(z,z) r dz. D Theorem 6.1. Let 1 and assume that ǫ D + γ D ( 1) < r <. Given θ > (1 ǫ D )+ǫ D +γ D 2 r there is a lattice {ξ i } in D and a constant C > 0 such that for F in à r we have F(z) = i ( B(z,ξi ) 2 λ i (F) B(ξ i,ξ i ) ) 1+r ( ) θ B(z,ξi ), B(ξ i,ξ i ) and i λ i(f) C F à r. Moreover, if {λ i } l then the series F(z) = i ( B(z,ξi ) 2 ) 1+r λ i B(ξ i,ξ i ) ( )θ B(z,ξi ). B(ξ i,ξ i ) defines a function in à r and F A r C {λ i} l. Remark 6.2. The constants are given by ǫ D = 1/G and γ D = (R 1)a/(2G), where G is the genus and a is another structural constant. See, for examle, [12] for a full exlanation of these constants.
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 7 We will now establish the range of r which work for tube tye domains. The connection between the number from Theorem 5.1 in the secial case of = q and the number r from Theorem 6.1 is = 2nr R + n R. Moreover, the structural constants ǫ D and γ D for tube tye domains are ǫ D = R 2n and γ D = 1 2 ǫ D. With this in mind the conditions > n R rewrite into The result from Theorem 6.1 works for and < +n/r 1 n/r from Theorem 5.1 r > max{ ǫ D, 3 2 +(1 ǫ D)+ǫ D 2 }. r > max{ ǫ D +γ D, 3 2 +(1 ǫ D)}, when restricted to the case θ = 0. Since for tube tye domains over cones ǫ D = R/(2n) 1/2 and 1 we see that the atomic decomositions in Theorem 5.1 work for a larger range than those of Theorem 6.1. Remark 6.3. Thereasonwerestricttotheθ = 0whencomaringthe twomethods is, that the the atomic decomositions rovided by Lalace extensions is connected to the discrete series reresentation of the automorhism grou on the tube tye domain, and we might as well transfer this result to the bounded realization of the domain. Therefore Theorem 5.1 can be transfered to Bergman saces on the bounded symmetric domain. It thus makes sense to comare with the version of Theorem 6.1 which also can be transfered to the bounded realization, that is, θ = 0. We finish this section with a list of oen roblems connected to the results of this aer. Problem 1. The atoms from Theorem 5.1 do not include samles of the Bergman kernel as in [10, 3]. The reason is that the atoms we use are extensions of comactly suorted smooth functions, and by the Paley-Wiener Theorem these cannot include the Bergman kernel. This means that Theorem 5.1 does not include Theorem 6.1 as a secial case. We believe that it is ossible to overcome this issue. The atomic decomositions in [6] build on irreducible, unitary, and integrable grou reresentations, and therefore a much larger class of atoms for the Besov saces can be used via [14]. It would be interesting to see if the Lalace extensions of this larger class of atoms for the Besov saces would include the Bergman kernel in order to obtain Theorem 6.1 as a secial case of Theorem 5.1. This question would be of interest even on the uer half lane. Remark 6.4. Uon comletion of this work the author was made aware of a related aer by D. Békollé, J. Gonessa and C. Nana [2]. They obtain atomic decomositions for the exact same range of Bergman saces. In their work the atoms are indeed samles of the Bergman kernel. Problem 1 thus formulates one ossible aroach to uncovering the connection between their result and the resent aer.
ATOMIC DECOMPOSITIONS OF MIXED NORM BERGMAN SPACES 8 Problem 2. Another way to get a larger set of atoms including samles of the Bergman kernel is to aly the coorbit theory [9] as has been done for the unit ball in [7, 16]. The integral oerator with ositive kernel from Theorem II.7 in [4] which was used to derive Theorem 6.1 would lay a crucial role in this aroach (as it did on the unit ball [7, 16]), so we redict this aroach would work for the same range of arameters as Theorem 6.1. It would be interesting to see if the use of Theorem II.7 in [4] could be avoided or refined in the context of coorbits in order to get to the same range of Bergman saces as in Theorem 5.1. Problem 3. The aroach highlighted in this aer could be used in the setting of the unit ball by using Lalace extensions of Besov saces on the Heisenberg grou mentioned in [15]. It also seems ossible to extend our aroach to all bounded symmetric domains via work in [18]. References [1] D. Békollé, A. Bonami, G. Garrigós, and F. Ricci.
