7 What can you do to support your son/daughters progress? Ensure your son/daughter have the correct equipment pens, pencils, ruler, planner and a calculator. Ensure that they complete and hand in all homework tasks. All homework set can be found on the homework website, which also provides details of due dates. Encourage them to read around the topics that they are covering in class-this can be done using the internet, books, magazines and by watching documentaries on TV e.g. visit Science section of BBC website or use YouTube. Help them with their revision using Bitesize on the internet - BBC - KS3 Bitesize: Science
8 How will your son/daughter s progress be tracked? At the end of each term all students will complete a 1 hour exam paper that assesses all content covered to date (cumulative papers). For each assessment your son/daughter will be given formative feedback/ targets explaining what they need to do to improve and further progress. Teachers will also use other types of assessment e.g. practical investigations, presentations and assessment for learning tasks to assess the progress that your son/daughter is making. Homework will also be set at the end of each topic, marked by teacher and targets set to help them progress further.
9 What next? GCSE options Courses delivered: o Double GCSE option (2 GCSEs) Core Science Additional Science o Triple Science GCSE option (3 GCSEs) Biology Chemistry Physics
10 Assessment of GCSE courses Module 1: 60 minute paper-25% Module 2: 60 minute paper-25% Module3: 60 minute paper-25% Controlled assessment (ISA)-25% Students are now assessed for the quality of their written communication within each exam paper. There has also been in literacy demands of assessments. How Science Works-Scientific enquiry skills will be developed at key stage 3 and embedded into teaching at key stage 4. These skills will be assessed through the ISA and within module exams.
