Determining the PL r For each selected safety function it is first necessary to determine the required performance level (PL r ) and to compare it with the performance level (PL) achieved by the Mayser sensor. The PL r of the safety function must correspond at least to the PL. Determining the sensor = B 10D 0.1 n op Example 1: Safety mat in front of processing centre with 30-second cycle in 3-shift operation, 250 days per year. n op = 120 actuations/h x 24 h/day x 250 days = 720,000 actuations per year = B 10D / (0.1 x n op ) = 6,000,000 / (0.1 x 720,000) = 83.3 years => Example 2: NC safety edge on sliding gate with 2 actuations per day (morning and evening), 365 days per year. n op = 2 actuations/day x 365 days = 730 actuations per year = B 10D / (0.1 x n op ) = 2,000,000 / (0.1 x 730) = 27,397.3 years => Determining the overall 1 1 1 = + SG sensor Example 3: As in example 1; Safety mat SM connected to SG-EFS 1X4 ZK2/1. SG = 313 years SM = 83 years 1 1 1 = + 313 years 83 years = 65 years => 4/6 Consensus with ISO 13849-1
The same example with exclusion of error according to ISO 13849-2 Table D.8: Non-closing of contacts in the case of pressure-sensitive equipment according to ISO 13856. In this case the value of the sensor is no longer taken into account for the overall system. 1 1 = SG Example 4: As in example 3; Safety mat SM connected to SG EFS 1X4 ZK2/1. SG = 313 years 1 1 = 313 years = 313 years => In this case, the maximum performance level of the overall system can reach PL d. table Designation Zone low medium 3 years < < 10 years 10 years < 30 years 30 years < 100 years table Designation Zone none < 60 % low 60 % < 90 % medium 90 % < 99 % 99 % Consensus with ISO 13849-1 5/6
Determining the PL If the categories, and are known, the performance level (PL) can be determined based on the table. The table shows a simplified procedure for assessment and is used in the first step for estimating the PL.
