This is the sixth straight year and ninth in the last 10 that OU has topped the Big 12 s preseason poll. OU had 36 points in this year s poll and was followed by Baylor, which received the other first-place vote, at 31 points, Texas (24 points), Oklahoma State (23 points), Kansas (12 points), Iowa State (11 points) and Texas Tech (10 points). u The Sooners went 17-1 in conference play in 2017, including a 10-0 mark on the road. 2017 s record matched 2016 s mark for Oklahoma s best conference finish in program history. u OU has finished first in the Big 12 over the past six seasons with a combined record of 98-13. Prior to OU s current run of six straight regular season titles, no team had ever won more than two consecutive titles. u Overall, the Sooners have 15 Big 12 titles with 10 regular season crowns and five Big 12 tournament championships, all under current OU head coach Patty Gasso. OU claimed the 2017 Big 12 tournament, which was held for the first time since 2010. u Returning first-team All-Big 12 selections are Shay Knighten, Paige Lowary, Nicole Mendes (unanimous pick) and Paige Parker. Alo registered the Sooners only hit of the game in the fourth inning. u Oklahoma bounced back with a pair of wins at RV/RV Oregon State on Friday and Saturday. 2016 2018 OKLAHOMA SOFTBALL 10 3 Having recently completed her 23rd season at the University of Oklahoma, NFCA Hall of Fame head coach Patty Gasso has molded the OU softball program into a national power and permanently placed herself among the elite college softball coaches in the country. Oklahoma has won four national championships, winning in 2000, 2013, 2016 and 2017. OU is one of just three programs in NCAA history to win more than two national titles. She s reached the Women s College World Series 11 times during her tenure, and in the process, advanced to the postseason in each of her 23 seasons. With 27 seasons as a head coach to her name, Gasso has a career collegiate coaching record of 1,343-383-3 (.774) and holds an overall record of 1,181-324-2 (.781) at the University of Oklahoma. Needing only 1,300 games to get there, Gasso became the second fastest to reach 1,000 wins in NCAA Division I history during the 2015 season. She has won more Big 12 games (316-85) than any coach in the league s history and has twice as many wins as any other coach in OU history. Gasso s Sooner teams have finished second or higher 18 different times since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996. They have won over 78 percent of their Big 12 contests, and OU has claimed 10 Big 12 regular season and five championship titles under her direction.
