1 1 BASIC BIBLICAL DOCTRINES WEEK 7 II. Satan And His Angels Does Satan know the future? He knows the Scripture Luke 4:9 12 Matthew 4:5 7 (NKJV) Second Temptation Luke 4: Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: and, He shall give His angels charge over you, In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said to him, It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. He does not believe it. Satan does not know the future with any certainty otherwise he would know that Job would ultimately not curse God. Job 1:9-12 Do you pray out loud? We are never commanded to pray silently although we can if we chose. Pray in private is good but there are many public prayers in Scripture too. It does not matter what Satan knows because God is so infinitely superior to him. Romans 16:20 (NKJV) 20 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. A. Original State of Lucifer II Cor. 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

2 2 * Suggests that we should not be ignorant of his devices. Satan should never be glorified in any way but we are told that all scripture is profitable. Therefore we are going to examine the scriptures that teach us what we need to know about him. Any other method of learning about him would put us in violation of God's will. We are not to attend palm reading, seances or the Satanic church, etc. to learn about Satan. * There are two cases in scripture were a king over a nation is referred to as more than a king. In these cases it is obvious that the scripture is also referring to the god of this world who is over that nation, namely Satan. Lucifer means the morning star or the light bearer. He was to shine forth the light that he had. Ez. 28:11-17 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 12 "Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, `Thus says the Lord GOD: "You [were] the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone [was] your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. 14 "You [were] the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15 You [were] perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. 16 "By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. 17 "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you. 1. He was perfect in comparison to the angels * Model of perfection means that he capped off the creation of the angels. He was the top. The greatest of all created creatures. He has gone from the greatest of angels to the lowest. a. Full in wisdom - v. 12 * Not all wisdom but all that he could hold compared to the other angels. Satan has gone from the wisest of angels to the most foolish. b. Perfect in beauty - v a * Perfect meaning nothing lacking - like a picture that is framed to perfection. He has gone from the most beautiful of angels to the most debased.

3 3 c. Anointed in music - v 13b * This means he was created and consecrated with God blessed musical abilities in all forms of instruments. He has gone from being the leader in praise of God to the leader in blasphemy against God. 2. He was the guardian cherub that was anointed - v. 14a * Satan was of the highest type of angel and the anointing meant that he was the chosen by God. Guardian is an expression of closeness. He is a cherub type angel. He was a covering angel. God doesn't need guarding. He can protect Himself. It meant that he was in the presence of God continually just like the symbols on the mercy seat of the cherubs. 3. The Holy Mountain of God means a place of authority - v. 14b * God established him in a place of responsibility and authority. Mountains usually symbolize earthly authority. He was in the presence of the stones of fire. He may have had the job like the earthly priest was to tend to the coals of the alter and never let them go out because they were the cleansing force that burned away or purified the sin offering. Isn't it amazing that the very job he was commissioned to do, if he had done it would have stopped his own downfall. You are in Bible school. Is it helping you? 4. He was blameless - v. 15a * He had a record of being sinless from the day he was created until the time he fell. He once loved God and goodness! We need to always examine our own lives and just because we are doing great now does not mean we will be doing great later. Satan was perfect until he fell. We stand only by the Grace of God. God did not create Satan evil. * What could anyone wish for? Knowledge? Satan had all he could hold. Beauty? He was the most beautiful. Talent? He was the leader in talent. Recognition? He was chosen by God above all others to be in God's presence. Power? He was in the place of authority. Aside from God Himself there was no one greater in power or importance. What more could anyone want? To be God!! B. The Fallen State of Satan 1. He lost his position and authority

4 4 v. 16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. * He lost his anointing, his beauty, his authority and his ministry. It seems that he marketed himself like Absolom did to David. (widespread trade) Him: Prov. 6: 16 These six [things] the LORD hates, Yes, seven [are] an abomination to 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness [who] speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. 2. His heart was filled with pride v. 17a Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, * His pride came over something that God gave him but he began to focus on the gift rather than the giver. He became self centered instead of others centered. Sometimes beauty and riches can cause our downfall and even more it can shut the door for ministering to others. * Hardship that causes us to be humbled can be an asset rather than a set back. No opposition causes us to be vulnerable. Having less can build us up where having it all causes us to waste away. 3. His focus on his beauty corrupted his use of knowledge v. 17b and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendour. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. * Knowledge is facts revealed where as wisdom is knowledge applied correctly. Satan used his knowledge without wisdom in trying to lift himself to the place of God. Is knowledge what you are seeking out of Bible School? If you want to be wise then obey God and use knowledge with love. Not self love. C. The Rebellion of Satan vs. The Obedience of Christ Isa. 14:12-14 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." 1. You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; - 13a

