3 Social science (Democratic Politics) 1 On the basis of news in the newspaper or TV channels, identify any two pressure groups working in India. Procedure: List any two pressure groups working in India. Take help of newspapers, TV channels, internet to collect information Prepare report on: i. What is their area of activities? ii. What are their goals? iii. How do they influence politics? iv. What methods do they use to achieve their goals? v. Is their influence healthy or not? vi. Are these pressure groups related to political parties in anyway? PHYSICS Electricity 1. State the difference between the wire used in the element of an electric heater and in fuse wire. 2. How is the direction of electric current related to the direction of flow of electrons? Calculate the current in a circuit if 500C of charge passes through it in 10minutes. 3. The resistance of a wire of 0.01cm radius is 10Ω. If resistivity of the material of wire is 50 x 10-8 Ωm, find the length of the wire. 4. Explain how saving electricity is important at individual level and at national level. 5. (a) (i) What is meant by saying that the potential difference between two points is 1volt? (ii) How much energy is given to 5C of charge passing through a 12V battery? (b) An electric heater coil is connected to a 220V source. If the resistance of the heater coil is 220Ω, find the current. (c) Describe an activity with necessary electric circuit to study the factors on which the resistance of a conducting wire depends.
4 6. State Ohm s law. Write the necessary condition for its validity. How is this law verified experimentally? What will be the nature of graph between V and I for a conductor? Name the physical quantity which can be determined by this graph. 7. An electric refrigerator rated 500W operates 24 hours/day. What is the cost of the energy to operate it for 20 days at rupees 2.00 per kwh. 8. An electric geyser has the rating 2000W, 220V marked on it. What should be the minimum rating in whole number of a fuse wire that may be required for safe use with this geyser? Magnetic effects of electric current 1. Draw the pattern of magnetic field lines around a current carrying straight conductor. How does the strength of magnetic field produce change (i) with the distance from the conductor? (ii) with an increase in current in a conductor? 2. Describe the activity that shows that a current carrying conductor experiences a force perpendicular to its length and the external magnetic field. How does Fleming s left hand rule help us to find the direction of the force acting on the current carrying conductor? 3. Draw the pattern of field lines due to a bar magnet. Mention any two properties of magnetic field lines. 4. How will you use solenoid to magnetise a steel bar? 5. Can a freely suspended current carrying solenoid stay in one direction? Justify your answer. What happens when the direction of the current is reversed?
5 CHEMISTRY 1. What is a redox reaction? 2. What is corrosion? Explain its advantage and disadvantage. 3. What is rancidity? How can we reduce the problem of rancidity? 4. How is corrosion different from rusting? 5. What is meant by endothermic and exothermic reactions? Give suitable example for each. 6. Define different types of chemical reaction and give examples for each. 7. Why is photosynthesis considered as an endothermic reaction? 8. In electrolysis of water, why is the volume of gas collected over one electrode double that of the other electrode? 9. What happens when water is added to solid calcium oxide taken in a container? Write a chemical formula for the same. 10. Give one use of quick lime. 11. Give three types of decomposition reaction. 12. Name the compound used for testing CO 2 gas. 13. Why is Plaster of Paris stored in a moisture proof container? 14. What do you mean by neutralization reaction? Give two examples. 15. Mention two uses of baking soda and washing soda. 16. Why does a milkman add a small amount of baking soda to fresh milk to shift the ph of fresh milk from 6 to slightly alkaline? 17. Why do acids not show acidic behavior in the absence of water? 18. Rain water conducts electricity but distilled water does not. Why? 19. Why don t we keep sour substances in brass and copper vessels? 20. What is the common name of CaOCl2? 21. Name the compound used for softening hard water. 22. What happens when baking soda is heated? 23. Give the properties and uses of bleaching powder. BIOLOGY 1. Complete the worksheet 2.
