INTRDUCTIN The work and results described in this report was conducted almost entirely on the financial assistance provided by the PAP Grant #P9-329. Without this extremely utilitarian aid very little exploration work could have been accomplished. The grant area covers eleven original claims, TB094 through TB0904, plus three contiguous claims TB9423, 9424 and 6547 which were staked in the summer of 99. All of the claims are located on the Castlewood Lake Claim Map, G-22 (Fig. 3). The field work was carried out by P. Lassila, author of this report, during the time period between June 7, 99 and ctober 23, 99. Report and map preparation continued into January 992. The backhoe trenching was completed between ctober 7 and ctober 9, 99 by Thorcox Excavating Ltd. of Beardmore, ntario. A pickup truck was used for daily transportation to the work site from Beardmore, ntario. PRPERTY The property consists of twelve 6 ha unsurveyed claims, TB9084 through 90804 and TB6547; one 96 ha claim, TB9424, and one 68 ha claim, TB923 (Fig. 3). wnership of % interest in all the claims belongs to P. Lassila (Lie. #A-4227). LCATIN AND ACCESS The property is located on the Kinghorn Road about 65 km north of the village of Jellicoe, ntario which rests on Highway some 280 km east of Thunder Bay, ntario (Figs, l and 2). The gravelled Kinghorn Road passes north through the property. Two gravel roads, east from the Kinghorn Road, also offer additional road access to the north and south parts of the property. Numerous old timber cut roads provide for heavy equipment access to various locations within the property area. TPGRAPHY AND UTCRP EXPSURE The property area is covered by nearly flat topography with some small gentle rises covered by overburden and occasional local - l -

rock outcroppings. About three quarters of the area consists of semi-dry flatlands which grade into black spruce swamp. A considerable portion of the property is semi-open with alder-brush regrowth over extensive timber-cut areas. PREVIUS WRK During 990 an exploration program, which included geological mapping, prospecting, VLF EM, bulldozer stripping and trenching, plugger trenching and blasting, and sampling, was carried out on the "original" eleven claim group through the assistance of an PAP grant. This work resulted in the discovery of two basemetal occurrences and two major sulfide mineralized zones. The 99 work is essentially a continuation of exploration following the 990 effort. As a result of preliminary 99 prospecting investigation, three additional claims (total of 80 ha) was tied on to the original 76 ha property during the summer of 99. Also 990-9 work on the M. Nelson property (immediately to the west) showed encouraging results which gave added incentive to enlarge the adjacent Lassila property holdings. WRK PRGRAM In 99 a multistage prospecting, mapping, VLF-EM, backhoe trenching, blasting and sampling program was conducted over the Lassila Con Lake claim group. All the field work was carried out by P. Lassila between June 7, 99 and ctober 23, 99. Preliminary prospecting of the area north and east of the original claim group was first conducted to determine general contact locations of the granite, diorite and mafic volcanics, followed by staking the areas of interest. Detailed prospecting and mapping, utilizing air photo enlargements and pace and compass for control, was subsequently conducted over the newly staked claims to define geology, outcrop exposure and to find mineralized occurrences. VLF EM traverses using a Geonics E-6 VLF and Guttler Maine as a transmitter station, were next conducted over those areas where

