1 飯塚毅博士の研究業績概要 飯塚毅博士はこれまで, 地質学 同位体年代学 地球化学的手法に基づいて, 固体地球の進化, 特に大陸地殻進化過程の解明に取り組んできた 同博士の研究は, 以下の 3 つよりなる 1. 安定大陸地殻の形成と成長史大陸地殻は, 玄武岩質の下部地殻と花崗岩質の上部地殻から構成されており, その存在は, 水惑星 地球の重要な特徴となっている ジルコンは, 花崗岩質地殻に普遍的に含まれており, その U-Pb 年代からジルコンの母岩の結晶化年代を, また Hf 同位体組成からマントルや古い大陸地殻の起源を知ることができる 飯塚毅博士は, 新たなレーザーアブレーション ICP 質量分析法の開発に取り組み, 従来よりも迅速且つ高精度な局所 U-Pb 年代 微量元素同時分析及び Hf 同位体分析手法を確立した [ 業績目録 15,17,20] 飯塚博士は, この手法を世界の主要河川の川砂ジルコンに幅広く適用し, 初生的な地殻の生成は, おおよそ 33 億年以前及び 13 億年前頃に間欠的に起きた事, 安定な大陸は約 33 億年前に誕生した事, 地球表層を覆う堆積岩は 億年前にかけて発達した事 花崗岩は大陸地殻内での頻繁な融解 混合過程によって形成された事などを明らかにした [ 業績目録 3,16] 2. 安定大陸形成以前の大陸地殻形成史安定大陸が誕生した 33 億年前以前の初期地殻の性質 進化過程については, 地球史の最初期 10 億年間の地質学試料が限られ, さらに変成作用を被っているため, 理解があまり進んでいなかった 博士は自ら開発した年代 地球化学 同位体分析手法を用いて, 世界最古の岩石 ( アカスタ片麻岩 ) 及び鉱物 ( ナリヤー砕屑性ジルコン ) が経てきた変成履歴及び地質構造発達史を明らかにした [ 業績目録 1,5,8,25] さらに,42 億年前の捕獲結晶ジルコンを発見し, その微量元素組成から母岩が花崗岩質であったことを示し,33 億年以前に地球規模で大陸地殻の形成が起きていたことを明らかにした [ 業績目録 12] 3. マグマオーシャンの固化と地殻形成飯塚博士は地球初期の岩石試料について, 消滅核種起源の Nd や W の同位体分析を行い, マグマオーシャンの固化に対応する最初期地殻形成が ~45 3 億年前以降に起こったことを示した [ 業績目録 2] この他,,,
