TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF February 4 8, 2008 Highway work zones in the Staunton District The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures. ALLEGHANY COUNTY Interstate 64 * Mile markers 7 to 29 eastbound and westbound. Bridge deck maintenance. Single lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mile marker 9 westbound Right lane closed for ditch repair from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. * Route 60 Traffic reduced to a nine-foot six-inch lane, from.65 mile west to Route 772 for approaches and bridge replacement. Estimated completion is April 2008. * Various Roads Shoulder work. Flagger traffic control, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. * Various Roads Shoulder work. ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY Interstate 64 * Mile Markers 50 to 55 eastbound and westbound. Bridge deck maintenance. Single lane traffic, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. * Mile markers 191 to 188- Brush cutting in the median and on shoulders north and southbound. Expect shoulder closures weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. * Route 11 Utility company will be trimming trees. * Route 252 Tree trimming. Route 726 to Augusta County Line weekdays during daylight hours. *Route 602 Tree trimming from Route 742 to the Augusta County Line weekdays during daylight hours.

Night work - 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. * Mile markers 205 to 237 Northbound and southbound lanes, debris clean up on Wednesday. * Route 11 Utility company will be trimming trees. * Route 56 Utility company will be trimming trees. * Route 250 Trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 and from Route 608 between Route 608 to Route 1360. * Route 256 Shoulder repairs with single lane closures from Route 11 to Route 340. Flaggers will control traffic. * Route 262 Debris clean up from I-81 to Route 11 at Verona on Wednesday. * Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) Trucks entering from work site from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. * Route 608 Utility company will be trimming trees. * Route 610 Tree trimming from Route 608 to the Nelson County Line weekdays during daylight hours. *Route 624 Tree trimming from the Waynesboro City Limits to Route 634 weekdays during daylight hours *Route 710 Utility company will be trimming trees.. *Route 726 Utility company will be trimming trees. *Route 730 (Stribling Spring Road) Road closed 0.7 miles south of Route 747 (Freemason Run Road) and 0.5 mile north of Route 761 (Bull Mountain Road), beginning Monday, February 11, through Friday, February 22, for box culvert installation. Detour provided. * Route 794 Road closed for bridge replacement beginning Tuesday, January 22, from 1.8 miles east of Route 792 to 2.3 miles west of Route 642. Detour signs posted. Estimated completion is late February 2008. *Route 794 Road closed at bridge during replacement. Location: 1.8 miles east of Route 792 and 2.3 miles west of Route 642. *Route 1621 Minor delays due to trucks entering work site onto Route 1621 (Beagle Gap Run) for sewer line installation. Flaggers will control traffic during daylight hours. *Various Roads Shoulder repairs, brush cutting, patching, and machining non-hard surface roads. HIGHLAND COUNTY * Route 220 Shoulder repair with single lane closures controlled by flaggers. * Route 615 Cutting dead trees in the McDowell area. * Route 640 Shoulder work with lane closures controlled by flaggers. * Various Roads Brush cutting and pothole repair. ROCKINGHAM COUNTY * No activity. * Various Roads Patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching, etc. on various roads. * Route 644 (Resort Drive) Roadway reconstruction between Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) and Route 646 west (Bloomer Springs Road). Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. * Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road) Sewer line installation. Occasional blasting may occur. Shoulder closure. One lane traffic controlled by flaggers. FREDERICK COUNTY * Minor delays due to nighttime guardrail work. * Virginia Welcome Center at Clear Brook Southbound Welcome Center closed on May 8, 2006, and relocated to Old Town Winchester. Rest room facilities closed May 10, 2006. Building demolition and construction. * Route 11 Pipe cleaning and shoulder work in Stephens City area. * Route 50 Shoulder work in Winchester area. * Route 259 Shoulder work in Winchester area. * Various Roads Guardrail work, brush cutting, and pipe cleaning. * South Loudoun Street (City of Winchester) Road widening with a box culvert extension near Featherbed Lane and curb, gutter and sidewalk to be added from 0.06 mile south of Weems Lane to 0.01 mile south of Featherbed Lane. Estimated completion is fall of 2008. * Various Roads Guardrail work, shoulder work, brush cutting, scraping, pipe installations, cleaning and inspections. PAGE COUNTY * Route 340 (Overall Run bridge construction project) Periodic lane closure between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with flaggers controlling traffic. Shoulder closure southbound due to concrete barriers for the remainder of the project. Speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph. * Route 340 (Jeremy s Run) Bridge work. Single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Flagger traffic control.
*Route 662 & Route 340 Intersection Jeremy s Run bridge construction will cause periodic lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Flaggers will control traffic during weekdays. *Route 699 Jeremy s Run bridge construction will cause periodic lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Flaggers will control traffic during weekdays. *Route 700 Jeremy s Run bridge construction will cause periodic lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Flaggers will control traffic during weekdays. * Various Roads Patching, mowing, brush cutting, shoulder work, and grading non-hard surface roads weekdays during daylight hours. WARREN COUNTY Interstate 66 * Exit 6 Ramp closures may occur between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 as part of traffic control for Route 340/522 North Fork Bridge demolition. * I-66/I-81 interchange I-81 exit 300 - Bridge deck work will restrict traffic to one lane 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays on I-66 westbound lane ramp from I-81 southbound. * Route 340 (Overall Run bridge construction project) Periodic lane closure between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with flaggers controlling traffic. Shoulder closure southbound due to concrete barriers for the remainder of the project. Speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph. *Route 340/522 (North Fork Bridge project) Bridge construction. Speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph. On Sunday February 3, 2008 from 7:30 a.m. to about 8:30 a.m. Route 340/522 North and South Bound between Route 55 and North of Guard Hill Road (Route 637) will be closed. Also the Public will not be able to exit from Guard Hill Road onto Route 340/522. All traffic traveling Route 55 East will not be able to turn North Bound onto Route 340/522. This is because of the demolition of the North Fork of the Shenandoah Bridge. The South Bound exits from Route 66 onto Route 340/522 will also be closed during this time. * Various Roads Patching, mowing, ditching and scraping, weekdays during daylight hours. CLARKE COUNTY * No activity reported. * Various Roads Patching, brush cutting, mowing, shoulder work, and grading non-hard surface roads weekdays during daylight hours.
