While the majority of the maps focus on Western Europe (France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands) during the Second World War, the collection also includes maps of North America, Italy, and China. The majority of the maps were created under GSGS (Geographical Section, General Staff, also known as MI 4), which operated under the Director of Military Operations and Intelligence in the British War Office during the Second World War.
