Finding Meaning in MAP Data: Norms and Reports Changes for Fall 2015
Agenda New 2015 Norms New College Readiness Linking Study New Comparative Data to Inform Instruction Reports Changes- Navigational Changes CDF Student Growth Summary Report ASG (Achievement Status & Growth) Report 2
How will Partners know about these changes? MARC login page will have messaging alerting the changes What s New for Educators section in MAP help Partner Update s In Learning Library of Destination PD: 2015 Norms 3
2015 Norms- Status, Growth & School 4
What to expect from the 2015 norms.
Things partners are gonna LOVE!
1 We have school level achievement (status) and growth norms!
2 The norms better account for summer loss!!
3 We improved our sample so it more accurately reflects the nation s students!!!
4 We have fall to winter and winter to spring growth norms!!!!
Other key changes
What grades and subjects are normed?
Why do norms results change?
1 Changes in the makeup of the school-age population The proportion of minority children, ELL students, and students living in poverty continues to increase
2 implementation of the Common Changes in the educational landscape Core, Race to including the Top, and the aftermath of teacher layoffs during the Great Recession
3 Improvements a more representative to the sample, norming methodology better estimates including of summer loss, and moving from five to nine terms of data
How did results change?
Change in fall mathematics status norms Percentile K The 2015 norming group performed lower than the 2011 norming group. The differences were more pronounced in kindergarten and high school.
Change in spring mathematics status norms Percentile K In the early grades, the 2015 group performed slightly better than the 2011 group. In the upper grades, the 2015 group performed worse.
Change in fall reading status norms Percentile K The 2015 norming group showed slightly lower performance than the 2011 norming group. Kindergarten was an exception.
Change in spring reading status norms Percentile K The 2015 norming group showed similar performance to the 2011 group in the early grades, slightly lower performance in the upper grades.
Change in fall to spring growth norms - mathematics Percentile K The 2015 norming group showed higher growth than the 2011 norming group. One factor to consider is that the new norms better account for summer loss (which would raise the growth projection)
Change in fall to spring growth norms - reading Percentile K Low performers within the 2015 norming group showed higher growth than their peers in the 2011 norming group. High performers showed slightly less growth.
