SUMMARY OF THE NOVEL POSTERN OF FATE Tommy and Tuppence were a married couple who were tired of living in a big city which were always busy and unsafe as well the environment which did not beautiful and healthy. Therefore they decided to move to a country which was safe and peaceful. Such place was called Holloquway in England. They bought a house and lived there. Actually they had daughter but she did not live with them because she was married. In their new house, they like spending the time by reading many kinds of books especially reading the old books. They felt that the old story was still interesting. One day while reading one of the old books, she unaccidentally touched the bell for calling her servant, named Albert, actually she did not mean to call her servant. Because of the bell sound, Albert come Albert came and ask Tuppence what can be helped. Tuppence, told Albert to get a strange book for her, she had never seen it before. Apparently the book was titled Black Arrow which was written by Stevenson. The book is a relic of people who once inhabited the house. Then Tuppence opened and read the book, she was intrigued because there are words that are underlined with red ink on certain words. Tuppence deliver it to her husband, Tommy. However, her husband thinks it is not unusual when one read the book and it need not be regarded as a mystery or something important. Tuppence, not simply accept the opinion of Tommy. Then, she showed the book to Tommy. Both of them read the book and find a word that reads Mary Jordan was unnaturally death, He's one of us. After seeing the book, Tommy still think it was not something ordinary, but Tuppence has a high curiosity about it. Without permission to Tommy, Tuppence find out the truth of the words contained in the

2 book. She went to the grave with her dog, Hannibal. Hannibal is a type of dog that is very sensitive sense of smell against her employer. So when Tuppence out of the house, Hannibal immediately followed him from behind. Tuppence, visiting graves in the countryside, maybe she'll find a headstone that written name of Mary Jordan, like the one in the book Black Arrow. Meanwhile, Tommy look for Tuppence at home, he knew that his wife was not at home, maybe she seek the truth of the words that she has founded in booke yesterday, and Tommy follow Tuppence to the grave, he found her there. Tommy was angry, he said that no name Mary-jordan Jordan or other written on the headstone. Tuppence first inquiry failed. She forgot to find out Who is Mary Jordan for a while, because her husband not alow her to do that. In that new house many things that are not used, but not all that ugly junk, there's still a nice even look unique, one of them is a brass lamp. For that Tuppence decide to take him to the bazaar thrift. Indeed, many people who liked that old brass lamps. Tuppence too busy looking for used goods which she likes, Tommy did not accompany him in the junk bazaar. Tommy would prefer to walk with Hanibal. They walked to a church, Hannibal who enjoy this freedom and sniffing the grass and plants that decorate the edge of the street. Hannibal felt so free, so it makes Tommy must be extra strong to take care of Hannibal. Hannibal could not be detained again he entered the gates of the church, then Hannibal show Tommy something. Tommy was surprised because he saw several graves, the tombstone was no longer legible. Maybe it is for thousands of years ago. Tommy noticed the gravestone one by one, but there is a strange feeling in her heart. He immediately left the place and pulled the chain Hanibal

3 When Tuppence is engrossed in reading the book, Beatrice her new neighbors came to the house. Beatrice wanted to tell Tuppence about Mary Jordan. As far as she knows Mary Jordan has ever lived in a house inhabited by Tommy and Tuppence today. According to the story of Beatrice, Mary Jordan died from an accident. But Tupence is not as easy to believe what the Beatrice said. Beside Betrice there is also a new neighbor named, Mrs. Griffin. Mrs. Griffin told that it was a lot of people who inhabit the house before Tuppence and her husband, then she also confirmed that Mary Jordan also never stay there. Maybe a lot of information she got about Mary Jordan. Following from Beatrice and Mrs Griffin he also obtained information from Gwenda. Gwenda is a minister in charge of sales of household appliances section and glassware. Tuppence Gwenda told about Mary Jordan is known from the story of her grandmother. Tuppence encounter pack Bodlicot and Mr.

Whereas, the house is currently inhabited by Tuppence formerly known as KK (Kay-kay) derived from the Japanese language, as well as former shows a rocking horse (True Love). He does not know a lot of stories about Mary Jordan. He just tells that Mary Jordan died of food poisoning and just it When he returned to the house Tommy was surprised because Tuppence bring the used rocking horse was taken to the house. Tommy thought his wife too much to investigate the death of Mary Jordan. Starting from asking people who are already very old at all, according to Tommy it was less efficient, because it may be due to aging of their stories so rambling or old people had forgotten the real story, which then adds a story that is not true. Which states that Mary Jordan is a spy. But he was not a German spy. He's not an enemy spy. Mary Jordan is part of Mr. Robinson. At one point they decided to do the investigation together. They met Colonel Pikeaway who also knows a lot about events that occurred in the past, perhaps Colonel Pikeaway know about the story of Mary Jordan's death. However, kololonel Pikeaway does not know much about the death of Mary Jordan. He just tells that Mary Jordan was not a spy. she was a good person who worked on the force of the Sea. Strange things begin to happen when Tommy and Tupence investigating. Namely Sir Isaac Bodlicot were shot dead by an unknown stranger Various mysteries encountered by Tommy and Tuppence took them to a list that almost did not make sense: "Black Arrow, Alexander Parkinson, Mary Jordan died
