5 DET CRC Background DET CRC will develop more cost-effective, safer and more environmentally-friendly methods for deep mineral exploration focusing on coiled tubing drilling complemented by downhole and top-of-hole sensing incorporated entity with independent board $57M cash & $88M in-kind support over 8 years ( ) from Australian government and participants participants include miners, research providers and service companies DET CRC s head office is co-located with Boart Longyear s Asia Pacific head office in Adelaide unique model of commercialisation of IP through the service sector Participants: $450k pa (~33x leverage) Affiliates: $10k pa with colleges for junior explorers, service providers and geological surveys DET CRC will deliver revolutionary new technology for minex such as coiled tubing drilling with logging-while-drilling and Lab-at-Rig analytical capability. Drilling and logging results will be fed real-time to remote geological modelling capability in order to plan immediate (within 24 hours) follow-up drilling.

6 Coiled Tubing Drilling (CTD) for Mineral Exploration DET CRC s flagship project to deliver CTD for minex detcrc.com.au/category/media-releases/ receiving ~$6M cash and ~$13M in-kind over CTD can achieve 2x ~1,000m Alberta gas wells per day with 2-3 hours move in and rig up time and penetration rates up to100m/hr CTD offers improved cost, safety, environment and hole stability in minex key challenges for CTD in minex include: low WOB hard rock drilling, coil durability and cuttings return DET CRC s initial target: greenfields rig to 500 m, weight less than 10 tonnes and $50/m in Phase I a prototype CT rig was commissioned (right), and CTD lab facilities were commissioned in: percussion and rotary drilling CT material testing cuttings return

7 Downhole Sensing improved productivity and new drilling technologies require in situ, near real-time rock characterisation in exploration holes DET CRC s AutoSonde TM has successfully logged natural gamma radiation in a borehole detcrc.com.au/category/media-releases/ the AutoSonde TM is pumped down inside drill rods and logs as rods are pulled (no separate wireline crew, no downtime, little risk of losing the hole) DET CRC s AutoShuttle is a supporting sensing platform that sits behind the core barrel, sensing the surrounding rocks while drilling, and is recovered each time the core barrel is recovered the AutoSonde TM is being commercialised by Boart Longyear current focus is adding new sensors to AutoSonde TM and developing AutoShuttle AutoSonde TM

8 Top-of-Hole Sensing: Lab-at-Rig downhole sensing of petrophysical properties and structure/fabric (images) will be complemented by top-of-hole sensing of geochemistry and mineralogy the geochemical accuracy and depth-fidelity of Lab-At-Rig demonstrated by results on cuttings from the Brukunga Drilling Research and Training Facility (see below, blue bars from core, Fe and S weight % from cuttings) field deployments of Lab-At-Rig have been undertaken with Geoscience Australia detcrc.com.au/category/media-releases/ and Anglo American commercialisation of Lab-At-Rig is being negotiated with Imdex and the next generation Lab-At-Rig is an ongoing project with CSIRO, Curtin University, Imdex, Olympus and the University of Adelaide

Logging-whiledrilling and Lab-at-Rig analytical capability will remove or greatly reduce need for core and lengthy core analysis. Combined with real-time geological modelling, these will permit follow-up drilling without rig de-mob and re-mob.
