4 12:50-13:00 Concluding Remark 10. Abstract: Abstract length is within 2 pages (including figures) in A4 size and should be written in English preferably using MS word and save as a RTF format. Figures can be included but should be sent separately as jpeg form (less than 1Mb in size). Font should be Times or Times New Roman in 12 point. Title should be in bold and start with capital, followed by author names, affiliations, and addresses. An example of abstract form can be found in our homepage. Abstracts should be sent to Dr. Tomohisa Irino <irino@ees.hokudai.ac.jp> by October 31st. <Sample Abstract> THE TITLE OF THE ABSTRACT SHOULD BE IN CAPITAL AND IN BOLD (12 point Times font) Author A M (Institution, City, Province or State, Country, Postal Code or Zip Code) 2nd Author B N and 3rd Author C O (2nd Institute) Leave one blank line after the title. Type names of authors (no punctuation) and address in upper and lower case letters. Authors entry must be last name first followed by first name or initials. Do not leave any blank lines between authors. Leave one blank line after author information. Required type size is 12 point Times font. Printing area is 16 cm wide and 24 cm in height. Indent the first word in each paragraph of the abstract by 1.0 cm. Leave no blank lines within the body of the abstract, except at the end. 11. Oral Presentation Oral presentaion should be in English. We will prepare one power point projector connected with Windows machine and Machintosh machine. In case you need OHP projector or slide projector, please let us know beforehand. Please install your presentation file to the machines before your session will start. (Also we would like to ask speakers to allow us to copy their presentation ppt files, burn on CDs, and circulate among the speakers to help them writing synthesis papers.) The time for your talk in the program includes 10 minutes for questions and discussions. 12. Poster Presentation Poster space will be 172 cm long and 112 cm wide. Two minutes presentations on posters are arranged in the late afternoon of December 7th. Ppt files should be submitted by noon. 4

Confirmation on Registration: In order to avoid unnecessary troubles or miss-arrangement of the symposium, we ask all participants, especially foreign participants, to send us and a Registration Confirmation Form (Attachment 1) by October 20th. 14. On-site Registration: Registration desk will open from 13:30-17:00 on December 6th and Registration fee of 3,000 yen that includes an abstract volume and reception fee will be collected at the registration desk. Registration fee will be waved for speakers and students. 15. Financial Support: Financial support plan was already fixed. Those who will receive partial or full financial support will be notified in a separate mail with detailed instructions. 16. Accommodations: For foreign participants who will receive accommodation supports, accommodation has been already reserved either at University Guest House, Forest Hongo, or Hotel Kizan-kan from Dec. 5th to 8th. Other foreign participants who need hotel reservation may make contact with Miss AkikoTagami <akikot@eps.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp> by no later than October 31st. We will make reservation either at Forest Hongo (ca. 90 USD/night) or Hotel Kizan-kan (ca. 80USD/night) near the campus upon your request. Domestic participants are asked to make reservation by themselves. Locations of hotels are shown in the map below. 17. Visa: Visa might be required for several countries including China and India. Those who need visa are advised to make contact with Japanese embassy in your country for information on required documents. Miss Akiko Tagami <akikot@eps.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp> will help you preparing necessary documents for application of visa. Generally, acquisition of visa will take 2 to 3 weeks. So you should make contact with Miss Tagami by no later than October 31st. 18. Venue: Most of international flights will arrive at Narita International Airport. There are two routes from Narita Airport to Hongo Campus of University of Tokyo. 1. Using Keisei Line 1) Take Keisei Line to Ueno terminal station. Express train bound for Ueno comes every 20 minutes till 10 p.m. and it will cost 1,000 yen. 5
6 You can take any seat as far as it is available. It will take a little more than 1 hour. You can also take Super Express Sky Liner which is ca. 10 minutes faster but you have to pay additional 1,000 yen for seat reservation. 2) From Keisei-Ueno Station, take a taxi to University of Tokyo. It is advised to take a taxi from the other side of the main street in front of Keisei-Ueno Station to save the taxi fee. To stop a taxi, just raise your hand. Ask a driver to take you to the rotary close to Bus Terminal within the campus (show the map to a driver). It will cost ca. 1,000 yen. (You can also walk, which will take ca. 20 minutes. But there is rather steep upslope of 20 m in hight.) 3) From the rotary to Science Building #1C (the conference place), it will take one minute by walk. 2. Using JR line 1) Take JR Narita Line to Tokyo Station. Narita express bound for Tokyo will cost ca. 3,000 yen. It will take ca. 1hour. 2) From Tokyo, take a subway called Marunouchi Line (Red Line) bounds for Ikebukuro and get off at Hongo-sanchome station (M21). It will take ca. 10 minutes and cost 160 yen. The subway comes every 4 to 5 minutes. 3) From Hongo-sanchome to Science Building #1C, it will take ca. 15 minutes by walk (see the map). 19.
