Airbus DS Intelligence Copernicus EMS activation example EMSN-023: Risk of rain, flood and heat extremes for the World Youth Day, Krakow 2016 Request originated from National HQ of the Polish State Fire Service in preparation for the World Youth Day to be held in Krakow, Poland from 25th July through to 31st July. Large numbers of participants are expected during the event with the 3 main sites (Błonia, Łagiewniki and Brzegi) expected to host from 75000 to 2 million people, the latter at the Final Mass in Brzegi on 31st July. The user requires the following products to assist them in safeguarding people and property: Reference maps, Risk and hazard maps for flooding, Extreme rainfall and heat and landslides, Associated mitigation and recovery measures including evacuation routes 10

Airbus DS Intelligence Copernicus EMS activation example EMSN-023: Risk of rain, flood and heat extremes for the World Youth Day, Krakow 2016 6 areas of interest (AOIs), comprising 3 overview locations, each of which contained a further detailed AOI Detailed AOIs at 1:5,000 scale and x1 Overview map at 1:30,000 scale 11

Airbus DS Intelligence Copernicus EMS activation example EMSN-023: Risk of rain, flood and heat extremes for the World Youth Day, Krakow 2016 The national 1:10,000 scale dataset (BDOT10k) used as large scale data source. Very comprehensive data source. OpenStreetMap used for Overview map background draped over EU-DEM. 12

Airbus DS Intelligence Copernicus EMS activation example EMSN-023: Risk of rain, flood and heat extremes for the World Youth Day, Krakow 2016 Land cover map derived from Urban Atlas but updated with VHR1 optical imagery (2015), 0.1m orthophotography (2013), OSM, BDOT10k and Wikimapia. Land use and urban density included in the 48 classes. 13

Airbus DS Intelligence Copernicus EMS activation example EMSN-023: Risk of rain, flood and heat extremes for the World Youth Day, Krakow 2016 Flood risk maps derived from ISOK source Two flood scenarios were selected: 1. Areas where the probability of flooding is high and amounts to once in every 10 years (10%) 2. Scenario 1 and areas where a levee break had occurred and flooded adjacent low-lying land. 14

Airbus DS Intelligence Copernicus EMS activation example EMSN-023: Risk of rain, flood and heat extremes for the World Youth Day, Krakow 2016 Air pollution data sourced from Malopolska Spatial Data Infrastructure (MIIP) geoportal Air Protection Program base 2011 data for PM2.5, PM10, NO2 & SO2 PM2.5 PM10 NO2 SO2 15

Airbus DS Consortium Copernicus EMS - SERTIT EMSN-028 - Flood delineation and damage assessment, France Event : In late May and early June 2016 flooding hit parts of Europe, mostly France, Germany and Belgium. In France, the Loing and Seine rivers burst their banks and thousands of people were evacuated from the town of Nemours. Some areas reported the worst flooding seen in a century. In the department of Loiret, six weeks worth of rain reportedly fell in three days. Request : The French AU (Ministère de l Intérieur, Direction Générale de la Sécurité Civile et de la Gestion des Crises (COGIC)), on behalf of Ministère de l Environnement, de l Energie et de la Mer, DGPR/SRNH and Cerema/DterSud Ouest The user required the following products: flood mapping, infer maximum flooding and flood water depths, assess flood damages (dykes, LULC and population impact) 18