5 5 * In other words, I will climb to the top of the heap. I will make heaven my domain. I will be in the place of God. In his mind he wanted the most honor and the top reputation. He wanted only his glory to be talked about. He wanted others to be in awe of him. He is too important for others to impose on. 1a. "Let this mind be in you, which was in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation.. " Phil. 2:5-7a * Jesus being God, thought it not something to hold on to but dropped that honor and willingly published or showed himself without reputation. 2. I will raise my throne above the stars of God - v. 13b * The stars of God like the sons of God are usually a reference to angels. Satan doesn't want to be an equal to other angels but he wants to be above them. He wants them to think of him as a god. He wants them to obey his every command and serve his every wish. 2a. ".. and took upon him the form of a servant,.." - Phil. 2:7b Matt. 20:25-28 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." * If God, the creator of all that exists, willingly humbled himself (as a slave) to serve us then shouldn't we do the same if we are to be called by his name? When we come in the name of Christ then we should come to serve. The purpose of our lives is not to climb to the top but to minister at the bottom. 3. I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly - v. 13c * Remember that mountains or a mount symbolizes earthly rule. Not only did Satan want to rule over the angels but he also wanted to rule over the earth and mans affairs. He wanted to take the place of Jesus as the earthly ruler. He despises man and wants to rule over mankind. He would force man to bow. 3a. ".. and was made in the likeness of men:.." - Phil. 7c

6 6 * Jesus does not want to lord over man. He wants man to be in fellowship with him. Because of his great love, he became a man, while fully retaining the fullness of the godhead, so he might bring us closer to himself. He willed Himself to become man in order to gain our respect and love and obedience not demand it which He has the right to do. 4. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; - v. 14a * Clouds are often associated with Gods glory. The children of Israel were led by a cloud of glory and a cloud of glory filled the temple at dedication. Satan wanted to sit in high places or places of importance. He wanted to be above the glory of God. He wanted to show him up so to speak. He wanted to sit in glory. He wanted luxury and ease. 4a. "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." Phil. 2:8 * Jesus wanted to be seen as a man so we could see his heart. He wants us to know that God is not some horrendous egotistical being that demands worship from us but is one who does not even think of himself as unapproachable or above fellowship with man. To show this very thing, he came to serve us with his death, even the very humiliating death of the cross. (beaten, striped, mocked and crucified) 5. I will make myself like the Most High. - v. 14 * The name Most High signifies that he is above every one and every so called god. This is the epitome of Satan's sin and rebellion. He wants to make himself, not like, but he wants to be the Almighty. He wants to do it himself. He thinks he is a self made angel. He has forgotten his creator and has supplanted himself as a god in his mind. He wants his name on the lips of everyone. It's pride at it's most gross level. 5a. "Wherefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth: and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Phil. 2:9-11 * Honor never comes from self promotion. Honor comes from promoting others ahead of yourself. We will never become gods but we will become like Him. God will raise us up and sit us in the heavenly and he has made us heirs to his throne. I don't think we even understand what it means to be the bride of Christ and to be made one with him in completeness on that precious day of the lamb. If our goals are to be of service to

7 7 Jesus than he will lift us up to be with Him. Why is Jesus' name going to be on everyone's lips? Because He earned that respect. Satanic Works Against the Believer (3 main ways) * We have already seen how Satan wants to replace God in every way. He can not do that really because he doesn't have the power to oppose God but he will try to produce a Counterfeit of Gods work. 1. He wants us to doubt the Word of God. - Gen. 3:1, II Cor. 11:3 2 Corinthians 11:3 (NKJV) 3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. * Has God said. He wants us to accept his word. If he can get you to doubt Gods Word then he has just disarmed you from your only method of discerning truth. He has also taken away your most powerful weapon. "The word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth." Psalm 33:4 2. He wants us to doubt the character of God - Gen. 3: 4-5, Job 1