in the nature of rock exposures suggested a potential for possible buried conductive horizons which could subsequently be exposed by mechanical stripping, similar to the successful 990 program (Maps l, 0, ). Eleven VLF EM crossover locations were defined and designated for backhoe trenching, ^ all of them, in low- lying topographic.^--^5 (ir fat-khoe. j If G.,- opf'rvlc'y' locations. Backhoe trenching was conducted on ctober 8 and ctober 9,. j* A ^ A 99, over the VLF EM conductors in an effort to determine the bedrock nature of the anomalous locations^ o/** r* k*r, ' /y i*** Co* ), Lastly, blasting, sampling and mapping was conducted on the sulfide mineralized zone (VLF cond. #) exposed by backhoe trenching on claim 90804. A total of twelve representative, well mineralized, grab samples from the blasts pits were taken and assayed. PRPERTY GELGY AND MINERALIZATIN The property overlies an area of a very irregular contact of the southern projection of the West naman Lake granite batholith into mafic flows and diorite intrusives. The granitic intrusive generally forms very sharp contacts with both the volcanics and diorite but assimilation of mafic rocks within the granite is evident at some locations along the contact edges. The diorite, which is massive, generally mafic rich (grades into gabbro at some locations), is the predominant mafic rock in the east and northern portion of the property area, whereas mafic flows, predominantly of andesitic composition, underlie the nongranitic area west of the Kinghorn Road. The granite is massive, coarse grained and grades into quartz monzonite at some locations. Compositionally, it varies from 35% to 50% quartz, 40% to 60% K-feldspar and contains less than 0% mafic minerals. The western extension of the intrusive terminates just west of Con Lake where it contacts with massive to pillowed to foliated mafic flows. In the northeast (claim #9424) where it contacts with an earlier dioritic intrusive, the contacts commonly - 6 -

has been "granitized" into a hybrid hornblende biotite quartz diorite. The dioritic intrusive is well exposed in several locations along and near old logging roads on the west part of claim 9424. It is a massive greyish to greenish grey, medium grained rock which exhibits compositional gradations into greenish amphibolitic gabbro. It has been variably intruded by the granite at many locations in this area. Minor interflow mafic volcanics also occur within the diorite near the central part of claim #9424. Very little sulfide mineralization was observed within the diorite and only minor shearing was observed at a few locations. However, much of the area is covered by overburden; an aspect which severely inhibits effect exploration of this area by surface prospecting methods. The mafic (andesitic) volcanic flows are only well exposed in a small area just west of the granite contact off the southwest end of Con Lake. Here they exhibit massive to moderately well foliated structure with a few minor shears. Minor carbonatization was observed at a few locations. A very interesting sulfide mineralized zone was exposed on the north part of claim #90804 over VLF EM conductor # (Map 9). Despite severe water inflow problems, extensive backhoe trenching was able to define a 5 metre wide heavily sulfide mineralized zone hosted by trachyandesite flows on both sides. The zone consists of magnetite iron formation, quartzite, quartz, and from 2% to 40% sulfides, mainly pyrite and pyrrhotite but also l* to 3% chalcopyrite. A small part of the zone was blasted and sampled (Map 9). Twelve representative grab samples from several blast pits returned modest copper values (Q.25% to Q.70% cu) but low gold values (best result 86 ppb Au). f interest here also is the discovery of native copper at a few locations directly within the banded magnetite. - 7 -

RESULTS AND CNCLUSINS ne major sulfide mineralized zone, with modest copper content, was discovered. Several other VLF-EM crossovers which were backhoe trenched failed to provide answers to the cause of the conductivity. The major problem here is that they are all in wet lowlying areas with considerable overburden which prevented proper investigation of the subcrop nature. Considering that several basemetal occurrences, one associated with iron formation, have been discovered in the area suggests that basemetal enrichment has occurred within the underlying rocks. The major problem in this extensively overburden covered area is how to cost-effectively explore for them. Several VLF EM conductors were defined but not satisfactorily explained by the backhoe trenching effort. The only successful trenching completion exposed a heavily sulfide mineralized zone with modest but significant copper association. ther similar occurrences could well underlie the property area. In particular, an extremely strong VLF EM conductor apparently extends east-west under the lake on claim 9424. Backhoe trenching (Maps l, 2 and 0) at the west end of this conductor encountered granite with a narrow rusty, mineralized zone, under about five meters of overburden. However, due to severe water flooding and slumping of the trench banks this rusty zone could not be examined or sampled. This VLF EM conductor lies in a non-magnetic area, according airborne survey results, and may be caused by massive sulfides. Considering the tendency for base metal occurrences in the area a concentration of basemetal sulfides is a distinct possibility here. This locations requires: ) a winter geophysical survey on lake ice to delineate and define this conductive zone; 2) drilling through the ice if the geophysical results indicate that the VLF-EM conductor is related to bedrock mineralization. - 8 -
