Mechanical Engineering Arizona State University, Center for Environmental Fluid Dynamics Thesis: Investigations of Environmental Effects on Freeway Acoustics Chair: Harindra J.S. Fernando 2005, May B.S. Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics University of Arizona 2001, May A.S. Engineering Science Manchester Community College, Manchester, CT 2000, May A.S. General Studies Manchester Community College, Manchester, CT RESEARCH INTERESTS Applied computational mathematics and data sciences on topics within environmental fluid dynamics, particularly for urban processes. Present work focuses on improving the representation of cities within atmospheric models to increase model forecast skill at small spatial scales by efficiently using high-resolution observations of land cover. Aspects of sustainability, urban-hydroclimate, and urban planning, are being investigated with hypothetical present and future city development scenarios, including changing land use to increase local food production within metropolitan areas such as Phoenix. These cases are achieved by combining physics-based models of land and atmospheric processes with sophisticated urban, vegetation and crop models. These investigations utilize high-performance computing resources, such as the Computational and Information Systems Laboratory, Internet2, and resources at ASU Research Computing.