8 8 * He wants us to accept his character and destroy the work of God in our lives. He wants us to take the short cut or easy way out but that only leads us out of the will of God. Satan wants us to think that God does not have our best interest at heart. That is the furthest thing from the truth and an out and out lie. He wants us to believe that God is with holding something good from us. It is just the opposite. "He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord." Psalm 33:5 3. He wants us to become ineffective. - Acts 5:3, 13:10, I Thess. 2:18, 3:5, 1 Thessalonians 2:18 (NKJV) 18 Therefore we wanted to come to you even I, Paul, time and again but Satan hindered us. * He wants to weigh us down with sin or condemn us with sins from our past. He wants to impede our walk and service for God. Resist him and he will flee us. Combat him with the Word of God. "His truth shall be your shield and buckler." Psalm 91:4, 1 Jn 1:9 F. Demons or Evil Angels 1. Demons are followers of Satan Rev. 12:7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. * Demons are fallen angels not pre-adamic races. (Atlantis). 1 Corinthians 15:45 (NKJV) 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. Demons posses the same attributes of the elect angels only they are fallen in nature and character Jude 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 2. The purpose of demons is to a. Oppose the saints Eph. 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

9 9 * It's a war. It's like a fish going upstream. Jas. 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. * We are to resist the devil but flee sin. b. Seduce the saints and teach false doctrines I Tim. 4:1,2 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. * They are seductive. They set carefully planed traps. Money. Health. Ease. Power. They instruct you in false doctrines. 1 Jn. 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NKJV) 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. c. Cause physical afflictions - Mt. 9:32-33, 12:22, Lk. 8:26-35, 13:11-17 Mk. 9:13,22 Matt. 12:22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. 2 Corinthians 12:7 (NKJV) 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. * Demons can cause all kinds of illnesses like dumbness, blindness, Mimic insanity, suicidal tendencies, personal injuries and defects and deformities. Most of which are done through possession. 3. Demon possession a. The nonbeliever - Mt. 8:28, 9:32, 12:22, Mk. 7:25, Lk. 11:14, Acts 8:7, 16:16 Mark 5:1-5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no-one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No-one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. Demon possessed can go to church and be around Christians Demon possessed often are fixated on the dead or the occult or drugs

10 10 Demon possessed can have supernatural strength Demon possessed often have irrational outbursts Demon possessed often are self destructive 1) Our commission and power over it Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; * There is no deliverance ministry but we are granted the power to overcome the gates of hell and to cast out demons in the name of Jesus. No method except that it is done in the authority of Jesus. Sons of Sceeva in Acts (story of Phil in Houston) (Story of man in W. C. sanctuary who had a seizure) *1. only one person talks *2. the others pray *3. don't allow a crowd or interference of nonbelievers b. The Believer - (There is no scriptural evidence showing a Christian being demon possessed just the opposite) Matt 12:29 "Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. Col. 2:13-15 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. 1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. * Story of girl who thought she was demon possessed in West Covina because of her boyfriend. She was on weight loss pills. Problems at the hospital. G. The Destiny of Satan and His Angels 1. He will be cast into the lake of fire - Matt. 25:41 Rev. 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulphur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. * At the white throne judgment, in front of heaven and earth, Satan will bow and confess Jesus is Lord of all.

T., Aliens, Batteries not included, Cocoon, Alien nation, The X-Files, Dark Skies, Independence Day, Earth: The Final Conflict, Star Trek, Alien vs. Predator, War of the Worlds, the list seems endless,. * Since 1950 there has been close to 3 million reported sightings. There are ever increasing groups of channelers who are channeling alien masters who are trying to contact mankind. * Read page 11 in "Something's going on out there" Hoax (President Jimmy Carter has reported seeing a UFO.) * Let's see the evidence III. Occult, Paranormal and U. F. O. Occurrences: Aliens or Demons Close Encounters of the First Kind (CEI) Sighting of a UFO at 500 feet or closer Close Encounters of the Second Kind (CEII) UFOs that leave physical effects on the environment such as landing marks, broken tree limbs, Crop circles, etc. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (CEIII) UFOs with occupants at very close range including landed craft with occupants in or about the craft. Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind (CEIV) Abductions by UFOs where people claim to be involuntarily taken on board a UFO for experimentation, purposes of communication, or other reasons. Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind (CEV) Involve what are termed contactees, those persons who claim to be in personal contact with UFO entities typically through occult means. Close Encounters of the Sixth Kind (CEVI) Include injuries or deaths resulting from a UFO close encounter. The evidence appears more like demons than extraterrestrials. A. There origin is questionable: Before 1950's Moon, Mars, Venus After 1950's Unconfirmable planets * The only evidence of their existence comes from the what is seen in the air and on earth. There have been no sightings by probes or telescopes or sound scopes. This search has been going on for 57 years with 48 extensive searches by seven different

