Here s how the list stacks up: SUN BELT CONFERENCE ACTIVE LEADERS: CAREER HITS Rk Name School Total hits 1. Joey Roach Georgia State 174 2. Darien McLemore UT Arlington 171 3. Austin Baker Arkansas State 168 4. Cole Billingsley South Alabama 165 5. Matt Burgess Arkansas State 155 JACOB S LADDER: Senior reliever Jacob Moreland has been a mainstay in the UTA bullpen in his four years with the Mavs, and his career totals are beginning to add up. Already this year he has made 15 appearances, giving him 76 for his career. He currently ranks seventh all-time at UTA and needs one more to tie Pierce Loveless for sixth all-time. If he sticks to his current pace, he could move as high as second place by the end of the year. PICKING UP THE PACE: The UTA offense has been significantly improved from an uncharacteristic 2015 season. Now just past the midway point of the regular season with 29 games under their belt, the Mavs are well past last year s numbers at this point a year ago. Here s a comparison through 29 games of UTA s 2016 and 2015 offenses: YEAR Batting Avg. Slug. Pct. He struck out 45 hitters in 83.1 innings with a 3.55 ERA as a sophomore, but put himself on the national radar after a breakout summer as part of the Liberal Bee Jays in the Jayhawk League. There he pitched primarily out of the bullpen, notching a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in 8 appearances with 3 saves and 20 strikeouts. Following his stint in Liberal, he was named the Jayhawk League s top prospect by both Baseball America and Perfect Game. So far this season he is 3-2 with a 1.97 ERA. HAVING A GRAND TIME: It has been nothing uncommon for junior Jerame Littell to find himself at the plate with the bases loaded as it s already happened five times this year, the second most on the UTA roster. Littell has also taken full advantage of those situations, driving in 11 of his 17 runs on the year in bases-loaded scenarios. Most recently he delivered a go-ahead, three-run double with two outs in the top of the 10th in an 18-16 win over Georgia State on Saturday, helping UTA complete a comeback from a once 11-1 deficit. But he has also cashed in on his two homers for the year with both being grand slams. He is the first UTA hitter with multiple grand slams in a single year since 2009. WEEKENDS AT CLAY GOULD: The Mavs have played three weekend series at Clay Gould Ballpark this season, winning at least two of three in each of them. Dating back to last season, UTA has won its last six home weekend series since being swept by Georgia State midway through the conference slate in 2015. That is the the most consecutive series wins at home since UTA won seven straight series at Clay Gould Ballpark from the end of the 2012 season and into the 2013 campaign. RULE OF 2/3: So far this season the Mavericks have held a lead after six innings of play, and all 15 times the Mavs have managed to come away with the victory. On the other hand, UTA is only 1-12 when trailing after six innnings of play. That lone win came on Saturday in Game 2 against Georgia State when the Mavs managed to score four times in the top of the ninth and force extra innings before wining 18-16 in 10 frames. HIT EM WHEN THEY RE UP, HIT EM WHEN THEY RE DOWN: UTA set numerous team and conference highs in its 18-16 win over Georgia State on Saturday, including pounding out 22 hits, the most by a SBC team this year and the most by the Mavs since they had 22 hits in a 13-3 win over McNeese State on April 17, 2010. That mark was just four hits shy of the school record of 26.
