32084Nwea67 2.331* LEBEL 010 Assessment Report by the Canadian Nickel Co. Ltd. Magnetometer Survey Larder Lake Mining Division Lebel Tovnship, Ontario Claims L-531657 L-531658 L-531111 Map No.: M-359, NTS No. 32-D-UW MAY 2 81980 MINING LANDS SECTION These claims were staked on June 1st, 1979 and are held by the Canadian Nickel Company Ltd., Hwy. 17W, Copper Cliff, Ontario, POM 1NO. Location The group of 3 claims is located north of Highway 66 between the towns of Larder Lake and Kirkland Lake just west of Mud Lake and north of the settlement of King Kirkland. ' History and Geology The mining claims had been part of the Lebel Oro Gold Mine property. Except for some trenching little work has been reported from the claims. Volcanoclastics and sediments have been found on the property. Most of the Precambrian rocks which are covered by overburden must be part of the potentially important Kirkland Lake gold horizon. The old claims came open on June 1st, 1979- This magnetic survey was performed on October 31, 1979. Objective of the Survey, The purpose of the magnetometer survey was to outline geological features which are covered to 95^ by overburden. These features can be found if they contain rocks associated with magnetite which distorts the otherwise uniform earth magnetic field. With the results one can trace the lithological units of various amounts of magnetite content. The instrument used was a Scintrex MF-1 fluxgate magnetometer which measures the vertical component of the earth magnetic field. The strength of this component is measured in gammas over a range of ^ 100,000 gammas in several sensitivity ranges. Normally the background is set at 1500 gammas to allow that most reading can be taken on the O to 3000 gamma scale. The instrument is calibrated in gammas and has an accuracy of 25 gammas and a scale constant of 50 gammas per scale divisions in the O to 3000 gamma range.
- 2 - Survey Procedure A base line was established and perpendicular cross lines were cut every 1*00 feet along it. These picketed-lines have stations at 100 foot intervals. Magnetic base stations were established along the base line. The magnetic readings vere taken at 50 foot intervals, tied in to the base stations and corrected for diurnal variations. Plotting^ Procedure A magnetic contour map was produced from the corrected readings. The scale of the map is 1:21*00 (l inch equals 200 feet). The. contour interval is.200 gammas with the heavy line indicating the 1000 gamma contours. Statistics Baseline - cut and chained Crosslines, cut and chained.59 line miles 2.73 line miles Number of readings taken 2p6 Conclusion The survey outlined a WNW trending magnetic anomaly caused by narrow bands of magnetite concentration in a sedimentary Precambrian rock. This may represent an iron formation straddling the northern edge of the property. Local anomalies on the most easterly and westerly lines reflect more disseminated magnetite possibly in volcanic rocks. The magnetic anomalies indicate that the overburden is less than 50 feet deep../ ( E. K. Berrer, M. Se. Staff Geophysicist Copper Cliff, Ontario EKB/mm
