Welcome to Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CMAS) China Meteorology Administration (CMA)
China Central Government CMA CAMS Province -MAs branches of CMA. Institute -CAWAS CMA-GAW sites Total O 3 GHSs Aerosol.. Reactive Gas Solar radiation We are here
China total ozone work started in 1930s.. CMA total ozone work since the end of 1980s.. Since 2008, Satellite FY-3 CMA provides global distribution of stratospheric O 3
First: A quick history of ozone cross sections ( 引自 :Gordon Labow 2009, 12 th Brewer workshop) A. Cornu (1879) Measures solar spectra in the UV in Tenerife and wonders why there is no light below 300nm. Must be something in the atmosphere. W.N. Hartley (1880) Figures out that ozone was the source. E. Meyer (1903) First measurements of ozone absorption (cross sections) in the lab. W. Huggins (1904) Looks at spectra from the star Sirius and sees A. Lauchli (1928) Pure ozone in a tube measure decay Ny and Choong (1933) nm-China Inn & Tanaka (1953) Used liquid ozone Vigroux (1953 & 1967) Bass & Paur (1985) Brion, Malacet, Daumont (1992,1995,1998)

Distribution of Brewers in the Map including China #076 #197 traveling standard #054 #177 #077 #198 #115 (HK) #023 #129 #061 (TW) Brewer #074,#193 was deployed at China Zhongshan Station, Antarctica respectively since 1993 and 2008
Points of Brewers in the mainland of China In 1990, the first Brewer#054 was provided by the AES-MSC/Canada through WMO-GEF Project, for Mt.WLG, Global GAW Site; 1992 Brewer#76, #077 respectively deployed at LFS,and LN 1993,MKIV Brewer#074 was deployed at Zhongshan, Antarctic; 1999, normally calibration by #017 was carried every two years for Brewers #076 and #077 were added the UVB dome measurements 2007, MKIV Brewer#177 was ordered for routine observations in Lhasa, Tibet; 1000W UVB calibration system was also established in this year. 2008,Brewer#193 was ordered for replacing Brewer#074; 2008 CMA supported to order a MKIII Brewer for the traveling standard of CMA Brewers. 2009,Yunnan University order MKIII Brewer#198,for gradually replacing Dobson #003 for the routine observation in Kun Ming.
Calibration histories of Brewers Difference percentage from standard # Before calibration After Calibration Should added calibration results in 2008 and 2010 Difference percentage from standard #017 Difference percentage from standard # Before calibration After Calibration Before calibration After Calibration
Brewer operation mode in China The CMA-GAW site : routine observations Institute-CAWAS: technological support, spare component, calibrations, and feedback of observation data quality; Calibration: 1-time/year by #197 ;1 time/ two years by IOS.
Data management Raw Data: Observational Site and CAWAS. O3Brew.exe was applied for the in-situ operators, and for submitting data to WOUDC. Total ozone is re-calculated on the basis of SL tests and calibrations.
Lessons of CMA Brewers Aging of NiSO 4 filters in the early years; Grating scratches in #077(before 2000);and in #076 from 2000 to 2006; decreasing the sensitivities of instrument at high SZA; High temperature and humidity condition provide a continuous negative influence on Brewer#077; Shortage of experienced operators in the remote GAW sites.
Further works of CMA Brewers QA/QC urgently needs for UV scans. Re-assessment of #077 observations since 2006; The source of standard of #197. The source of 1000W standard lamp for Spectral UV.
Let s s go back to the current workshop.