Gordon Creighton Editor Flying Saucer Review that has over 50 experts as contributors and has been published for over 40 years says, There seems to be no evidence yet that any of these craft or beings originate from outer space. (Facts on UFO s and other Supernatural Phenomena). * Satan's domain is the atmosphere and the earth. Eph. 2:1,2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Rev. 2:13 I know where you live--where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city--where Satan lives. B. Their appearance is similar to demons (Fallen angels) 1. Usually spaceships like ovals or circles, (Flying saucers), having many windows, bright lights, and able to move at extremely fast speeds. Their craft also have made ninety-degree turns in an instant traveling at tremendous speeds. * can fallen angels replicate this Ez. 1:4,5,12-21 I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north-- an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was that of a man,... Each one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went. The appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals of fire or like torches. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightning flashed out of it. The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning. As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about as the creatures went. Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around. When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. When the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. understanding of physics a. UFO s do things that aren't possible according to our

13 13 * One witness reported seeing two UFOs heading toward each other at an incredibly high rate of speed. They kept coming and coming. Finally they hit. But there was no explosion. Simply a merging of the two craft into one larger one. Some UFOs have simply vanished. * It is unlikely there is an undiscovered Law of physics that allow these maneuvers without peeling themselves off of the spacecraft's walls. The only answer is they are not from this physical world. They must be from another dimension. 2. Usually light green and reptilian in appearance or a creature of brilliant light who have incredible powers. Sometimes Human figures dressed in black. Rev. 16:13,14 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. 2 Cor. 11:14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. C. Their message 1. is contradictory to the Bible. * If these visitors are space travelers then they should have higher intelligence. They should be able to give us answers about disease, crime, war, education, life in general, God and the after life. They have often spoken on these topics only to contradict themselves. In Al Bender's book, Flying Saucers and the Three Men, some of his deepest questions are answered. Was there life after death? Not that they knew of. Was there a God in heaven? No. At least not as we conceive of Him. Who was Jesus Christ? Merely a man... who believed with all of His being in the God of Israel. A good man, they said, one who tried to bring justice and kindness into a brutal world, but He had paid with His life. * They also went on to deny Christ's resurrection. Bender had a problem with this because he was raised a catholic. After he continued to question them about this subject they became hostile to him.

14 14 Erich Von Daniken in his book "Chariots of the Gods" has a similar anti-biblical story that Moses was lead by a UFO and the Ark of the Covenant was a transmitter to talk to the aliens. "Human beings are under the control of a strange force that bends them in absurd ways, forcing them to play a role in a bizarre game of deception." - Dr. Jacques Vallee, Messengers of Deception, p. 20 Why would thousands of ET s fly millions or billions of light years simply to teach New Age philosophy, deny Christianity, and support the occult? 2. compliments Satan's strategies a. It can give a possible explanation of the rapture Thelma Terrell channels an alien protector named "Ashtar" who states "The earth is about to flip on it's axis and some enlightened ones will be taken off the earth by levitation beams to repopulate another planet." Ashtar states that they worship the one creator but it is not the one in the Bible. b. It can bring about unification of the world. * Fear that we could be invaded could cause boarders to fall in hope that a unified earth could not be taken. OR If they are peaceful aliens - Planet earth will never be able to take its rightful place in the Federation of Planets until we have become unified ourselves. They have promised to give us everything from peace, to disease control, to perpetual motion machines, to total enlightenment. Which of these promises have come to pass? c. It can open the way for a new religion * People will be scared and open to anyone who appears as a savior. * It could not be aliens because they are not credibale. They undermine the Word of God. What would when be their purpose to deceive us? None, and if they are so far advanced beyond us they would not contradict themselves. Unless they are morally corrupt. * It could be demons because they follow the father of lies.

15 15 John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. not to be seen. 4. Their methods of contacting us are questionable? a. In 1969 the U.S. Government Printing Office issued a publication researched by the Library of Congress for the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research: UFOs and Related Subjects: An Annotated Bibliography. Listing over 1600 books and articles, it was the most comprehensive bibliography of the period.
