DELTA DRILLING SERVICES Air Flush During rotary drilling air is used to flush disturbed material to the surface, this process is much faster and simpler than water flushing. BRE365 We are able to test the ground for soakage potential over a three-day period without leaving any open excavations, removing the need for permanent safety barriers and security. We carry out many of these and they have proved an efficient way to recover information on ground properties. Coring rock Core drilling is carried out using a triple-tube core barrel. Delta- Simons can core up to 80m, subject to ground conditions. Dynamic sampling Dynamic sampling (or windowless sampling) is carried out by either track-mounted percussive samplers or hand-held equipment. Samples are retrieved and then logging by a suitably qualified geotechnical engineer. Dynamic sampling is suited to restricted access sites, limited depth contamination investigations, and projects where disturbance must be kept to a minimum. This method can quickly cover a site and is very cost-effective. Foundation pits Delta-Simons has experience in digging foundation pits in order to identify existing foundations, where we will log the findings and provide supporting photos. Groundwater Abstraction Boreholes The Delta-Simons drilling team can install boreholes for domestic and non-domestic properties for the extraction of up to 20m 3 of water per day. Hollow Stem Auger (HSA) Hollow stem auger drilling techniques allow soil sampling with the capacity to case the borehole as sampling proceeds. Monitoring or remedial wells can then be installed through the centre of the hollow stem augers before removing them. Pile probing Encountering obstructions during piling works and clearing these obstructions can cause significant cost implications to the construction programme. By carrying out a pile probing exercise, Delta-Simons Drilling can identify obstructions in advance of the piling works, avoiding costly delays. Rotary open hole Rotary drilling is used to form a deep observation borehole or for obtaining representative samples of rock which could not be recovered using traditional cable percussion or dynamic sampling methods. Open hole boring is suitable for rapid drilling at a greater depth, to look for coal measures/ voids and for the installation of monitoring wells. Delta-Simons can drill up to 60m, subject to ground conditions. Service avoidance When an excavation is required, service plan assessment, cable avoidance tools and onsite observation are used to identify existing services ensuring that all investigation works can be planned and undertaken safely and efficiently. Once an area is cleared it can be dug up to 1.2m before any drill string is put into the ground. Solid Stem Auger (SSA) Solid stem drilling is a fast and effective way of drilling a borehole in soft soil conditions, and is used for pile probing and setting monitoring wells. SPTs (calibrated) The standard penetration test (SPT) is a continuous soil testing procedure to test relative density and shear strength of the strata. SPT results are obtained at regular intervals throughout various drilling methods. U70/U100T The U sample is used for obtaining undisturbed samples in clay and other cohesive soils, giving a nominal 70mm/100mm diameter sample. Water flush During rotary drilling water is used as a lubricant to flush disturbed material to the surface water, which is then recirculated through filtered tanks. Delta-Simons has experience in drilling through coal, where water flushing is required in order to reduce the risk of displacement of hazardous gases and to prevent sparks.
