4 Introduction 4 Water is a precious treasure. The contamination of our water supply is becoming a more and more serious problem, because it is the final destination of domestic and industrial waste. Being an indispensable staple of an advanced society and a necessity for economic and industrial development, the availability of clean water is universally recognized as a mark of civilization. This universal concern for water quality and for a healthy environment has forged in recent years a collective effort to protect and ration this precious treasure. In this context, DERYPOL S.A. has one of the most extensive range of products in the market for water purification, including flocculant polymers and synthetic coagulants. Moreover, our team of experienced water purification specialists strive to meet the particular needs of each of our clients. This is our conviction; and our mission is to protect the Environment while providing the best service to our clients. Basic Theory Coagulation and Flocculation are two steps within the process of water purification. Both steps can be summarized as a process in which small particles combine to form bigger particles called flocks. These new particles have a specific weight that differs slightly from that of water. Because of this difference in weight, flock particles are able to either separate or float.

5 5 Coagulation stage Coagulation refers to the destabilization process of suspended matter. Suspended matter naturally maintains an equilibrium of positive and negatives charges. By breaking this balance these colloidal particles can come together. It is also very important to bear in mind the proportion of coagulant. If the proportions are unbalanced, a restabilization of the colloidal matter may occur due to the over saturation of the superficial charge of the particles, thereby complicating coagulation. Coagulation stage Flocculation stage Flocculation refers to the dynamic processes that take place in the aqueous medium, where particles get in contact and form flocks. The flocculant product causes the formation of chemical bondings between two or more particles. Flocks formed this way are soft and porous three-dimensional structures. The specific weight of flocks differs from that of water, allowing a separation phase to occur, either by sedimentation or floatation. Flocculation stage

6 Coagulants 6 Synthetic Coagulants Hyfloc Series Synthetic or organic coagulants have the ability to replace partially or completely the classic coagulants of mineral origin (inorganic). They stay effective in a wide range of different ph without modifying it, therefore reducing the required dose of alkaline reagents in the coagulation process (caustic lye, lime). Because of this, they also reduce the sludge production and improve the later sludge dewatering and the effluent purification. Likewise, its use is also standard in the secondary biological sludge coming from aerobic and anaerobic digestions, favouring the fast settling of sludge and respecting the bacterial flora. 9 Products for drinking water 9 The new legal requirements for the treatment of water intended for human consumption, such as restrictions on polyacrylamides and other compounds, have spawned a new generation of products to be developed. Hypol DW Series Free of acrylamide products that fulfil the requirements of the UNE:EN 1408:2008 norm, in regards to products used in the treatment of water intended for human consumption, present a high molecular weight that allows them to successfully replace the use of classic polyacrylamides, with the advantage that, combined with aluminium salts, they leave a lower residual content of this metal in comparison to any other standard products. 10 Flocculants 10 Aqueous dispersions (Derypol s exclusive technology) The flagship of Derypol S.A. products is without doubt water dispersion flocculants. The easiness of their modification and application make them unique in the market. Under some conditions they can even be administered directly without previous dilution. Their stability is good and their performance is not affected by using hard water in making solutions. Being free of surfactants and solvents, their manufacturing process has a low environmental impact in comparison with other flocculant product manufacturing systems. Himoloc DR Series Cationic flocculants, effective in a wide range of ph, can work alone or in combination with other standard products used in water treatments. Although its use is very common in all kind of water purification and sludge dewatering applications, Himoloc DR Series are especially useful in treatments of effluents where the separation must be made by flotation, cavitations or diffusion. Appearance Density Viscosity ph Cationicity Molecular weight DR2200 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <2000 cp 3,0-4,5 Very low High DR2500 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <500 cp 3,0-4,1 Low High DR3000 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <600 cp 3,0-4,1 Medium High DR4000 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <600 cp 3,0-4,1 Very high High DR522 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <1500 cp 3,0-4,1 Low High DR523 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <3000 cp 3,0-4,1 Medium High

11 11 Himoloc TG Series Himoloc TG Series is the natural technological evolution of the first Himoloc DR Series cationic flocculants. Because of its greater molecular weight, this product range is specially targeted for sludge dewatering in high speed centrifuges and for those sludges that initially have a relatively low proportion of water. In addition they also provide excellent results in water treatments. Appearance Density Viscosity ph Cationicity Molecular weight TG325 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <3000 cp 3,0-4,5 Low Very high TG30 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <1500 cp 3,0-4,2 Medium Very high TG60 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <1200 cp 3,0-4,1 High Very high TG823 White milky liquid ~1,2 g/cm 3 <5000 cp 3,0-5,0 Medium Very high Himoloc GO/GA Series Universal anionic dispersion flocculants are used for the elimination of suspended materials, as well as in the chemical industry and for textiles, paintings, tanning, food, metallurgical and hydrocarbon derivatives. GA8713 is unique for an anionic flocculant since, unlike most of anionic flocculants, it is able to flocculate in acid ph. 12 Flocculants 12 Himoloc ZW Series These are amphoteric flocculants that combine cationic and anionic charge in the same polymeric structure. Their strongpoint is an amazing stability in extreme conditions; their amphoteric nature provides them a great facility in dissolution. Although these products have been recently developed, they are already successfully used in sludge dewatering in filter press and in waste water treatment in many industrial fields, especially when the oil and fat content is high. Appearance Density Viscosity ph Cationicity Molecular weight ZW111 White milky liquid ~1,20 g/cm 3 < 2000 cp 3,0-5,0 Low High ZW322 White milky liquid ~1,20 g/cm 3 < 2000 cp 3,0-5,0 Medium High Himoloc DF y GP Series (Acrylamide-free) The product called DF100 is an acrylamide-free very high cationic flocculent (100% molar cationic). It has also a very high dissolution speed. Because of its acrylamide absence, this product can be used in sludge dewatering systems where the final sludge has to be used in agriculture or in any application where the absence of this monomer is required. DF100 Appearance Density Viscosity ph Cationicity Appearance White milky liquid ~1,20 g/cm 3 < 3000 cp 4,0 6,0 100% High Appearance Density Viscosity ph Appearance GP100 White milky liquid ~1,20 g/cm 3 < 2000 cp 3,0 5,0 High Solvent based emulsions Liquid flocculants emulsified in an organic solvent allows for an increase in the concentration of the product s active properties, which is especially of interest in applications where the flocculant consumption is high. In addition its high molecular weight provides excellent results in the processes of sludge dewatering, especially in centrifuges.
